So some say LeBeau must go...The game has passed him by.....his schemes don't work anymore and he doesn't fool anyone in today's NFL.

I say LeBeau's defense works when you have the right personnel.

They certainly aren't world beaters and they look shaky at times but in recent weeks we've seen some of the young talent step up...in the form of Tuitt, Heyward, Blake, Gay, Williams, Spence, McClendon.

They haven't peaked yet and might not for a few years but this is what I expected from the start of the season is that once some of the young talent gets comfortable with the schemes....we can see it kinda start to become more effective.

Our Front 7 is quickly developing into a strength on Defense!

So what is your opinion of LeBeau now?

"Some people say". What, is this Fox News?

Those people are unrealistic. Harrison said, upon his return, that the problem was the players NOT the coaches. The calls were good, the execution was bad and it was on the players end. Obviously he's improved that somewhat.

Until he turns senile, I see no reason for Dick to stop ******* our opponents.

Maybe we will never have all the right people again...that is my problem. Adapt to the people you have. He slowly seems to be doing that. It took how many years for him to start letting his DL try to put pressure on the QB? I wouldn't care if he retired after the season personally. I loved what he has done for us but all great things have to come to an end sooner or later.

Yes. Bring on the Broncos and Patriots.
If they can shut down Alex Smith and his SIX completions on the year of more than 20yards and the chief's wideouts and their ZERO touchdowns....
We're golden!

Yep...when the defense is bad it's the players fault...when they play great it's because DL is a guru...you hear that every week from the TV talking heads.

But when senior players like Harrison agree, what does that mean?

I said this in another post, DL will retire when he wants too and not a minute before.

With this probably being Troys, Ikes, Keisels, Harrisons last season, I'm guessing he'll go out with them

So when a coach talks all of his players up as DL always does he is protecting his players...right? He has never said one bad word of any of our picks on Defense. The exact opposite in fact. ...maybe it can go both ways a little.....When a system take 3 years to learn I personally would rather have another system in place...The turnover in this league doesn't allow for that anymore.

Given the number of Superbowl rings and top ranked defenses this "3 year system" has produced, I'm inclined to keep it.

I hope not. I think the young guys are getting it. still need a real outside backer but if Harrison comes back the defense will be just fine next year

Exactly. The Broncos and *Pats would shred this defense, we could barely contain a sickly Dwayne Bowe.

I love and appreciate what he's done for this team, but I'd let him go in a heartbeat if we could land Rex Ryan. DL's defenses have never performed well against the Patriots (save for that one halloween game many years ago), and as long as the AFC East looks the way it does, the playoffs will almost always go through New England. When I see what Ryan's defense did to the *pats this week, I can't help but wonder what it would be like to have this Steeler offense and his defense going up against them in the playoffs....

Look, I am a Lebeau supporter and think he should have a place on the team in some fashion till he wants to leave, but it wouldn't be the worse plan to move to a D that isn't a shutdown D, but rather one built to contain big time passing games, gamble for turnovers, and slow scoring, not try for the shut out... I just think that defensive schemes are so overused these days and everyone has seen everything you can throw at them... the novelty is gone and new school QBs don't really get fooled that much..... couple that with the fact that the league penalizes defenses so much its just time to build around the offenses and let go of the old school defense first mindset...

Even Alex Smith said he knows exactly what to expect from our defense, that he knows every look....after playing against it just THREE F'N TIMES. I'd like someone who can put more than one plan together, we've milked this one dry.

Alex smith is a moron, but the fact is that the d we run now is grossly different than the one we ran under cowher during Lebeaus first stint, or his second stint, or even what we ran when tomlin first got here... there have been massive tweaks, especially through the secondary. Lately we just don't have natural pass rushers. we cut ties with Woodley rather than try to get him back into form and Harrison got old. Jones hasn't shown didly squat and Worilds is ok at best. The safeties are slow, and that's a killer for any 3-4. the team hasn't adjusted personnel to compensate for the inability to hit hard in the secondary anymore. goodell basically opened up the middle of the field to teams with his new rules. We need more actual cover guys and less heavy hitters in the secondaryThe cover 2 schemes tomlin inserted aren't working with these safeties or corners... the only CB adequate in zone is willie Gay, and im not that comfortable with him above a #3 role.

But really everyone runs zone blitzes these days so its no surprise at all... there isn't one team in the league that doesn't have a little of that in their gameplans every week. Its way easier for a QB to recognize tells for any blitz these days

Oh really? Why then did he and his offense fail to score a touchdown during 4 quarters of play in good weather?

The defense has given up 32 points, combined, the past 2 weeks against 2 pretty decent offenses, while scoring 7 points. forcing 3 turnovers, and stuffing 2 pretty decent rushing attacks.

Yeah, Lebeau sucks. No doubt. A good defensive coordinator would have shut down 2 pretty decent offenses, one on the road, while shutting down their running games, and forcing 3 turnovers ...

Wait ...

How about the one Cleveland has it gets learned quick it just does not seem to be worth a ****

I would say that halloween game was because they changed the gameplan to stop the short passes Brady loves to throw, also Cortez Allen had his best game ever shadowing Gronk. They played press man, not allowing Brady to get rid of the ball quickly, and we just don't do that often enough. The only real beef with our scheme is the soft zone where CB's are 10-12 yds off the line. I get that you can say we don't have the personnel but this defense has pretty much always played that way. We pretty much let the chiefs get into FG range all day.

Sometimes old men with a great history are smarter than young men with none. I'd say LeBeau is always smarter than someone who has never even coached. But just keep on trying to prove he's not.

Older men are sometimes "wiser" from experience not so much "smarter".
Young men might be "smarter" but waste valuable time achieving the end results.
Older wiser men do not have time for bull sheet and have already made or cannot afford to be careless or make mistakes.
Learn these lessons well young Jedi.

And kept the RB with the most TD's out of the endzone and held him to less than 29 yards rushing (less than 80 total yards). How many times do we hear that yards aren't points?

I think that lebeau needs to retire. His defense does not work with the players we have now and it is also becoming predictable. If we had 2 harrisons on the team then it might be another story. Its not all lebeaus fault the D is slipping. Poor drafting or drafting non 3-4 guys have hurt, along with not drafting good Cbs / safeties. Lebeau seems too stubborn to really shuffle things around and its time for new blood. KC is not a high power offense it is a grind or out ball control style which plays into our hands. Smith still threw for a lot of yards, but they could just not get into the end zone. In the AFC SD and NE I think would be our worst matchups. Normally Denver would be #1, but i think something is wrong with maning unless he is just resting his arm.

I don't think we have had the horses to run the show in our defense. Things look really good when we got a good pass rush. We started blowing holes in the middle of the line as well around the NT position. It ALL starts at the line. Sure we need an influx of new talent at CB,but it won't mean **** if we don't win at the line and get a good pass rush. This is simple football defense 101. it could be 3-4 or 4-3 it doesn't matter if you're just waves crashing against a solid wall. Even a scrub has been qb will look good then, which we have all seen plenty of the last few years.

You know what? I'm sick and tired of Steeler legends being bad-mouthed. DLB has forgotten more football than anyone else will ever know. He's done a great job with what he has to work with. I'm sick of the Troy-bashing. He'll be the first one to bench himself when he becomes a liability. Kiesel still chases opposing RBs down from behind when he has to. Harrison is still a bad *** and is not a liability.

**** all ya all who put them down. Yeah, maybe I'm living in the past, and engaging in "hero worship," but they're heroes for a reason. We're on a roll and I have nice, big, butt cheeks for anyone to kiss who wants to bad mouth these guys. Have a nice day.
