It appears as that even though the Pittsburgh Steelers declined safety Terrell Edmund’s 5th year option last offseason, the team is still interested in re-signing him. If they are unable to re-sign the former first round pick, their backup plan could be Edmund’s 2018 NFL Draft comrade Jordan Whitehead, at least according to 93.7 The Fan‘s Andrew Fillipponi.
Edmunds has been criticized mightily at times over his 4 seasons with the Steelers, but during his time in Pittsburgh he has continued to develop into a solid starting safety paired next to Minkah Fitzpatrick. With Fitzpatrick expected to become one of the highest paid safeties in the league, getting Edmunds on a cap friendly deal would be wise. It isn’t believed that Edmunds will have a lot of suitors on the open market, so getting him back could happen even if he hits the open market.
However, if Edmunds is unable to be retained by the team, Whitehead is a very intriguing option assuming Fillipponi’s report is correct. Whitehead is a Pittsburgh native that attended Aliquippa High School and University of Pittsburgh before playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ after they took him in the 4th round four seasons ago. Bringing Whitehead back to Pittsburgh is something that Steeler Nation would be happy with.
Let us know what you think about the Steelers desire to re-sign Edmunds, or going after Whitehead as a plan B.

Source: Steelers will make an effort to re-sign Terrell Edmunds. If he goes to market next week, look for the Steelers to make a play for former Pitt safety Jordan Whitehead.
