Steelers Defense......What Happened to our STEEL CURTAIN?

Know exactly how you feel, 6. I got reved up when the Steelers tied it up at half but knew the outcome after watching the ease at which they scored on that first drive of the second half. There used to be a passion on that D. We can blame the refs and the rule changes if we want to, but that fire, talent and coaching just simply is not there and has been lacking for a long time. Don't see how anybody with the last name of Rooney can let this continue.

I think blaming the refs and rules is a cop-out. Everyone else has to play under the same rules and they're doing fine. This is a bigger and deep rooted problem with our defense in my opinion.

Our D has really gone downhill since LeBeau left and Butler was put in to front for Tomlin actually running the D.

To be truthful. The defense took a turn southward in Dick's last few seasons here. It is why I personally was hoping for a hire outside the organization with a new approach and philosophy. Butler though was promised his chance one day here if he stuck around.

It's starts and ends with Tomlin, he has final say on draft picks, he said it when we took Bruce David that it was his call so 10 years later I'm sure has the final call, its his defense, the scheme sucks dirty ***. Continually rushing just two Dlinemen is disaster, using 2 slow ILBs is ******* moronic, but we continue to do it over and over again

wonder whose call it was on Dupree/Burns and Edmunds?

I now Edmunds was playing his 2nd game...but he looks very pedestrian to me...
Just another guy...

It's an absolute trainwreck. It has been for years. That gig is up. Whomever is running that **** show needs to step away or be removed. You have zero chance of winning anything with the way it's put together.

Not only the Defense, but our special teams have been bad for a long long time also.

This defense is an embarrassment and a far cry from one's in the past.

There are tons of issues, but to begin with how did we waste such a high pick on Jarvis Jones and how the **** is Dupree even on this roster let alone playing as a starter??????

Get Cowher and LeBeau back to salvage this season. Not sure if it would actually work but for damn sure would sell tickets. Saw way too many red shirts in the seats todya

Phinny,,thank God!!! Someone as old as me to remember how things used to be. Buy you a beer? :)

The days of defenses putting the fear of God into the other team are gone. Sure we need to play fundamentally better, a lot better but no team fears defense anymore. Goodell made sure of that. No more bone crushing hits to make receivers think twice about going up for the ball. So, if you can't dominate physically, like we used to be able to do, you need to play more soundly. Tomlin/the players ....not getting it done.

We're gonna need more than beer to deal with this clusterfuck of a defense brother.

I'll buy the Tequila, lots of it!

I still do not get drafting Edmunds round one when he could have been had round two and possibly round three. ******* Tomlin!

meh he is a rookie, still way too early to see how that unfolds.

I am more concerned with Burns and the starting FS.

I still see three SS's and a SS trying to play FS..........

We all said the same thing of Burns, he is a rookie, and by his play still is. Edmunds a work in progress for a first rounder does not get it in the game today. Lack of committed tackling and hits is hard to watch. We have to many times one tackling and two standing watching and we wonder why they get five or six more yards. This secondary to me is worse than the linebacker play.

Yeah Burns is a disappointment, no doubt! We got to get dividends on some of these first and second round defensive players. We blew it with Uncle Jarvis, looks like we may have blown it with Bud but I’m holding out hope this year, Davis has to come through. I liked what I saw from him last week but has to be more consistent. Artie Burns looks like another potential first round bust but like Bud, I’m holding out hope for him in 2018.
TJ has to be more consistent which I think in time he will be. Sutton, although third round pick must improve and fast. Edmunds as you say is young and a rook and he has to come through.
My other concern is who takes over for Joe Hayden who is not getting any younger.

Sutton after showing promise is for me a least a little surprising with his turn for the worst.

I am not used to seeing the Steelers having poor/sub-par defenses for years. I used to watch the Defense win games for us since the offense was so poor for a long time. Green and Lloyd were sending QB's out on a stretcher almost every week. Our defense used to dominate games, but we still lost because our offense couldn't put up any points.

True but we did win with Green and Lloyd.....and Lake, and Kirkland..etc….despite the offense lacking point scoring.

Shoulda won the Super Bowl with that D and that mediocre offense led by Neil O'Donnel.

How I long for a return to a smashmouth D and an average offense again!

Sutton is small with very short arms. Overcoming these deficiencies with less than great speed is asking a lot. he is an average slot CB and an awful boundary CB. Tomlin falls in love with these mediocre players and plays them regardless of their talent level.
