The Pittsburgh Steelers have been tied to every quarterback on the planet so far this off-season. We know, it’s been ridiculous, but it’s the off-season and sometimes it’s fun to dream. Most of the talk has involved quarterbacks that are still under contract with other teams like Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers. Today’s report says that the team is interested in three quarterbacks who will become free agents in a couple of weeks.

Jameis Winston
Mitchell Tribusky
Teddy Bridgewater

Report: #Steelers “love” Malik Willis, are targeting free agent QBs Mitch Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater, and Jameis Winston, per @TonyPauline

This seems as the most logical option to date.

I like Trubisky for four reasons:
  • He is mobile and experienced with the RPO, which he ran with Chicago. He rushed for 669 yards his first two seasons in the NFL.
  • He is a decent passer. 3,223 yards, 24 TD's, 12 picks in 14 games in 2018 with Taylor Gabriel and Allan Robinson as his primary targets.
  • He is very used to playing outdoors in cold weather. Seriously, Chicago?
  • He is going to be reasonably priced.
Trubisky is the best option. Bridgewater is a solid choice, but man he is no longer mobile and seeing his skinny frame take hits behind this offensive line? Ouch.

I'd sign off on Trubisky

Trubisky would be a good FA sign. For him, it’s the best situation for him to possibly start. Teddy is just another journeyman and wouldn't be an upgrade over Mason.

As for Winston…..no and HE🏒🏒 no. He’s recovering from a ACL tear and isn’t expected to be ready until camp. New offense, no practices….hard situation.

I’d go with Winston first then Trubisky

In my eyes this makes most sense. Before he (winston) got hurt he was reading defenses beyond 1st / 2nd looks. I'm saying he isn't the Jamis "crab-grabber" of old but has progressed his abilities and would be very price contentious for us. 2yr 13 mil 6 guaranteed easy cap cut 2nd year. Providing he is healthy.

Not sure if you saw the story on him from before. He ended up getting glasses and contacts and that's when his play improved. He was basically the real life version of Ricky "wild thing" vaughn. I mean he is no world beater but he did improve and you have to wonder how long the kid was playing with poor vision. He might actually still have a lot of room for improvement still.

This. As many think of Winston as the Winston pre eye surgery. I forget myself. He clearly has been the most productive. You wouldn't have to break the bank allowing you to fill a lot of holes in free agency. I give him a two year contract and start stock piling CBs and OLinemen.

I have realistic expectations for Mitch Trubisky and I like what he would bring to the Steelers, especially considering he would also probably be the cheapest guy on this list.

Jameis would be No. 2 on the list. He has the most pure talent on the list and seems to have turned the corner with his play.

I have zero interest in Bridgewater. He's a guy who isn't going to advance your franchise either way. Not bad enough to draft high and not good enough to make the playoffs. Not that I think Trubisky or Winston are stellar, I just believe they have bigger extremes for the team and a much higher excitement factor to watch on a weekly basis. I also realize how low I've set the bar with that last sentence.

I've been saying for awhile I feel out of all of the options to sign and start right now- Trubisky is the best fit for what they want/need. Mobility, he is actually a descent passer, affordable. You can beef up on other areas on your roster with good free agent signings. I think they can win the North and at least be a wild card team with Trubisky. If you can't land him- I would go Bridgewater and Winston.

I’ve been pimping for Mitch for months now and your points are very well stated.. He’s better than the two mooks we have and with good skill players that we have he can be successful here. Need some help on the OL and a WR with serious speed to help him succeed.
He’s young too at 27 and just needs a fresh start. The year in Buffalo working behind Josh Allen helped him.

I will go one step further Rudy might even be able to beat out Bridgewater. Yeah that is how uninspiring. Still ok with Trib just my second option. Unless another QB comes available probably the best two options for the Steelers.

Of all 3 of those, I only have interest in Mitch Trib.
For reasons already stated.
Zero interest in the other 2.
Also, let me say this…..
Mitch got JOBBED in Chicago.
He’s the only one of the three that could possibly be a reclamation project that actually pays off huge, like hitting the lottery.
He’ll be cheapest of the three. If he can’t beat out Mason and Dwayne, then we spent next to nothing on him.
BUT, if we hit, it’s HUGE and we now have our QB for the next decade and can focus on EVERYTHING else.
For the record, I do NOT see this scenario happening with any of these three.
But as far as the best of the three as long shot lottery ticket, he’s the one.

I think you're right. At that point, I'd rather roll with Rudolph than Bridgewater. Uninspiring is the perfect description.

Man, you guys really hate Mason Rudolph.
While we don’t know what Rudolph is as THE GUY, meaning #1 reps all off-season and at practice, we’ve seen a good bit of him. Athletically, arm strength wise, he’s a career back up. He does NOT have that “it” factor.

I don't need him to have the IT factor. I need him to not eat up cap space and allow the team to have an opportunity to draft an actual franchise quarterback in a season or two while they shore up the offensive and defensive lines.

I can't understand why folks want to waste cap space on dudes who are at the very best minor upgrades from Rudolph. All it does is weaken the team in the next couple years as they'll have less cap space to draft or sign free agents who may actually make the team somewhat competitive again.

But... if 8-8-1 is your eternal goal... I can see how it makes sense.

Wig the goal should always be winning. You don't take a year off from that. There is enough cap space to make this team competitive. They can even free up more space if desired.

Here is a thing lost on fans if you don't trust your GM/HC to get you to the promised land with what is available now, that won't change with a worse record and trading up. That very well could leave you at 8 and 8 just as easily.

Really don't get why fans think that a drafting a franchise is a magical fix. Last two years a free agent QB won a SB that route is just as doable. And even if you draft a QB high there is no guarantees.

With the right GM/HC tandem you can go far.

Not sure this team has that. Give me the best opportunity to win and win now. Make this team competitive capable.

Not two years from now, now.

With the OL we have now a QB doesn't have to worry about getting past his first read.....because he won't have the time to get past the first read.

I hear what you are saying but I also believe our OL will be way better than last year's version. I understand all the "if's / and's / N-but's but I think we draft a cog and bring in a FA cog thus the wheel will turn uch better. Hell, Harris might even not get hit until the line of scrimage......................

Winston at least has talent. It’s not as if this team is a QB away. Theres likely to be a minimum of 2-3 years of a vet as it is.
