Steeleers 3rd round pick = RB Kaleb Johnson

That is wishful thinking but when you run on every 1st and 2nd down it is not even a gamble. Couple that with we still don't have a QB i don't think DCs will be shaking in their boots
I think you need a little more optimism. We do have QBs that can throw the ball. Mason will do well in this offense with DK and Pickens. He throws a good deep ball. The line will be much improved and our new RB is used to getting yards even when they know the run is coming. Najee had poor vision and wasn't suited for a zone scheme. He missed plenty of cut back lanes. Kaleb excelled at this. This will make the play action far more effective. AA Ron would also be effective at this.

If you only have 1 credible deep threat, you can easily take that away. But with 2 legit deep threats, you can't take away both with 1 safety unless you have an elite cover CB that can go man on one of them.

If the steelers are foolish enough to stay ultra conservative and rarely go deep, then yes, the box will continue to be stacked. But they paid a lot for DK, and Mason has a good deep ball. It only takes a few deep shots to back off a defense. I mean well designed deep shots, not low % moon balls.

Last year they lacked a second outside WR so stacked boxes were inevitable. Now if they let it happen, it's their own fault.

I think our talent is there I just have 0 confidence in the coaching. Our line should have been improved last year, but was mismanaged along with a injury. We had owned the Bengals D with Kenny, Mason, and Russ. Then we inexplicably literally run every 1st and 2nd down till the 4th Q the last game. The Ravens game we came up with some idiotic defensive gameplan. I feel like we could have all-pros at every position and still not win. I feel like Rodgers won't take any BS and do what he wants which is sadly what I think we need. I just don't know if Rodgers is good enough anymore

You know my feelings on it. The defense philosophy will change when the offense starts putting the defense in better positions. I would argue the draft already shows a commitment to fixing the issues.
Yep. And you said all of this the last few seasons and again this upcoming season now. The offense issues is on the HC. He handcuffs them. So nothing will change until Tomlin changes that.

Yep. Everyone can say this season will be different because of this and that and all.......but in the end. Until I see something different trotted out there on offense I will expect the same end results.

This says so much about our HC and philosophy of pushing a square block into round hole.

ESPN had his comparison pre-draft as Demarco Murray. In his very short prime that guy was a beast.
My Kaleb comparison is Corey Dillon...

Very similar is size, abilities, and running style to me.....IMHO.

If he has Dillon's success or comes very close ....the Steelers have a very good one!

I really like this draft..

DK Metcalfe and Pickens can take the top off. Rudolph and Rodgers can run the QB room. A healthy Roman Wilson coming back.

If coaching doesn’t completely screw it up we might get our mojo back.

And instead of picking up his option they moved on from him to find someone who did fit the scheme. Smith also has said they didn't run anywhere as much of the scheme as they wanted because of personnel. That tends to go against your reasoning. The only other change I need to see is to let the QB play and use the whole field. That I do blame on Tomlin to a degree. I understand his reluctance with the QB's they have had but AA Ron better not be restricted like that.

DK also is a devastating blocker. Pickens can be if regains the will to do it.

I thought they added physical and more explosive athletes with DK and Johnson. Can’t do nothing but help that offense.

On D they went through lengths to add pass rush potential but more importantly not look like girl scouts against the run.

He was on our roster for 4 years.....not one season. Not two or three. Four seasons. Why draft him in the first place?

They drafted him when they were under a different OC. Smith runs a quite different blocking scheme. He wasn't a bad pick, but they stopped using him the way they did his rookie year. It is like they forgot he could catch. I blame the coaching for that not Najee. Smith needs something different in his scheme. Najee needs an old school offense.

Our offensive system hasn't change since Harris has been here. OC aside. Our O system is a Tomlin system.

Dk could have a positive impact on Pickens. Pickens wants to be the #1 but he knows what DK has accomplished in the league and when he sees DK practicing hard and doing the little things like blocking, it could almost shame him into doing it himself.

Plus if Pickens wants to break the bank, he needs a big season

Why? He will now have far more opportunities with single coverage. He may very well thrive this year.
That would require running the right routes, not throwing people under the bus, trying on a consistent basis. Things he’s not very good at when things don’t going his way. DK’s fat extension and him playing out his rookie deal with no extension is absolutely not something that has gone his way he is pissed and not mature enough to handle it

You know this personally? Seems to me they made a statement to him with the draft that he is in their plans.

Lol. Not even your boy Tomlin is dumb enough to pay 2 WRs premium money that we just gave DK-Pickens will want it, he won’t want to play out his rookie deal with no extension. Get ready for the soap opera

Eagles and Bengals are doing it. He doesn't have much leverage yet. Before you make these claims why don't we wait and see what happens. But if you want to go jumping off bridges, I won't stop you.

They should clock 40’s in full pads and cleats. This dude ain’t slow on the field.

He was tracked at 4.3 speed by that on the field measurement system. This guy is faster in pads definitely.

Brown/Smith in Philly have a cap hit that is half of what Chase/Higgins are getting. AJ doesn’t have Higgins cap hit until 2028.

DK’s cap hit starts hitting $30+M in 2026, which is closer to the Cincy guys.

Wonder if GP would take Smith money or demand Higgins money.
