You know my feelings on it. The defense philosophy will change when the offense starts putting the defense in better positions. I would argue the draft already shows a commitment to fixing the issues.
But we NEED the offensive philosophy to change to put the defense in better positions. So the defensive philosophy will remain playing tight, conservative and scared…just like the offensive philosophy. 95% of us refer to a tight, conservative, playing scared philosophy as THE Tomlin philosophy.
Maybe script some awesome first drives that exploit the opposition’s weaknesses? Maybe start scoring more in the first half in general.
The offensive strategy never changes until it’s too late and there is nothing to lose.
Until dippy realizes this he will keep putting his D in a lurch and will continue to hamstring the entire squad. He hasn’t realized it in over 5 years so I’m not holding my breath on ANY significant changes beyond that the new sideline ornaments will be better cheerleaders/depth for the guys on the field.
It’s the old chicken or the egg…
We need better Offensive philosophy for the D to shine (the egg)
Wait we need better Defensive Philosophy for the O to shine (the chicken)
Which comes first?
Screw it, we’ll just keep strutting out the same kindergarten philosophy on both sides as the HC stands there confused hiding behind his shades so you can’t see that “deer in headlights” look he has pondering the solution.
Happy Groundhog’s Day!
