Steelers put in bid to host 2026/2027 NFL draft.

Oh they are. They have been building extra hotels for quite some time.
One reason a Super Bowl bid isn't a reality: not enough rooms in the area. At the SB in Jax, people were getting hotel rooms all the way out in Orlando for the event; that's a 2.5 hour drive one way from Jax. AND they brought cruise ships in for people to rent rooms on. Not ideal. Pgh would be worse. Plus there's the whole cold weather thing. SBs should NOT be held in cold weather cities, it's just stupid even if you have a domed stadium. Who wants to party in a cold city for SB week? It's just stupid.

SB should only be held in a handful of towns that are warm weather and have the proper amount of hotel rooms: Miami, LA, New Orleans, Tampa, Phoenix and that's about it. Rotate between those.

Why would the number of visitors be much different than a home game?
You're going to have visitors from other teams PLUS the "event seeking" types from the greater Pittsburgh area. The ones who don't usually go to games, but will show up downtown for a big event. And, it's a 3 day event. You can add in street vendors, food trucks, etc.

So, you're saying if given a choice on where you are gonna take a vacation, out of the entire USA, in Jan./Feb., you would choose a place that's in the north? With all the choices in the USA you would choose to vacation in a city in the north during those months? OK, there, that sounds just fantastic, have a nice life. I'll be enjoying So Cal, FL, AZ or New Orleans, you can have a blast soaking in the soot, gray, cold, ice, snow and freezing temps. Enjoy! Have a super time!

That's great and all, enjoy your bizarre idea of a good time, but the majority of us prefer enjoying poolside weather when vacationing. If you would rather spend time partying above the arctic circle, then go for it, go there for your vacations if you like, but don't expect the rest of humanity to join you. The rest of us enjoy not having to wear blankets when on vacation.

Sh!t I woke up with my sleeping bag frozen shut in Germany. That was some cold sh!t. If they want to bring the SB here sobeit. Wouldn't go to it unless the Steelers were in it anyways...

Going to Germany in March it will be still cold, next trip i go be sides that will probably be Alaska. If yinz waiting until everything is warm and cuddly you are missing out.

I also was surprised my arse didn't freeze to the Heinz field seat during that Miami Steeler loss. It was some cold arse weather that day!

See, this is what I'm talking about...A MAN who don't mind his teeth chattering a bit to have some fun.

Add the always ongoing construction (it never ends ever) and yeah it wouldn't be pleasant. Not overly pleasant now every time I drive down, which I will be doing soon for a Transiberian concert. If you do go you better have some Guns n Roses with you.

Just a little patience....yeah yeah.
Is that something new to add to the LGBTQIA2S moniker

The problem is not the number of people attending the event, but the number of those people who will need several nights of accommodations. It’s not a drive in and out in the same day event like a game.

Why is everyone afraid of Pittsburgh hosting large events? Everyone complains about traffic (there's traffic in every large city, especially when they have large events). Pittsburgh does have enough hotel space. Super Bowls require 35% of the capacity within 60 minutes of the stadium. This would be 24,000 for Pittsburgh. Allegheny County alone has 18,000 hotel rooms. When you get outside of the county the number should get close.

I fully believe the numbers for the NFL draft attendance are inflated as well. Regardless, Pittsburgh would have a smaller crowd based on the size of the venue. It sounds like they'd set up a stage on the road and maybe have a setup similar to Nashville, just on a much smaller scale. The only traffic really disrupted is on the North Shore. No big deal.

Pittsburgh handled the Taylor Swift concert fine with 73,117 at the stadium for one night. Data from the concert (I believe cell phone data) had 191,781 inside and around the stadium for the June 16th show and 208,866 for the June 17th show between 10:00 am and 12:00 am. The city survived. Nothing was shut down. People were able to get around the city and everyone who attended had a great time. There was a Juneteenth event at Point State Park and downtown on the same weekend as well.

I would definitely stay out of the downtown area during that event. Can you imagine an extra 40K people or more trying to merge into the correct lane, squeeze over to the right/left all the way from 4 lanes over to hit the right exit within a 1/2 a mile of entering the freeway, going in circles looking for a parking lot that isn't full anywhere near their destination? I mean the traffic patterns alone will have folks going crazy. lol
Man,we sure think differently. When the Olympics came to Vancouver we went downtown all the time. The concerts, the events, the over all vibe, all the international visitors, pubs just hopping. When Expo was here the same thing. Bought a season pass and was there all the time. Nobody took their cars in. The trains and busses running nonstop. Vancouver is a beautiful city. It was nice showing it off. It was ******* great.

I bet Pittsburgh would put on a full week of great events. It’s a beautiful city as well. Bet you they would do it up very well.

Of course all us Steeler fans would be in for a long night in the first round as the reigning SB champs👍👍

OH, I hear yinz. And, I agree. I was thinking of the out of towners trying to get around the city. AND, since I live about 45 minutes away, I was thinking how that trip would turn into a 3 hour journey. You'd have to get a hotel for the weekend just to avoid the frustration of the trip home. Of course, that would probably be a good idea since I'd be drunk. lol

As a guy who spends all of his time traveling and who lives in the south tip of the city… Pittsburgh is far worse than any other city when it comes to events like this… its a city built out from old colonial forts. It isn’t a grid and its road structure is mostly antiquated. It has horrid public transportation and the rivers and mountains create too many natural bottlenecks…

any massive event comes at the penalty of significantly bad traffic consequences for the average Pittsburgh citizen… hell if I am driving home through Pittsburgh within a couple hours of a Pens game, I often feel like going full out Michael Douglas in “falling down” while sitting in that traffic lol…

GPS’s trying to divert traffic create worse jams all around the city…
The media downplays it, but having dealt with lots of major events now, I can safely say that Pittsburgh absolutely sucks while they are going on… why do you think every major sporting event has people leaving even close, undecided games near the end of the game to BTR?

Im not saying they can’t do this stuff, but its going to be 100% more aggravating than it is worth to most Pittsburgh commuters

Is your trip to Germany a vacation and where? Been there a couple times, November/December and April. Loved it.

Going to Kippenheim. It is a vacation/ family visit. As my sister and her husband lives there. She has 3 dogs and 4 cats. So a lot of walking, a few deli's and restaurants and a lot of visiting. Done the travel around Europe thing it is so easy to do from Germany. This time I will just be glad to see her and hang with her.

If any of yinz need a life coach I will just send you there. 😅 She is always coaching me up. A lot of Germans are all about staying healthy...

I hope those of us from Steelernation get to represent as a group. It would be cool to meet some of you guys I’ve been properly posting with for nearly over 21 years (I’ve been around since Kordell’s last year in da burg in 2001). Crazy. Anyhow, we could make some noise at the draft if it were to come to Pittsburgh

Wonder where it would be held? I guess i better read the whole article. Is the syria mosque still there? Stanley theater?
2 words. Showcase Cinemas..lol

Obviously, Heinz Field, the David L Lawrence Convention Center, the Pete.
