Steelers @ clowns game thread

JHC. If I said 2+2=4 would you share your know it all wisdom with that too? All I said that the drop by Johnson was potentially huge. You can’t ******* see that?
It was big but I am saying he shouldn't be the target on many of those and the defense had his right armed pinned down to his side. He couldn't extend it. That is mainly a size issue there where a bigger receiver would have had a better chance to shield out the defender.

SIL don't bring strategy and football knowledge into the conversation when there so much feeling involved. 🤣

Time to let Canada go. No excuses he needs canned.
This may be true… but lets look at this offense from a five year block

in 2018 we replaced Haley with Fitchner. For the first part of Fitchners first season, not much changed from the Haley offense.. Ben was tearing up the league… then right aroun midseason the offense started to change… passes we’re starting to get shorter… the company line was that teams were taking away the deep pass… but that didn’t explain how if teams were covering deep, our Rushing offense sputtered to 75 yards or less in six of the final 7 games…

In 2019 that short passing game was even more prevalent, but we were told it was due to Ben being out and a lack of trust in Rudolph

In 2020 ben came back, but so did that offense… so they Replaced Fitchner in the off-season

Last year it was back again and we were told it was Bens fault… he was holding the offense back

Now its trabisky and Canada and the oline.. what will it be? Too many systems? The Rb Coach? The backup Te?

They are running out of scapegoats here… we change ocs and the problems stay the same… we change qbs, olinemen, wrs… and its the same damn issues over and over…

This is systemic and not isolated to the players or coordinators… hell they brought in a different DC and a top end assistant and the Ds issues are the same as well… i think its bigger than just one guy or a couple of players… probably tomlin… maybe the front office…

Of course there is a lot of shared blame. But I think Canada is the weakest link. Then Rooney, Tomlin, and Omar share blame for letting the continual deficiencies to continue.

it should be. but we also missed a field goal. so that would have been 20. if the defense plays a bit better it would be a win
I would agree with parts of the game. But in critical parts of a game he hasn't been nearly good enough. He can't elevate his game enough to make a difference when it matters. We know the NFL is often a game of inches. It's a play here or there that often determines outcome. If he can't elevate his game in critical moments those outcomes will be what you see right now. As you are what your record says you are. That would be in this case in this reference not good enough.

'Muth only had two targets all night for two nice gains but they were in garbage time when the game was over.

Time for JMM to make Carolina Reaper chili and unleash hell.

Continually trotting weak run defenders like Wormley out against against strong running teams is a recipe for failure.

This goes all the way to the top. Tomlin hires the assistant coaches. He calls the game plans and calls more plays than we realize. He hired an assistant, in Canaduh, who got fired from his last 2 jobs and only had one good year at Pitt in the last decade. No other team in the NFL would have hired Canaduh. But, Rooney lets this crap continue. He needs to lay down the law and put Tomlin on notice - 15 non-losing seasons in a row or not. He needs to hand over the reigns to his assistants a lot more than he does. Someone needs to make the tough decision here as well and if they wait until the end of the season to get rid of Canaduh (at least with an interim guy), they are pretty much giving up on the season. Keep Pickett on the sideline until late in the year and then let him get his feet wet in 2, 3, or 4 games so he is ready to be the QB1 next year without a shadow of a doubt. Go into the OTA's knowing we have a new OC and our QB1 is Pickett.

Sure they do, but even then we were still close. It doesn't matter what the defense does if the offense can't possess the ball and score. We could and should have scored more than 23. The defense wasn't great but they were good enough if the offense does anything in the second half. This is a browns team built to do exactly what they did. Yet even with a poor performance by the defense we had chances late. The offense has to take advantage of those chances not go three consecutive three and outs.
The defense gave up two very long scoring drives at the beginning of the second half - when they should have been rested.

The offense relies on being in a rhythm. Kind of hard to get rhythm when you're stuck on the sideline for long stretches (also kind of hard when your OC insists on slamming the running back into the middle of the line on first down nearly every series). By the end of the first half, the Browns only had about 16:15-13:45 edge in time of possession. You can't blame those first two drives on the offense not staying on the field - even with the 3-and-out sandwiched between. That was the defense crapping the bed.

Couple years ago the Ratbirds fired their OC in the middle of the season and went on to win the Super Bowl. IJS….

First half, I was impressed with the unpredictability of the offense. Then in the second half everything became a run on first down and run on second down throw on third down and everybody knew what was coming each time. Don't know why they changed things at halftime. I was afraid the Browns would change and start to employ the running game but that's exactly what they did and that was the key factor in the game. The ability of the Browns to consistently run the ball, especially in the second half.

I fully understand the thought here. However, technically, albeit indirectly, fixing the O does help the run D. If our offense actually scored points (as well as sustained drives that take time) our D would be benefited against the run. Whether, its longer breaks and less possession time for the other team to run or the other team needing to limit the run to keep up with our points, the D gets benefit.

Our D is dead (and teams can indiscriminately run) the last quarter because our D has been playing all game, the game is close and/or we are losing.

True, the best defense of all time is Time of Possession.
