Shaking my head at some of you

What last night showed me was that while Ben maybe a franchise level quarterback, he needs a solid running back to have success. In 2004, when he arrived on the scene, he had Bettis who was the ultimate complimentary back. We had reg season and playoff success and went to a Super Bowl. When Bettis retired, he had Willie Parker....still had playoff success...ended up in a Super Bowl....When Willie got hurt and ultimately cut, we relied upon a fresh Mendenhall....we had playoff success and ended up in a Super Bowl....the next set of seasons we had Isaac Redmon and Jonathan Dwyer and started one season with an injured rookie back in LeVeon....we ended up with subsequent 8-8 seasons. Having Bell emerge as an all pro diverse do it all back, we had success this season and qualified for a the postseason...once we lost Bell and Ben had to shoulder the load, we struggled.

A viable running threat/game greatly aids Ben.....Last night proved or shouldve proved to us all whom the real MVP of this franchise is.......we cant expect success if we have to rely on Ben alone. Bell is our most important asset. The league knows it, Ravens knew it.........why are WE still in the dark about it ?

I wonder how effective Bell would be with no threat of a passing game. The limb I'm on says not very. None of these guys play in a vacuum.

Theres just so much more Bell brings than just his running.....hes being called the more versatile back in the game this side of Marshall Faulk......Faulk was huge for Kurt Warner and that offense....he made em that much more dynamic. Bell does that for us........

No running back can succeed without a decent passing game...we know that..but when your offense becomes one dimensional and you dont feature a back that can pickup blitzers especially against a QB like Ben, whose game is predicated on extra time, then it becomes extremely difficult....and this, we saw Saturday night. Baltimore breathed a collective sigh when they learned Bell wasnt playing...it simplified things and they only had to rely on Brown and Bryant....Heath took himself out of the equation with his horrible play. So this played right into the Ravens hand.

yep and you need to look no farther than the failed Blount process as the culprit. Horrible decision making.............

Blount had to go. His teammates wanted him gone. He would have made a difference against the Ravens but who's to say keeping him doesnt cause chemistry issues along the way before we even get to the playoffs. Sucks Bell got hurt but keeping Blount wasnt an option when your teammates want you gone.

I dont see him making any difference against the Ravens we were not going to run on them..he cant catch...he would have been a none factor

Thats true too. No problem with that. He may have been able to help in the run game but still couldnt do all the things Bell can. Bell is looking like a very valuable piece going forward. The kid is a superstar. You dont just replace all the things he can do and not miss a beat. Maybe if Bryant and Wheaton were a little further along in their development we could have snuck by without Bell.

that decision wasn't wrong, but not replacing him with experience was

Who was out there? Tate was but he picked up but also he had similar issues as Blount. Only reason they did it this time was desperation. No one brought in was going to replace Bell anyway. You dont just replace him. He is too good for that.

I'm not arguing, but you aren't exactly saying anything enlightening. Bell is great, but he also benefits, just like Ben, and a lot of other players in the NFL, from playing alongside good/great players.

Reading the board is hard after a loss....but the name calling among ourselves makes us look like a bunch of whining vaginas.

Steelers have had horrific losses in the playoffs before.....it will happen again.

No we're not trading Ben, LeBeau will most likely retire when he wants and he's earned that, that goes for Troy and James Harrison.

Whether you like it or not this defense is in transition. It's a work in progress.

This is not a bad team....no need for cutting this player and trading this player....Steelers have loaded the offense (which they wanted to) and now it's time to reload the defense.

Ravens came to our stadium plenty of times before and they got whipped in the playoffs.

We destroyed them with the right to play in the Super Bowl on the line.

Steelers are in good position. They have some tough choices to make and re-load the defense.....OLB, CB,

Whether through the draft or FA or a combination of both these spots need to be upgraded.

I'm not panicking. There will be 31 teams that will be disappointed.

It's just a game....

Agreed. That's why I don't come on game days anymore and definitely not the "Day After"...

I've learned that some just like to piss in the wind regardless of the game's turn out. And I also know that I do not own the team, nor am I a paid coach or worker in the FO - I'm only a fan. A fan that will support the team in their high moments and low's. A fan that realizes that it's very unlikely to win and be in the post season every year.

Even if the Steelers would have won on Saturday - how do you think they'd have faired in the next three games? We'll never know; but, we do know that this season was better than the last two.

It's time to start working on the plan for next season and I'm sure, as a fan, that it'll be fine...

Tate was good enough to pick up when Bell was injured, he was good enough to be brought in when Blount was released. So that later you don't get caught without experience, and at the same time Tate would have had practice reps.

So when he was called on he was more aware of the playbook. That importance can not be overlooked........

And IMO was the biggest fail of 2014 for the Steelers............

well since he was not available when Blount was released that would have been rather difficult ..

Absolutely. This team looks ship-shape.

Yep - just like the Bad News Bears!!!!!!!

but when he came available they could have picked him up. My point in they waited too long to address the problem.

I don't think any are in the navy, I say lets get them field ready........................... :)

LeXX beat me to it...

7 days I think the span was....... but that is still better than the last minute

Care to share the Prozac?

At that time he was grumbling about playing time. So why would you bring in a back doing the same thing you just released Blount for?

but when he came available they could have picked him up. My point in they waited too long to address the problem.

Tate was released Dec23 by the Vikes. ..I really dont think that week would have made much of a difference...I guess I can see maybe they should have gotten a more vet RB eariler ..but who? Tate was the best available as he was in football shape still...

....when he came available that would have gave him more time within the playbook. Which could have helped with pass catching /blocks . And a little more on the same page with Ben as a emergency outlet.

Don't have a list in front of me but someone had to be out there with experience for a earlier signing.............

If you have to scour the internet for some kind of warm body it tells you there wasn't much out there. It sucked *** that Bell got hurt, but Tate was cut loose one week earlier than being signed. Could we have had a better option as a third string RB sooner? Green Ellis or someone? Sure. There is no magic replacement for the most versatile player on your offense. It is what it is.

Ellis ? Bush ?

still better than a RB with no NFL reps.......
