Does he not know how to climb a pocket. I have really been paying attention to this the last few weeks, It's like he refuses to climb the pocket. Ben use to be a master of this, climb the pocket and go downfield. He doesn't seem to be seeing the field and there seems to be no clock in his head. some of these sacks he is taking are inexcusable.

I agree with what someone said earlier. he seems to be turning into the Denver Russel Wilson

Mahomes was climbing the pocket all day. Toward the end, he was just getting the ball out quickly on 5-10 yard slants, crossing patterns, and outs. Take what the defense gives you. Russ seemed to be standing i the pocket for days waiting on plays to develop. I hasve my doubts about bringing him back.

Everything Fields did that people bitched about....now Russ is doing. Mind boggling. Russ is the SB Vet. Not some young guy. Hopefully next week he does better.

Don't think those type of plays are in our playbook. Going on 5 plus years now.

This Oline is bad he doesn’t stand a chance
Recognize the lie is bad and get the ball out quicker, but not on these WR screens and other such garbage developing behind the line of scrimmage

The scheme is hindering us on offense.

Russ has his flaws, but I think the right team could still contend with him, but I'm not sure the Steelers are it in terms of supporting cast and coaching.

I'm definitely more conflicted about re-signing him than I was a few weeks ago.

He can still make the necessary reads and throws and has enough mobility, but there is no guarantee that will be the case another year from now given his age

.....and defense. That trash they're playing has to go. There's absolutely no way on God's green earth that defensive scheme will ever make championship level. I don't care who you draft.

Then you have the lack of discipline and they suck at the fundamentals, like tackling.

Hell, i watch them every game waiting for the ball carrier to reach them, then they give some bullshit effort in tackling.

Gotta disagree with this one. just in the second half today he didn't see a wide open Pickens streaking down the side line, instead he threw into coverage, then he didn't see a wide open Muth in the endzone and he threw the ball out of bounds. These were the very plays Ben mad a living on. when all hell was breaking loose he found those open guys.

For a guy that gets touted for how great he is I think he absolutely sucks at reading the field right now. If it has to do with the oline play, because he does seem to be getting happy feet, then put Fields back in. what are you afraid of? losing number 4 in a row. hell that **** is gonna happen anyway.

This make me sick to say but we have two games left counting playoffs, I have the utmost confidence that we will lose two more in a row bringing is to a magnificent five loses in the last five games. same damn meltdown we seem to have every year. But hey we still got that non losing season thing going for us.

Yeah, our defense is pretty porous. I've never understood the claim that we have an elite defense. Teams seem to be able to move the ball on us at will.

I don't know that he is doing that worse than Ben (other than the fumbles). The area where Ben excelled though was in 4th quarter comebacks. I'd have more confidence in Ben's ability to brig us back.

I had written a post similar this, deleted it, wrote again and deleted again. Did not want to seem like I was dumping on Russ because of Fields’ tOSU past. (I also questioned how much of what I thought I saw was through Scarlet colored glasses).

But, since someone else brought it up … INTs, fumbles, near fumble sacks, sacks from holding on to the ball too long, under/overthrown balls… it seems like maybe Russ is mentally and physically wearing down the longer he plays.

Contrary to what Tomlin says outside of Pickens and Freirmuth we have crap at wide receiver. The failure to address that and thinking we were going to skate by with this W.R. bunch is criminal. Or is it just how the Steelers operate as of late: just good enough to fill the seats, and never good enough to be a serious contender?

Russ isn't as tall as Ben, so he's not going to see everything that Ben was able to.

One has to be careful about criticizing QBs for not seeing receivers that appear open on TV. We don't know the progressions and the QBs vantage point is different on the field, especially when the blocking is breaking down.

Even Ben appeared to miss wide open receivers at times, as I recall Antonio Brown throwing a water cooler in a tantrum over it years ago.

Saying that, Russ has definitely regressed in recent weeks, though the team around him and the play calling hasn't been doing him any favors, IMO.

Had Washington not been flagged for holding on that TD run, the narrative about the performance of Russ and the offense today might have been a bit different.

Nah..he's just trying to do too much knowing we have caca to get open and catch the ball outside of Pickens. Defending them is easy when Williams is in there and the ball is coming to him it's either going to be a go route, or a go route, and if they are really adventurous... a go route. And that's because he's a one trick pony. The defense is blowing chunks anyway, the running game/o-line can't be leaned on.

That pick in the end zone was desperation, looked like a Big Ben special when he would get desperate. I was hoping this was the year we went far in spite of Tomlin, but oh well any real belief for me will start again the day his replacement steps up to the podium. If I live that long....LOL. Just enjoy whatever wins we get and don't expect too much, do it for your health.

I don't get pissed anymore..not worth it.

Ironically, Pickett had the same issue, he’d spin and retreat backwards to buy time. Russ is 5’10” I can understand why he doesn’t want to step up when there’s 2 to 6 6’3+” OL in front of him.

Who is going to run the digs, slants, curls, crossers? Williams...Van Jefferson...LOL.... THE RECEIVERS NOT NAMED PICKENS or MUTH SUCK....do not believe what Tomlin spouts about them..THEY SUCK. The only one who could possibly get open on those routes is CA3 but he's tiny and has a limited ball placement range. Get a linebacker or safety close to him and he disappears. Not addressing this glaring weakness is now showing up UGLY.

The inability to adequately replace DJ was a major failure, though that goes more on Khan than Tomlin.

They just lack a lot at WR right now, as even Pickens, for as talented and dynamic as he is, is still inconsistent with his route running and isn't yet a great separation player.

I like Austin, but his height probably precludes him from being anything more than a #3. You just don't see many standout receiving games from 5'8 WRs. Tyreek Hill is a very unique player, and I tend to doubt Austin will ever be close to that level.

Jefferson and Williams are just guys in the league at this point.

The O-Line is alot better than some of the O-Lines Ben had for example 2008 through 2012. Ben won a SuperBowl with one of the biggest Patchwork O-lines in NFL History!

If you look at the sacks Ben took total for those 5 seasons he averaged about 50 sacks a season!
