Sean Spence gets clean bill of Health

Hard to tell about Timmons. It will depend on his skill set and how long he retains it. There is always a lot of discussion about Timmons but one thing he is is ready on game day.

.

Timmons is signed thru the 2016 season... correct? He is not going anywhere in the next three years. That would him at 31 years-old. Man, if Spence is really ready to play... that would be fantastic. He is still only 23. We would be in the best position at Inside LB that I can remember.

I'm one of Timmons bigger advocates but I think it would be a huge mistake to extend him again as he probably still will be young enough to ask for top $ in free agency

I was not advocating extending him, only commenting that his athletic skill set seems to be what keeps him here. His mental talents do not seem to be his strength as they are with some players. For example Farrior was able to play at a higher level than his physical ability should have allowed do to his mastery of the game and defense from a mental understanding of it. Timmons does not seem to have this talent and it maybe an interesting year with him calling the defense.

Of course this is football in shorts so this means absolutely nothing. Nevermind that this guy's career was declared over.

If this kid is as good as advertised and with Shazier, we have some depth at a position we sorely lacked last year. Great news for us

I still don't quite understand when he was "advertised" as being all that great. Even without the injury he was a questionable 3rd round pick with even worse measurables than Jarvis Jones.

I mean, I never wished an injury on the guy, but I never anointed him the future at ILB right after we drafted him either. That's going a bit extreme to me.

It would be great to have Timmons and Shazier start while having Spence back up both spots then trade Williams to the Cowboys for a 5th.

And I wonder what this means for Landry Jones. Any reports on how he looked so far? I think this is a make or break camp for him. If he shows improvement he probably stays on as #3 again and hopefully never dresses a game. If he doesn't I think they drop him put someone on the PS and ride Ben and Bruce for the season.

with the lack of depth at ILB the expectations grew high

I wouldn't mind drafting Spence's brother next year. His brother Noah Spence is a DE at Ohio State.

They're related?! One being from Miami and the other from Harrisburg, didn't think that was the case

Noah Spence is awesome, but we have Tuitt and Heyward. Next year will prob be focused on cb, safety, TE, OT.

Yeah, unless we can't get Heyward locked up or Tuitt is a total flop they don't look DE. I also doubt after drafting Thomas and signing Mitchell they look at safety early either. I would gather CB, OT, and then TE would be priorities unless someone steps up or unless Worilds and JJ flop at OLB then that would take precedent over said positions.

I suppose Spence had a better chance at catching that ball than DHB.

That is about as positive as I could make the thought of Mr. empty noggin calling the defense. I just wonder who will be telling him where to line up this year?

I also just thought of something along the lines of Timmons calling the defense this year. Maybe since he did not have to in past years he did not put forth the effort to learn it the way many of us thought he should. And with the idea that the role would be thrust onto him this year maybe he has put forth the effort and learned the entire thing this year. We can hope, right

Spence would play OLB in the 3-4. OLB will likely be the biggest need next year even if Jarvis has a breakout year. Worilds is likely gone next year no matter what.

They will need a starting OLB next year. If Jarvis is mediocre again, then they need a stud and better grab one very early. If Jarvis breaks out with 10 sacks, then they still need another pass rusher but they may be able to wait until later.

the only way OLB is not the top priority is if Worilds signs long term and has a great year, or if somebody like Carter or Moats or somebody else comes out of nowhere like James Harrison.
