The Pittsburgh Steelers just struck a deal with free agent linebacker Myles Jack, and it looks like there will be a corresponding move.

The addition of Myles Jack means the Steelers will release Joe Schobert, who was scheduled to count $9.7 million against the salary cap in 2022.

Schobert came over during the middle of training camp last season in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Releasing Schobert will save the Steelers 7.8 million now, or over 9 million with a post June 1st designation on his release.

Schobert had never lived up to the hype of his big contract from the Jaguars after leaving Cleveland.

Yeah! Sorry Joe, we hardly knew ya! Good move again Steelers, with Banner and Shoebert gone that’s what about 13 million more in cap relief? That cap savings added in to what we have left should be enough to sign The Honey Badger, possibly bring in a good CB. Then extend Minkah and push out some of TJ’s money.
Would set us up very nicely for the draft. Very nicely. Then there is the Tuitt cap hit! What to do there?

Keep Tuitt if there is any chance of a good return.

He was one of the guys with a large cap savings to cut outright and he wasn’t the player they wanted … typically its best to give the guys that were really good before a second year, but it was a lot of savings and they still apparently have hope that shrub isnt a scrub…

Yeah the thought of Sutton, Wallace, & Pierre doesn’t get me excited. Maybe Haden returns? Gilmore is a dream but maybe Jackrabbit or Hayward from the Raiders?
Or Donte Jackson. Very interested in what they do there. We know SS needs addressed too.

Seemed like a good trade at the time, just didn't pan out. The Jags actually paid him more than the Steelers did last year, so the experiment wasn't too costly.
