Chance of beating the chiefs? One of best criticisms of the tomlin era, is the players aren’t held accountable. Going back to Harrison, AB, Bell even Ben. Steelers annually one the highest payrolls in football. To beat the chiefs those getting paid the big bucks have to earn their checks, including the coaches. Start with Tomlin and Butler who have guaranteed jobs ever year, they need to step up with a plan to slow Mahomes. 9 tds in 2 games Mahomes has stated publicly playing Steelers defense like 7 on 7 in practice. Canada has to call a game plan that’s north to south mixing the pass with the run. he has a big young offensive line, point them toward the goal line not the cheap seats, and I believe these guys will deliver. Throw for first downs not 2 yard gains on third and long. Next the big buck boys Ben and Watt they have to be almost perfect that’s what they are being paid to be. Ben can’t stink it up and wait till forth quarter to wake up the offense, run a 2 minute drill the first series of the game.. do something, if you don’t it will be a route. Next youngsters, Harris, muth, bush, claypool, johnson, this is your team now, your time, go write your name right up there with Steelers greats who were once in your shoes GETTR done! Guys like fitz, Schobert, Haden, Iron Head 2, be bigger than you have ever been in this game and you won’t regret it if you leave it all on the field… you have your chance now… grab em by nose and kick em in ***! GO STEELERS!!!

On paper, we shouldn't win this game. But, I have a feeling we come prepared and give Mahomes fits - AND we win. (y)
For one thing, TJ will be playing and he was out the last time we played the Chefs.
Second, the Steelers aren't a good team and have no pressure. KC on the other hand is the biggest point spread favorite in NFL playoff history.
Third, I regard Andy Reid as a slightly better coach than Shades but like Shades he can sometimes make the worst possible decision at the worst possible time. For example, if at some point Reid goes for 2 and fails and we win by 1 I will not be surprised at all. Andy Reid is gonna Andy Reid.
Fourth, I saw this tasty nugget the other day, in 18 years Big Ben has never lost two games in the same road venue in the same season.

I'm just gonna relax and enjoy the game. No pressure. F*ck it, I never thought we get to the playoffs anyway.

That's all we can do anyway. Mahomes is a great quarterback, but he can have a ****** day just like any of the others. Didn't Rodgers have a stinker a few weeks ago? Add in TJ that we didn't have the first time and Mahomes might get really uncomfortable and make big mistakes.

Exactly Ron. I predicted a 7 win season, with no playoffs. This is definitely a bonus.
Anybody with half a brain realizes we will be huge underdogs and deservedly so. The other half of the brain knows anything can happen on any given weekend in the NFL. Especially it seems, this season.

By the way.....not sure how relaxed I’ll be🤒🙂

Of course the last time we played Kelce was out for KC and while we have problems covering good TE's, in order to pass to Kelce Mahomes has to drop back to pass and TJ and Cam will be heading in his direction at high speed.

That's all nice but Ben isn't the one calling the plays in the first 3 quarters of a game. It's all Canada. He removed our no-huddle offense completely to start the season. What they have now is still a fraction of what it used to be. But, mixing the no-huddle in multiple times throughout the game and not just at the end of a half is the only way this team moves the ball consistently. Running Canada's base offense is offensive, at best. They rarely score in the first half. Sure, Ben could make a better pass here and there. Sure, the receivers could make another catch or run the correct route here and there. And, sure, the OL could block better most of the time. But, the O and the play calls is 99% Canada this year. Those short quick throws behind the line on 3rd and 10 with no read progressions is all Canada. If Ben isn't given the keys back (at least for large chunks of this game), we will have a very hard time winning. So, here's to all of Ben's helmets having malfunctioning headsets.

My thoughts exactly.

Year 1 of the rebuild and we still made the playoffs when NOBODY gave us a chance. It's all gravy from here on out. Let's enjoy it and let's shock the world.

Can't make the mistake we did vs Cleveland last playoffs, we sat back and allowed Mayfield to throw quick passes and negate our pass rush, we have to be a little aggressive on defense, if we don't force turnovers we're more than likely not winning.

TJ and Cam are going to bring the heat. Will it be enough against KC?

I almost feel sorry for the Chiefs. They do not know what pain they are about to go through on Sunday night. Tomlin unleashed in January. watch out *******!!

Actually Chris Carter had a great article about PIT‘s coverage of TEs this year. They were 5th in TDs (4) given up by TE, and 11th in yards gained (840+) to TEs. Safety play has been tremendous. Folks bash Edmunds, but he has had a very solid year covering TE’s, RB’s and wheel routes. Minkah is, well Minkah and can do everything. His coverage speed is Troyesque.

I am ok with Ben slinging it but in the 5 to 20 yard range. If Canada has control until the third quarter it is unlikely they pull out a win. They will have to mix up their approach if they want a victory. No behind the line of scrimmage passes please.

Where is documented Ben doesn’t run the 2 min offense? He has several times times this year (not often enough though), he did on the game winner in BAL.

Don’t hold your breath Slash….you know it’s coming with Canada.

Agree with both of you. If we do the silly stuff again I don't have much hope.

I sure as hell hope so...Why not? Let Ben play and have fun! The schoolyard games are always the best.
If our offense doesn't know what's coming then neither will the defense.

They'll play hard and do their best (except for Devin Bush).

I would like to see them open with more of a heavy set.

OL, Ben, Najee, Muth, (And then I'm torn here whether it should be Gentry or Watt) Claypool & Diontae. Then get into a tight run formation and run right at KC.

Keep the same personnel out and huddle up. When KC responds with a "heavy set" to hold up on the run, go to no-huddle and force them to stay heavy while spread out and start exploiting their bigs with lots of routes designed to make them chug all over the place in coverage.

That way Ben has at least 4 good receiving targets, and if they have Watt in, a guy who can help pick up pass rushers. The line has to commit to giving Ben a few seconds and they need to freak the Chefs out with a quick, vertical passing attack that sets them back on their heels. If they try to drop guys back a bit, audible to a run and let Najee pound on them to remind them to stay honest.
