Last month the Pittsburgh Steelers dished out tender offers to all of their restricted free agents by the deadline so that the team wouldn’t lose their rights. One of those players was guard/center JC Hassenauer. Today the Steelers officially announced that Hassenauer had signed the tender offer.
Hassenauer was signed as a free agent prior to the 2019 season, and has started 7 games for the Steelers. He brings versatility to the Steelers offensive line being able to play either guard position and center.
Hassenauer, who played in the now debunked AAF for the Birmingham Iron, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. He failed to make the Falcons 53 man roster out of training camp and was released. He was signed back to the Falcons practice squad where he spent the remainder of the season.
Hassenauer played at Alabama in college, but wasn’t a full time starter. He only started 3 games his senior season due to the sheer amount of talent in front of him. He chose to stay at Alabama and full fill his commitment to the school even though he knew he might not play a lot.
He started for the Crimson Tide in a National Title game during his time there.
