Russel Wilson

I have never played QB but am willing to give it a shot. Heart. Heart.
1 mill per year. Plus incentives. As in free BACON in the off season

It's not as easy as it looks.

The three times I wore #7 and subbed in so as not to let anyone know BEN was out, opened my eyes a lot.

It sucks waiting in the blue tent the whole game hoping BEN shows up...............

Salute the nation

I was at the game. 3rd row. Different perspective.

Russ ain't it. I got feedback weeks ago for saying Russ ain't it. Was told Russ passes the eye test. :ROFLMAO:

LOL.

Russ is turning the ball over way too much and taking way too many sacks. His turnovers this week and last killed us. He is NOT seeing the field. He is a one-trick pony - he throws a pretty, deep moon ball.

Father Time has knocked on his door. He is not our future. Why we are not investing in developing what could be a QB is beyond me. And Justin will likely walk and take an offer elsewhere now.

We entered the toughest part of the season, Russ got worse. "Oooh he was so great against CIN." Spare me. Russ beat the Jets, Giants, Commanders, BAL, Cincy and Cleveland. Two decent wins and a loss to CLE. But he went 0-3 in a stretch where we needed at least one win against a legit team. Against real, playoff-worthy opponents. He had his worst showings.

You can see his QBR regressed. His sacks increased. 3 straight losses.

He has 15 TDs, 5 picks and TWENTY NINE sacks. He's fumbled the ball 5 times, lost 4. The 4 lost fumbles cost us dearly each time.

Yes there is far more to these wins and losses than just the QB. The D isn't what people purport it is. Tomlin has handcuffed yet another Offensive Coordinator. Play calling is abysmal.

Russ has had enough chances to shine. He needed to step up in one of the last 3 games.

He ain't it.

Im paying darnold if im Kahn

up front I agree.
But.....Darnold is surrounded by great talent and a great scheme. Neither seem to be the case here.
Put him here and no way you see the same results as he's had in Minnesota.
Now if the Steelers surround him with a better offense, then hell yeah you sign him. I still hate the Artie Smith hire. They had a chance to really move the needle offensively but blew it IMO. Still you have to consider it if Darnold hits FA

The best thing that could happen is for Russ to play abysmolly vs. Cincy, CONlin pull the plug for good, go back to Fields and tell Fields you are going to develop him.

We aren't going anywhere with Russ. I'd rather see Fields lose the first game of the playoffs. Maybe even 2 games if we get Houston and get past them. We are NOT getting a good young QB anytime soon with our draft position and Veteran QB's is not the way to go.

I'll puke if they draft Ewers.

This post belongs in the fantasy football forum.

I'm done with the Russ Wilson experiement. He started off with a few good games but he has had more bad games than good and hasn't had a good game in a month. The guy is 37 years old so only a fool thinks he will get better in time.

I'd like to see them go back to Fields and just give him some time to develop. He has all the physical tools and at only 26 has time to grow. Russ is only going to get worse as he ages. Otherwise, let them both go and start over?

I don't bring Russ back unless it is widely known that he will be a backup.

Well Russ just turned 36 in November and I believe Justin is 25 turning 26 in the spring.
I’d probably go the youth movement and resign Justin and surround him with quality skill players, namely WRs.
Next, you have to shore up the OL which has been bad the last month.
Move on from Najee and draft a quality RB to pair with Jaylan who I resign.
Better start moving some of these high priced defensive players. Results don’t justify the payroll here.
At least move on from Terrell Austin and Pat Meyer. These are the weakest links.
Just some things I think I think.

I’m right there with you

I said going into this three game stretch he’d be lucky to win 1, and had to win at least 1 to prove he’s the least bit legit

People got overly excited about him beating the absolute tomato cans of the league NYJ and NYG and pointing up on one of the worst Ds in the league brought to you by Cincy.

He narrowly escaped the Rats on the back of 6 Bozwell FGs and lucked out to beat the Commandos

Fools Gold

This thread makes me laugh. Blaming a future HOF QB for losses when the OL, if not acting as turnstiles, are getting pushed back into him, and the defense is giving up 400 yards and 30 points/game. Maybe the issue is he’s trying to do too much because it’s the only way the Steelers are going to win.

No. He's done.

