Steelers' George Pickens’ Lack Of Effort Dismissed In Savage Tweet From Chiefs Safety

Not my problem.
That’s up to his coaches and teammates to address
If you care at all about the Steelers winning it’s a problem for you. His coaches and teammates shouldn’t have to address it, he’s a PROFESSIONAL and a grown *** man.

Two things should be crystal clear:
First: Despite the clear wishes of most of this board, Tomlin isn't going anywhere unless 1) we have a change in ownership for someone who really wants to win; 2) Tomlin decides to retire; or 3) Tomlin joins Jimmy Carter in the hereafter.

Second: The 2026 draft will be conducted by the same folks who brought us Kenny Pickett and another non-losing season means we will be drafting in the middle again. It's highly unlikely we will get a franchise QB under that scenario. While KP got a bad deal in Pittsburgh, it was fairly clear that he was not a franchise QB.

Totally hear yaz on the Coach Tomlin and his employment statis, I was just wishful thinking........... I'm sure many here have thought wishfully................

Salute the nation

No it’s not a problem for me. I don’t work for the Steelers in any shape or form. What they do has no impact on me other than a feel good fan perspective.

Whatever happens during the game or during the week is out of my control. I watch and hope for the best. If they lose they lose. Life goes on

1) a kid can dream…trades can happen and surely the best coach in the league will garner some
Picks to help rebuild the roster

2) KFP was brought to us by Kevin Colbert not Khan/Weidl. Weidl brings an emphasis on the trenches and seems to set a pretty decent draft board ranking for the powers that pick.

Not doing his job by quitting on routes or not blocking is just him being quirky? WTF? It’s costing his team. That’s bullshit.
If you think Pickens is the reason the Chiefs mollywhopped the Steelers you should learn defense (tackling, coverage assignments, block shedding, pass rush moves, etc) or go watch soccer.

Sure he ran a lazy route

At least he didn’t suck out loud all game

Do you hold the D accountable for ******** the bed at all or should Pickens be out there covering someone too? Geez he’s lazy not playing DB in his down time!

Many players played worse than Pickens that game, like the entire side of the ball where all the money is spent.

This is a sneaky draft for QBs

There will be a couple taken earlier than they should (as always cuz it’s a QB needy league) looking at Sanders and Ward as guys that will be over drafted

But there will be some decent value in rounds 3-5 as there are many guys coming out that could be worthy of a mid-late flyer

I figured a guy like Beck would be about a 3rd rounder, his injury could push him to 5-6th.

Resign Allen on the cheap
Bring in cheapest vet starter they can
Grab a mid round QB for value
If Beck drops from injury spend a 5th on him (and IR him to stash him)

Then going into next year hopefully they have some young cheap depth and can grab a higher end QB (draft or FA) to throw in the mix as the starter.

Gotta start drafting and developing QBs tho
As well as continuing to invest in the trenches

Note: developing players also implies an assumption to move on from Mike
Someday to a coach that you know…coaches and doesn’t require finished products
This QB draft class isn't "sneaky", it's absolute *****. Ward, Sanders, and Milroe are career backup QB's unless they go to a team with QB Coach Gurus and are developed into a starter. The Steelers don't have the Qb coach in the room to improve anyone.

Agreed on everything you said... but since this is a message board I put a few of my opinions and thoughts on it. I am not expecting Tomlin or Rooney to see them act apon them. Simply chatting with a few fellow Steeler fans is all.

There will be a couple that surprise

People always try to label these “great classes” or “weak classes” when in reality few are really great. Once in a blue moon there is one sure.

There will be solid QBs to be had, a huge part of it is the right guy going to the right situation.

3-5 years from now we can revisit this argument…until then pure speculation on the weakness of said class.

You’re changing the argument. You said that Pickens was only guilty of “being quirky”. When I pointed out it was costing his team, You make a straw man that you don’t work for the Steelers. No ****. That doesn’t change the fact that Pickens immature behavior has hurt the Steelers.

Where did I state the Chiefs loss was on him alone. I’ve been critical of the entire team for the three week collapse.

Teams are going to have adversity during the game. Competition from the other team will cause some of that adversity. Internal adversity can be avoided, that is on Pickens.

Agreed

Come game day it’s nice to watch a product on the field that is more exciting to watch than paint drying. GP is one of the only reasons to tune in and watch this offensive unit. Without GP it’s painfully hard to watch this product.

GP and Watt are currently the only two players that keep the games interesting on a team largely devoid of playmakers. Sure a couple other guys have an occasional moment, but those two are fun to watch at least 80-90% of the time which is more than can be said of most of the team.

Since it’s all about entertaining may as well applaud those that entertain.

That defense hasn't been championship level in over a decade.

And it's not because of the players.

am hoping GP balls out against Cincy and in the playoffs. then in the off season, trade him for as much as you can get.

Tomlin stated Pickens route running had zero to do with the int in question by Reid. So I guess all the hate towards Pickens isn't warranted here.
Of course it didn't because Pickens didn't even run a route on that play, he played paddy cake with the CB then just stopped.

Late first-round and second-round prospects at best. As you said, on the right teams with coaching they can all be good players. Unfortunately, the Steelers have given me zero faith they can develop a young QB. Rudolph, Pickett, and Fields have all demonstrated this, particularly the stark difference in the offensive approach between Fields and Wilson this year. I watched Daniels vs. Penix the other night and it was night and day versus what the Steelers would've done with either of those guys.

I almost feel it would have to be for a first-round pick or early second rounder. The huge problem with trading him is you have two huge gaps at receiver and with cap space, Khan couldn't even find a WR2 this offseason.

Here's your options in free agency:
Tee Higgins
Chris Godwin
Amari Cooper
Stefon Diggs
DeAndre Hopkins
Hollywood Brown
Keenan Allen

I want no part of Diggs. Hopkins is just a guy who you probably bring in as a No. 3. Cooper, Godwin, and Allen are all WR2s at this point. Brown is a low-end WR1. Higgins is the top option, but he's also a top-5 UFA this year.

Here's your options in the draft:
Tetairoa McMillan
Luther Burden
Tre Harris
Emeka Egbuka
Isaiah Bond
Elic Ayomanor
Xavier Restrepo

With Pickens, I'd really consider Egbuka or Ayomanor in the first round, but they could probably find good value in the second. Without Pickens, it would force their hand in the first.

Not sure if you watched Big Ben's podcast, but Ben had a great take on this, agreeing with you that he is supposed to run a vertical to keep the safety honest (no duh) but he also said that he would have opened left, eyes left on Pickens to not only keep that safety honest, but if the CB slips, that's his primary receiver. Ben would have progressed his reads from left to right, opposite of what Russ did. Made sense to me.

I replied in jest to Pickens.
Your lack of nuance is not worth arguing further

Well his route if ran was suppose to pull the safety toward him.......

Which everyone else does also.

Some posters simply hate any negative views toward our HC.

Which they voice. Which is fine because that is their opinion and perspective. 🤪

No he's not... He's a kid, & acts every bit of it

GP did run the wrong route. But the difference is debatable. Could GP help hold the safety a little. Definitely. Does that negate the fact that if the safety only focuses on GP that Wilson was still throwing into double coverage. No. I put blame on both. Neither did their jobs well.
