It’s been suggested for a while that the Pittsburgh Steelers may attempt to trade up in the Draft for the first time since 2019. Today a rumor dropped from our friends over at UStadium.

According to their report the Steelers are one of two teams that have ‘laid the ground work’ for a potential draft day trade up into the top 12.

Teams to watch trading up/down: Saints and Steelers have called and laid the groundwork for a draft day trade. Watch the Giants (7) and Vikings (12) as trade down options.

Now we’ve worked with UStadium in the past, and they do have some insider knowledge. So this can’t be completely discredited, but it’s from a source that isn’t well known yet. The Steelers and Giants share family ties as the Rooney’s and the Mara’s are related. So the connection could be there for a trade.

Would the Steelers be trading up for a quarterback, or could they shock everyone and go get Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. Hamilton would fill the immediate need that the Steelers have at safety and could start day one. The report that they tried to sign 34-year old veteran safety Kareem Jackson tends to lead me to believe that they were looking to have him in play to work with a rookie safety. To mentor whoever they end up drafting.

Hamilton ran bad at his Pro Day at the end of March and has slipped down some draft boards. But at one time he was considered a top 3 pick.

If they’re going up to get a quarterback their likely target would be Malik Willis. He or Kenny Pickett will likely be the first quarterback off the board, and the Carolina Panthers at pick #6 are apparently in love with Pickett.

The only issue that could be a problem with trading up is that the Steelers don’t have a lot of draft capital to begin with, and they have a lot of needs.

stupidest ******* thing we could do in this draft, other than take a RB, punter or long snapper in the first round.

which, of course, means that's precisely what we'll do.

There is no reason to burn draft capital to trade up for any player with the exception of the DAVIS kid DL.

There will be plenty deep talent at 1.20, deep enough to actually get a starter Worthey player in S / WR / DL / OL. Not in order but there will be at least one player there of the 4- need positions that are starter quality.

Salute the nation

The only trade up in this draft I’d be happy with is with Carolina to go up and get pick 6…for Mason Rudolph hahaha…then we snag Davis! Dream come true

Aside from some asinine situation of us robbing someone blind trade situation let’s just stay put and take BPA at 20. A quality player will be there waiting for us

Yikes, this board is going to have a "Dri Archer" meltdown when the Steelers take a QB. Reading the tea leaves should've prepared y'all by now, but denial is a powerful mentality

I wouldn't even trade up that high to get Davis. that would mean we probs give up our 1st and 2nd at the least.

I guess it depends on how far up and what they would have to give up for what player. Hamilton intrigues me. If he fell to say the pick before the rats it might be very tempting.

Hamilton may be the best prospect in the draft, I'd just have a hard time trading up for a safety. Not one of the premium positions in the league right now.

Would love to see their draft board this year. I know a lot has been said about this QB class being really weak but I don’t necessarily think that is true. Hard to predict then sure but I think some gems can be found. It’s hard because so many QB’s in this class have been inconsistent and nobody who has set the world on fire so it’s really hard to say any one QB is going to be the next great one. I remember just a couple years ago everyone was saying “Tank for Tua” and how he was going to be the next great one but he’s looked mediocre up to this point. I will say if Colbert traded up to draft a QB in the 1st I would only hope that he’s done enough homework on someone that warrants such a move and will trust him with whoever they pick. I do not think they trade up for any other position outside of QB. They have put too much emphasis on the position to just sit back and wait for someone to fall to them.

Lord Jesus, I hope you're wrong.

Has Dri Archer been brought in yet for a QB visit? He was never used properly…would look great in a tiny little bit of black and gold.

Yeah but the free agent S options are dwindling. Plus an upgrade over Edmunds is very intriguing. Last time they traded up for a SS it went well.😁

We absolutely do not need a QB in the first round this year. Let’s continue to build on what we did in FA and add more pieces in this draft. Either stay at 20 or move back and pick up an extra pick. We can add talent at DL, WR, CB, OL if we do this smartly. Please don’t panic and overreach for a player like in past years. Let’s find out if Mitch is our guy and if not we draft our QB next year.

IF we were to trade up, and we took a QB, I may slice my wrists AND jump out of my work building.

IF we were to trade up, and we took Hamilton, I would need to know what we gave up. Hamilton is pretty special and one of the BPAs in this entire draft, not to mention, a position of need.
Do we need D-Line more? Maybe/Probably. A lot depends on Tuitt. We definitely need youth infusion.

I just wouldn’t be as suicidal if we traded up and took a player other than QB, like S, DL, OL, WR, ILB.
But a 1st round QB? Nopes.
