Sorry, but I am agreeing with Mark Madden here

I believed that Rudolph was a good career backup, and that still is probably true. But I also believe in what I see, and over the last three games, he's played very well. The team has responded to his good performance, and embraced him as their leader right now. Mason deserves to remain as the starting QB, no matter what the official depth chart says.

That being said, I can also see that many here think that Mark Madden is a piece of shlt. At least the guy isn't afraid to have an opinion. And the balls to write publicly about Tomlin being "overrated" and feeling better if the Steelers had a new head coach. An opinion which some of us in this fourn have had for years.

Madden could do the above about Tomlin without the standard..."Steeler fans are stupid! They are fooled every year by the team!" He writes that almost every-time in some form or another. I don't feel I am ever fooled. I hope the year is gonna be a good one, if it is...great. If not, I move on. So I'll give Matt Canada a chance to show he can be good, or Kenny Pickett or whatever. Hey, maybe it'll work out! To me it's more fun that way. I lose no sleep if it doesn't.

Sorry. I didn't get "Steeler fans are stupid!" from that article, at all. Or the one I read below it about Tomlin and Cowher.
 
What‘s shocking to me, now that Big Ben is gone, is how horrible coach tomlin is at recognize qb talent. Rudy is, and always has been, our backup qb. He was drafted to be that. It was obvious trubiski was horrible, he should have been cut. Kenny on the other, was playing hurt and it affected his play… before that we was under the thumb of a horrible offensive coordinator that ended up getting fired mid season. Both the playing hurt and Canada‘s horrible offense should not be held against Kenny. Rudy throwing a couple routine slants that were broke off for big plays doesn’t qualify him for the hall of fame, as Madden suggests. He did his job. he did what he’s paid to do. No reason Kenny can’t or hasn’t done the same. On a well ran teams to don’t lose your job to injuries! The fans don’t pick the starters! I’ll give coach Tomlin some credit for that.

Exaggerating to clarify. He has done it enough over the years though to be aggravating.
 
WHether you like Madden or hate Madden. He isn't wrong. Every game Mason wins makes Tomlins handling of the QB depth chart for the past 2 years look dumber and dumber. Imagine if Mason went deep in the playoffs or even superbowl? Tomlin would have everyone in the world questioning his decision to have had mason 3rd on the depth chart. Like "this clown was too stupid to even know what he had in Mason." Type talk. I don't know how you could look at it any different if that were to happen.

No, he writes that if Tomlin legitimately believes Pickett is the #1 QB, he obviously should start the playoff game. If he doesn't start the game when healthy, he is not the #1 QB and should not be listed on the depth chart as the #1 QB.

No other team is starting any QB not denoted as #1 on the depth chart.

Kenny has sucked this year. It's ok. He may improve, but let's not tear other guys down to shore him up.

Tomlin is the constant in the "We got our ***** handed to use again" round of the playoffs.

the "you don't lose your job to injury" is complete nonsense, it's a falsehood. it has happened plenty of times in the history of this (and other) sport(s), and it will continue to happen.

True fact. Didn't Brady get his starting spot with the pats because of an injury to Drew Bledsoe.

he did. as have many other notable athletes. hell, steve young didn't really get a real chance to become the 49ers starter until joe montana got lit up in that 1990 NFCCG against the giants. and then, if i'm not mistaken, he had a bad elbow injury that following preseason (not sure if that was related to the injuries incurred from the NFCCG), and that was pretty much it for joe in SF. after steve young took over, montana would never start another game for the 49ers.

But isn't it still Canadas offense? Not sure an offense in place for years can be overhauled with more than half the season played.

I think it's more the case of Rudolph being the better QB...for the time being anyway.

I think that if Rudolph has an outstanding game tomorrow, at Buffalo in a playoff game, and the Steelers somehow pull an upset, then those whispers might begin in earnest.

You know you're playing with fire the instant you say you agree with Madden on anything; that being said, I 100% agree with you and him. Tomlin's response to the question was immature and frighteningly weak; like something said from a person who is feeling defensive about the situation. Shades has been a dishonest douche to Mason for years now. The "QB competition" in 2022 was a complete lie from the get go. It never existed and ever since then Mason has had to put up with even more bull s--t from Shades: lies, deceit, dishonesty. And yet Mason has handled it all with professionalism, class and dignity. Shades could learn a lot by Mason's actions, instead of continuing to act like a megalomaniac, choking from artificial pride.
