REPORT - Steelers Have Been Ignoring Byron Leftwich's Calls About Being An Offensive Consultant

Think of it like this…..

Your house is painted neon pink with giant lime green polka dots on it and your yard is all dark purple astro turf with a bright yellow picket fence….
Now everyone is like…dude, that is ugly as ****. You absolutely must repaint that house and plant a normal yard… but you like the house the way it is… you think it’s awesome…

After a few years you decide to repaint it, but you basically use the same scheme with slightly different colors..

The Canada offense is as ugly as the Fitchner Offense… but Tomlin sees it as a low turnover, ball control offense… after all it was either the best or second best in plays per drive last year..

Its just deficient in those trivial things like yards and points, and actual TOP…

I mean as long as we score a few defensive Tds per game we are rock solid…

no but it might not make it better. I just haven't heard good things about him as a coach.
Option A will not get this team to a playoff win, option B might not make it better.

Which one do you like now?

Eh, Cowher could have stuck around longer if he wanted to and his coaching record was similar to Tomlin's too.
The "Rooney Way" and all that.

And I hate to admit it, but a lot of fans wanted Cowher fired as well. Couldn't get to the big dance until finally he did.

Other similarities:
Cowher loses a SB to Dallas...thanks to Neil O'Donnell's int's.
Tomlin loses a SB to Green Bay...thanks to Mendenhall's fumble, (not to mention our elite QB missing a wide open Wallace....which I just did.)

It’s odd how Tomlin receives all this love from the main stream media but a coach like Mike McCarthy who has a similar coaching record with the Packers has already been fired. And with the Cowboys has had as much if not more success than Tomlin and most likely will get booted again.
Very strange that Tomlin can be so shielded and insulated after mediocre results. Very odd!
Cuz Mike is Cool Shades.

He would be an improvement over Canada but so would a literal rock. I want someone new and innovating not someone who rode Marcia's coattails. My cousin at PFF says he is not well regarded for the position. There is a reason he doesn't have job currently and is begging for one.
Matt Canada currently has a job. What's the reason for that?

Maybe your cousin at PFF knows.

He's been holding out for the Steelers.

While some of the articles being written by SN bloggers are informative and interesting, really think Parker and the rest should shy away from anything coming from the Athletic. While Karboly has been around for a few years, and is a diligent Steelers beat writer, the fact that The Athletic publisher allowed Trevor Bauer to be hung out to dry (for the sexual assault charge which has been shown to be a hoax) is concerning. Probably why that publisher is flailing at this time.

As for Leftwich, anything would be better than Canada….right now. Fire him and let someone else use the existing playbook. Byron wouldn’t be as predictable at least.

If this is even remotely true... I'm going to break something else this week!!!

😡😡😡😡😡😡

Make sure it’s empty before you do—————

If true, get ready for Tomlin to have Canaduh back after this season. The only way he won't is if Rooney steps in.
^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^

As true as it gets

Hey, I'll admit I was one of those guys who was extremely frustrated with Cowher too. I was like this guy just won't change his approach in big games and maybe he needs to go.He didn't see the light until he got Ben.

But when I look back at it the man got them to 6 AFCCG in his tenure. The 2004 loss I can't hang on him because the pats***** cheated the **** out of them. I won't even head down that road with those clowns.

That's building a hell of a team with solid leadership on the field with guys who held each other to the highest standards.

He left Tomlin with a built championship level team. Which in his first 5 years as coach he made the most of.

They have progressively gone down hill and haven't held that standard. Now we can't even get good coaches on staff. I won't even pretend to know the inner workings of that. It isn't successful and needs to change.

The record for over a decade speaks for itself. The playoffs have been an abysmal showing of being outplayed and outcoached. They're stuck with an OC who has saddled them with an offense a 6 year old would develop.

The defense is 100% reliant on a pass rush from the edge for its success. The better teams with a good OL will neutralize it through blocking schemes or getting the ball out quick. The Texans are the most recent example of that.

Those zones with huge cushions fail big time when you can't tackle for ****. Even then, when you have wideouts at this level running free, one little move and the little play turns into a big play.

I keep waiting each year to see changes that say man we are committed to reaching that next level. To start banging on that door to the superbowl again.

I'd certainly take losing in the AFCCG to a plethora of middle of the pack seasons. Nobody really gives a crap about non losing seasons.

Watching Matt Canada's putrid play calling makes me long for the days of Joe Walton. I didn't think anyone could ever be worse than he was, but here we are. I'd rather have Joe, and he's dead.

I suspect watching Canada's offense killed him. It's damn near doing the same to me.

Good stuff.
I've also had taken on a different view.
But in the opposite way. I was never on the "fire Cowher" bandwagon. I always gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Likewise, I was never on the "fire Tomlin" bandwagon, always giving him the benefit of the doubt....until recently. The state of this team in unacceptable.

Someone here said it best...this team dropped a notch every time a Cowher player retired.

I take option C. Promote the QB coach to play caller, give Canada some extra crayons to play with in the corner and do a real search in the off season.

Still better than doing nothing 👍.

That's where you'd be wrong....It runs wide and deep, although it seems to be diminishing with each passing year. For the last 5 or 6 years, I'd be pissed because we lost a sure-fire win against an inferior team and a fellow Steeler fan would respond straight to my face with the usual "yeah buts." Personally, like you, I'm tired of it.

You're right. I suppose a lot of fans are content with much much less.

Statistically, Walton was still actually worse than Duh.

Statistically Walton was worse than Duh but he had arguably less talent to work with.
Gilbride and Sherman would be an improvement though.

Where did Leftwich have all of this success that people think he's the guy? Settling for the guy familiar with the team is how they got Fichtner and Canada.

Let's not overthink this. Apparently the Shanahan offense is unstoppable. Versions of it have been around for decades and it still works. Interview every #2 guy in a Shanahan based system then hire the best one.

Tomlin is known for his dumpster dives for assistant coaches.

My take is to bring Leftwich aboard if all efforts in finding a qualified OC have been exhausted.

It can't possibly get any worse, so give it a shot.

Technically Leftwich is a dumpster dive… fired by two orgs… doesn’t mean he won’t be a success, and in season , he would make some sense, but we probably need an offensive minded ex head coach here… thats the ideal get in the off-season
