Steelers moving to Mexico?

Of course Rooney has to say he is "reluctant." It would be a colossally unpopular move to the fans in Pgh. What do you expect him to say? "We think it's a great idea to reduce our home field advantage by a game, and take away a home game from the fans in the city?"

Doesn't matter. He's not talking about a yearly commitment like the Jags have. That's the point. I get it, you're in denial about the Jags deal and what it could possibly mean in the future. But stretching for comparisons doesn't change the situation.

A preseason game wouldn't bother me in the least. Giving up a home game in the regular season would be foolish, beyond comprehension. We would likely have more fans in Mexico City than whoever we played (unless it was Dallas). But it still won't compare to a true home game at Heinz. Tha is way too much an advantage in an attempt to make the NFL product "global." That would be truly a moronic move.

I heard on NFL radio that playing a regular season game in Mexico would be tied in with hosting a Super Bowl in 'Da Burgh. This would make more sense revenue wise, especially if they are both in the same year.

Screw giving up a home game. I get what Rooney is saying, but as long as teams are volunteering, do not put your hand up. In fact, never put your hand up. Not a better way to screw your loyal fan base than to take a game away from them.

Ariba! Puedo verlo ahora, las normas de defensa azteca-como brutales. Los funcionarios deben tener cuidado de no hacer ninguna llamada soplado, o de lo contrario. Pregúntale a los árbitros de fútbol.

Translation: Ariba! I can see it now, the brutal Aztec-like defense rules. Officials must be careful not to make any blown calls, or else. Just ask the soccer referees.

I hope Rooney does not give up a home game for this. Maybe one pre-season game would be acceptable.

Terrible translation, who helped you? Chad Ochocinco?

There was another article on the post gazette or some site (I didn't read the link posted up there) but not only would the Rooney's have to agree to it they would have to petition the sports gaming board or whatever the name of the company is that owns Heinz Field. They would have to sign off on it also. That could be a sticking point and I'm sure the Steelers don't want to give up the money they get from a home game.

And the game better be before November. I don't want them to get stuck behind the Tortilla Curtain.

The artickle said that its directly tied to hosting a super bowl. It give the foreign playing team a "one up" on non foreign playing teams. Rooney indicated that as well. I'd think Heinz would be willing with that carrot dangling. The city of PITTSBURGH is working on a proposal for hosting the super bowl, this would help solidify this bid. MEXICO is the ideal location for the burgh, not much further than a west coast game. So yes if Rooney is pulling for one, this should be the one. As for the loss of the "home" game, I'd heard somewhere that the season ticket holders had to pay for that game, like it or not........can someone verify that statement?

With some claiming that since Jags play in London each year, it means they are moving there, I wonder if the Steelers are pondering a move to Mexico since they are considering giving up a HOME GAME to play in Mexico City.

Why, ON EARTH would they consider giving up home field advantage to play in Mexico instead? As tight as things are when it comes down to making the playoffs, and having a higher seed in the postseason, why the F would they consider giving up 1/8th of home field advantage and playing a game on a neutral site instead of benefiting the cosy confines of Heinz? Someone better give Rooney a mental exam.
it's true.

you're a ******* idiot.

Until Heinz figured a way to get decent turf on a regular basis I would expect the SB to stay elsewhere, the lodging and climate factors aside the turf would have to be strike 3.

Have you watched any home games over the past five years or so?

I can't see giving up a home game for a team that has sold out every home game since 1973 but getting a Super Bowl seems like a fair trade.
Of course a Super Bowl here wouldn't be faced with cold and snow as much as there is a good chance it would be cloudy, 35*, and raining, which is far more miserable.

Trust me, the game is Mexico WOULD be a home game. That country loves us, and has a radio station that plays our games and is devoted to the Steelers. I'm all for it.

Steelers will still get revenue from this game, and the spike in Steeler sales in Mexico will more than make up for the ticket sales lost.

If it's a bargaining chip to get a SB, it's a good chip to play, especially since we know the "neutral" site will be 80% Los Steelers!!

The more MISERABLE the better. The average Joe fan can't afford to be there anyways so let the JOE SCHMUCK suffer as they generally aren't there for the game, but there for the social importance......

I did a mission trip to deep Mexico, not the touristy places. People are poor as hell and yet some were wearing steelers shirts/ jerseys / stuff. I gave away all the steelers stuff I had with me and everyone wanted it. YOU sir (Cope) are absolutely right in saying it would be a HOME game for the STEELERS, regardless of coin flip.

isn't there a kick-*** mural of troy painted on a wall somewhere in mexico city?

The NFL is insistent on pushing international regular season games. It's only a matter of time before ALL teams are required to give up one home game every couple of years.

That would require a 2/3 owners majority vote. Teams that are for international games do it mostly because they can't sell out their own stadium for home games, and have the illusion that some city 1,000's of miles away will adopt their team for making what amounts to be one game a year played. It's their way of getting press. Did anyone notice the teams who give up a home game also tend to be irreverent in terms of post season play?

I do think Mexico City would be a fantastic move for a hurting franchise, but I also think the best place for these games is in the pre-season for the more established and respected franchises.

Will the Mexican's be selling a pineta in the team colors of our opponent?

Move the Texans to Mexico so they can become the Mexicans. Dallas is tired of sharing THEIR state, effing Cowgals.

OK, you _DO_ know I said the Steelers might be moving there, tongue and cheek, right?

That was said in response to those who claim Jags must be moving to London since they play a game there each year.

And, I don't know about you, but this little factoid makes me not want to go to Mexico City.

Sounds like we need to plan a family get-together around the date!!!

I'm sure we can get a few of us to meet down there for the game!!!

I'm definitely down.
