Say what you want about Cowher

when cowher left, it was time for him to go and i was ok with him bowing out. truth be told, i wanted him gone. but honestly, it's not even close to the level of disgust that i have with this head coach. head coaches get too much blame when **** goes wrong and not necessarily enough credit when **** clicks. tomlin makes the same sophmoric mistakes today that he made years ago and is too arrogant to admit it.
**** coach epps

Nope now he is god and did no wrong.

The guy NOT responsible is always the BEST. Like the back uop QB, he is always better than the starter, UNTI he has to start...

Bill Cowher and Jerome Bettis were seen leaving Heinz Field at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Cowher was overheard saying to JB "MT will find a way to lose the game, he doesn't utilize his talent to their potential". Bettis nodded and responded: "Right Coach, let's eat"!
(I'm kidding)

Hillariously funny. Lots of truth in humor though..............................

Salute the nation

I will be glad when Tomlin's time here is finished...if not just for the reason not to see anymore Cowher vs Tomlin threads. Crazy. When Cowher was here there were times when everyone wanted him gone and he is some kind of immortal coaching god. Go figure.

But then we'll just be complaining about the new coach and talking about how he ain't no Tomlin an' at. [/yinzer]

In all fairness, its all we know. How many of us on here were even full grown folks when Cowher took over? Its not like we have a plethora of coaches to chitter chatter about lol.

Going back to the Cowher well, after so many years away is a fool's errand.

Anybody remember how he checked out after Ben's accident? Did anyone blame him from stepping down from the team when it was revealed his wife was fighting Cancer?

Cowher landed himself a great gig with CBS, and while he might have toyed with the idea of returning to the NFL, I think he's really enjoying his current position and has no intention of ever trying to coach again.

He kept the Steelers competitive through the 90's and 00's, but only succeeded in winning a Super Bowl when he had a franchise QB. At the same time, his coaching included several years of mediocrity when he didn't have a franchise QB.

This team goes only so far as Ben goes. I'm more worried about the Tomlin/Colbert combo in finding Ben's replacement than I am with the ups and downs of navigating the NFL season.

Just getting Kordell "worm burner" Stewart to an AFCC game should put him in the HOF.

******* Rooneys forcing Bill to play Stewart. Then forcing him to replace him with Kent Graham. Sadists

Not just one, but TWO AFCC games. Amazing really.

And he did tie coach Paul Brown in taking a team to the playoffs in his first 6 seasons as head coach. Cowher accomplished some good things in his tenure, so he certainly stands near the top of all coaches during that decade and a half.

Yea, Rooney didn't stand in front of the entire world and say "I want this to be remembered as the house Stewart built."... oh wait...

Stewart was a Pro Bowl selection in years 1997 and 2001 when they were in the AFCCG.

And what about Graham?

What arguement?? Like someone pointed out the years the Steelers went to the AFC championship Stewart was a pro bowl QB.

Pro Bowl appearances have less to do with a players performance that it does with their public perception.

I would tend to agree with you but Stewart's popularity in 97 was not what it was in 2001.

I would say the public perception of Stewart was that he wasn't that good, so I don't think he was selected by popularity. In those years he earned the selection. Now we can debate whether he was a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback or not, but he wasn't handed the accolades.

What? You were saying that Cowher wasn't forced to play Kordell... I correctly pointed out that Rooney wanted Cowher to play him. Hell he said he wanted Heinz field to be called the house that Kordell built. Then you moved to Kent Graham.. WHY? WTF does Graham have to do with Cowher playing Kordell YEARS before Graham every got to Pittsburgh? Cowher brought Graham in and then Maddox. So what? Kordell was sucking more so he brought them in. Rooney isn't so stupid that he is going to let one guy bring down the team. Especially since Kordell would still be on the team and competing for the job.

You are the one who wrote Cowher managed to get to two AFC championships games despite his QB. Someone else pointed out that those two years Stewart was A pro bowl QB. You tried to dismiss that by saying it was a popularity thing and not based on play. I bought up Graham because when Cowher tried to make a switch from Stewart he CHOSE Kent Graham. It's funny how that's ok. Kent ******* Graham. He didn't just bring him in he started him. And please stop the nonsense no one forced Cowher to do anything he loved Kordell Stewart. Their relationship didn't change until the game in Tampa Bay.

So tell me who you would have brought in? Give me a name. You keep bitching but somehow have never produced a name. Stewart had a few decent years but he was never going to win a SB with him because he wasn't a good QB. Cowher liked him, I understand that. But the owner liked him as well. Something you haven't come to terms with yet.