His HoF playing days are in his rear view mirror. He can't deliver when the opportunities are there.

One only need use their eyes to see this.

Pittsburgh hosts the Cincinnati Bengals, while the Ravens host the Cleveland Browns for their last game of the regular season in Week 18. Baltimore got off to somewhat of a slow start, but getting another MVP-caliber season out of Lamar Jackson has been all the difference in the Ravens' ability to overtake the Steelers in the division. The declining play of Russell Wilson of late has to be concerning.

Russell Wilson is playing his way off Pittsburgh Steelers down the stretch

Look. Even though Wlson's fading play is a cause for concern, he is still going to command more than what the Steelers could look to pay him in free agency. For him to be back, he would have to take somewhat of a hometown discount. Since Fields has been devalued from being an NFL starter, retaining him seems a bit more likely, especially since the Steelers gave up draft equity to land him.

^^^^^ i.e., why aren't we investing in the QB we likely retain? Tomlin-pride. Tomlin thought he had a chance at a title with Russ. This team ain't gonna, can't win a title this year.

What this all comes back to is the Steelers are 100 percent stuck in quarterback purgatory. They win too many games to be in a position to draft a good quarterback. They can try to win big in free agency or by way of a trade again, but those methods for building up one's team into being championship caliber are fleeting. After all, all of the Steelers' best players are homegrown talents.

The OL has been decimated with injuries. We lost 3 starters early but we did find out how good Frazier and McCormick are. Those 2 with Jones back at LT, Fautanu at RT, and probably Seumalo should make for a very good OL. Only Seumalo may be gone after next season unless they resign him. My guess is they will let him walk and bring in a younger guy.

He’s still the best option the Steelers have, he averages 50 more yards and 1TD per game more than Fields.

I think he's played his way down from a reasonable commitment to very little. Reality check though. What else are they getting and even if you like Fields upside which is questionable you probably burnt that bridge.
I've watched enough college football this season. I have not watched Oregon kid. But even if he has upside he won't be available in the 20s even if they could possibly get ******** Dion's kid no interest.

It seems like they have individuals playing well, but the collective unit isn’t.

I like Frazier and McCormick, but I think you're assuming a lot regarding Jones and Fautanu.

Jones in particular has to prove he will be better at LT than he's been at RT.

Russ just looks lost to me. As a veteran QB, you'd expect him to be able to make better decisions in the pocket. Is he just not good enough anymore, or is it a product of the scheme not having any chance of working against better teams? Probably a little bit of both. Really don't want to see him back in Pittsburgh next year at an inflated price. Please God, no.
All the pro-Russ supporters have gone silent of late. Everything they hated on Fields for they said Russ would do better. At the moment he is doing worse than Fields. QB play has killed us they the few weeks.

I actually thought if Russ would struggle it would have been early on. I bought into the hype. Reality has now set in. Is it all Russ' fought? Nope. His play has been well below the line though. I honestly don't know a QB out there that would shine in our offense. That in its self says it all.

It doesn't matter what qb is on this team. I'm fully convinced of that. They'll still run a stupid offense that doesn't make any sense and the defense will still fail in grand fashion.

If he wants 30 plus I really have no idea what I'd do. Maybe if it's a year to year thing easy out. Teams (particularly this one) refuse to say we aren't really competing this year. They either say that by drafting a guy and playing him which keeps the fan base hoping or they get a guy essentially like Russ.

The last 3 weeks exposes your comment to be bullshit. I'll take the legs and rushing TDs to go with the passing arm.

Justin didn't turn the ball over like Russ and he didn't take as many sacks. Gotta evaluate it all.

Truth, that's the ultimate problem - Tomlin. He handcuffs our OCs. Always has. It's why Ben would call his own plays so much, to break away from the garbage being called from the sideline.

As soon as better teams got some tape on DangeRuss as a Steeler, they were able to make him perform like DenveRuss, which is of no use to anyone.

Time to move forward.

I'd sign Fields (another offseason to progress) find a b/u like Rudy (yes, he'd be even better post Canada) and then take a raw prospect/athletic freak on day 3 of the draft and put him to work ASAP. I wonder if Malik Willis will be available....

And I'd find a WR2 to outwork Pickens every single day, hoping that talent that works hard would rub off on #14....
