State of the SN - No BS

See that's the thing, it shouldn't be something that mods need to deal with. Other posters need to shove it right back at him, and see if he can take it, not just dish it out. I've had it out with him several times, I know Supe has as well. But you're right, the whole thing is so stupid and juvenile... I guess the big difference on my end, in these tit-for-tats, is that I'm usually faking it. I don't give two ***** about Dri Archer, nor do I worship Barack Obama for that matter, just like to go against the grain sometimes so that the discourse isn't so one-sided and over-the-top.

So the T is for Trolling?

No, not neccessarily, but I will argue a point above and beyond how I may actually feel about something...if I feel like someone's trying to intimidate me or smack me around, or call me a ******* troll, for instance. ;)

Well sometimes Tibs that is the problem , these posters are just trying to stir up **** and really don't care how they do it. The more you push the more they fight back . Kind of like when you tell a kid NOT to do something and they do it anyway -- pushing your buttons.

I find that typically the only want to combat these people is to IGNORE them -- I have a couple people on Ignore - if I don't see their posts then I don't have the need to comment on their nonsense.

Anyway that is my opinion !!

I have several people on ignore (and I don't doubt some have me on ignore). This is why I know it works so well, even though I have been told it doesn't because if people quote an ignored person, you can still see it. OH THE HORROR!! Except, I don't read quoted stuff and it is in this nifty quote box that lets me know it is quoted and I can ignore it!

I took myself off your ignore list. you're welcome.

This place has gone through a lot of things in the ten years plus I've been around. A lot of the core group of posters I've known and met have either tapered off, or gone away altogether. I've been to draft day summits a few times, and multiple games both in Pittsburgh and out of town. I can tell you honestly that I've met some great people here and have never been disappointed when we've gotten together as any kind of group.

Thing is, that same group is getting older, and with that the give a damn is waning too. ( I ran into Stainless the other night and we talked about just that very thing.) Where it used to be fun to get into these meaningless scraps about Dri Archer, Timmons, Tomlin, or whatever other debate of the moment was, now it's just a waste of energy. Nobody here for the most part changes their stance on anything so you get your Hatfields/McCoys bickering back and forth ad nauseam. Even though I've crossed the line a couple times over the years arguing with folks like Idioteque, for me it's never personal. Banning obvious trolls is one thing, but I'm not so sure banning long time posters is the answer even if you think they are a walking hemorrhoid. Having the team struggle the last few years hasn't helped.

I plan on being a contributor again, I just hadn't gotten back around to it after the last reset. This place isn't for everybody, nor should it be. It's what made it different to begin with. If they put another big summit together I'll be there as long as it doesn't happen during one of my son's lacrosse travel tourneys. Sometimes people just move on, no rhyme, no reason. Good luck to you guys on what you're trying to do. If it gets some of the old guard back that's great.

You can think certain posters are a joke,, or members of the "pompom club" as deemed by others. At the same time when discussions are squelched by holier than thou attitudes snarkifcation, and just people being ********... Who do you keep? What is acceptable?

We lose two of the BEST posters we ever had here in dobre shunka and TMC. Was it the pom pom club / dumbasses that drove them away? No it was the douchebags like idioteque who couldn't have a decent discussion. I shouldn't throw stones at just idioteque, there are a few more here that do the same thing, and if you don't agree with them,, you are a pom pom club member or you are maligned .

I been here since 2000 or so. if im a dick to people I should be banned too. Who cares if they are "Long time posters". Fact is this site only has about 1 % of the total Steeler Fans out there signed up. If getting rid of dicks works for buff. and keeps our good contributors like TMC/Dobre, Im all for it.

I really need to face reality and get some glasses.... I read this twice and was trying to figure out what the eff is the porn porn club and why would that be a "bad" thing?

Having been around and not, I was SHOCKED when I found out TMC was no longer here! Dude was a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge!

he could never pass up an argument either - and idiot did run him off with his constant badgering bullshit - at least that's what it seemed like

I thought the culmination was the original Archer debate. TMC was of the opinion that Archer was a wasted luxury pick (paraphrasing) and a few of the folks who didn't agree with him were very vocal about it. There was a prolonged argument there and he was followed from thread to thread (he did some following himself iirc) ... in any event, the argument went on too long and became too personal and TMC left.

Sounds like we are all telling a story: "The Legend Of TMC"

On a personal note: TMC confided in me once that he actually was born with 3 testicles.

I guess you can add that to the tale.

buff how much on a regular month does it take to run this place

My two cents:

Have been reading and occasionally posting on this board for a long time (can't remember how long but more than 10 years). I've never contributed money because I've always had a love / hate relationship with the board. I've always preferred reading the board in the offseason when news is harder to come by. Love learning about under the radar draft prospects etc. But the hate part comes when you get a psycho (like Par 5) who pops up and dominates every thread with unrelenting negativity. Also hate the endless, repetitive back and forths about why our coach (whether Cowher or Tomlin) sucks.

During the season I would typically come here for injury updates and little else --- I'm just not a fan of the negativity that dominates the board after a Steelers loss or even a win that should have been a 45-0 blowout but wasn't. And I really can't stand the drunken rants that immediately follow a loss (fire everyone!). Just never understood using an internet message board to vent frustration.

Nowadays I find that Twitter gives me everything I used to like about this site (draft analysis, salary cap analysis, news like who the Steelers are meeting with pre-draft, training camp practice reports etc.) without any of the negatives. It's not even close as to which one is more useful. I come to this board more out of habit that anything else. Just my honest feedback.

no way twitter could ever equal SN. Maybe a watered down version, at best. But everyone is entitled to a opinion...........

No negativity on Twitter at all. And the conversation is riveting.

I am not a fan of Twitter. I like the Message Board format way better than Twitter or Facebook.

On a serious note, you can get to know some other members on this board. There were a bunch of us who met before the Steelers vs. Bucs game in 2010.....

I get the negativity, I want that gone too. But contribute some positive stuff and lets get needle pointing the right way.

Interesting points with Twitter, however, the discussions are short lived and only involves a few people. It's real easy to end a Twitter fight or avoid a troll there, but the back and forth and deeper discussions still dominate in the message board format.

I did my duty. Love this site. We may not always agree on why but I know after a loss there are some guys who are just as pissed as me. And when we win just as happy. Here's to the board and the people behind the scene making it happen. Thanks!!!
