Not at all. TMC stated very clearly why he was leaving the board.
Okay, well obviously I missed that post because I'm just going by what is being discussed.. care to go into detail, or just content with telling me I'm wrong without explaining what is actually right?

Page 67 was his last post. He had opinion one way others had opposite opinion. He got pissed.

Thank you

Just read the post and the discussion leading up to it and yes he still comes across like an absolutely enormous vagina who couldn't handle people disagreeing with him. And when you come across like you are the expert, dismiss everyone's opinions that are counter to your own, you should be expected to get a little extra push back for having that kind of attitude. But yeah for the most part it was all football talk then he started crying about nobody talking football and took his ball and went home. Awful display of emotional (un)intelligence from a grown man.

This pretty much sums him up. He's always been that way and can be very condescending. This board will be fine without him.

With that said, I do agree with his assessment of Archer. But like has been mentioned by others, my problem isn't with Archer, but with those who decided to draft him.

It is just a shame the thread cost us TMC, as he said that he has no intention of returning.............

I will miss his evals /perspective.

TMC is a GREAT wealth of football knowledge, sorry he has left. He made his decision, what ever the reasoning, he is gone. I do hope he comes back sometime and shares his views with us again. Remember though, as you know, itr was his choice to leave. I've said it a few times, read the good, skip the bad. You can't always think your opinion is the only on e that counts (not saying TMC is this). If you have an opinion, guarantee you so does someone else. Maybe close and agreeable, and maybe not. Its a MESSAGE BOARD, leave your message!!
thanks to all :)

Salute the nation

My personal favorite was his quote proclaiming others to be "armchair draft experts".
Still love that line. Of all people!

I always liked his commentary as I thought it added to the discussion. I also liked the dissenting or if you would prefer the differing opinions as the discussion that followed usually regarding college prospects was very informative because many of the folks were quite passionate about their view points and they tended to cover the player in question rather throughly. Hopefully he will return and continue to put his views on the board, he was one I remember from the old days when the board was actually hosted by the steelers or NFL before the thing went to hell and Dave started up his own web site so we would all have a place to be.

you guys put together books for the draft? breakdowns on the top talent and ranked them.? I think Del has. I know TMC has. So yeah,, hes more qualified to make assessments than MOST of us " armchair draft experts". I never found him belittleing. I have seen him challenged relentlessly because of the respect given to him by many. I have also seen him defend his position to GREAT lengths, against people he shouldn't have worried about,, His loss would be huge. We would be left with a couple snarky ******** and some pompom wavers.. and trolls looking for a fight in everythread.

TMC and I are very similar. When we fought it was cats and dogs because we are both stubborn as **** on things. But I respected his knowledge of the sport and his understanding to really critique a Steelers decision you better understand the rest of the league, the salary cap, cash flow and talent. TMC was one of the few on the board that had good IQ on all those subjects.

But that level of intellectual investment wears on you. He puts in hundreds of hours on football a year. Thinking about it. Watching it. Writing about it. Collecting his thoughts. Not just the draft, but I'm sure a high degree of NFL knowledge as well. It's what I do because I just LIKE football at the NFL level on many, many levels.

Sometimes you need to shut it down. I'm close. I'm tired of putting in the time to understand football only to see the Steelers do the exact opposite of what my research proves is correct. It's extremely frustrating on so many levels.

As to other people pushing him out the door? I don't think that's it. I think he needed a break. Get back to being a fan again. Enjoying just watching the games. And the Archer thread just gave him an excuse.

I suspect he'll be back. Maybe middle of the season. When it's easier just to watch and comment on games.

The off-season is always the part of football that really offers more disagreement and opinions than any other. It's really where the foundation of every season is made or broken and there's a LOT of divisiveness that goes into that.

well said........................

I have to admit, I am very interested in the English Premier League.

Their economy, despite how disparaging, is intriguing to me. There's just enough rich teams that maybe I'll watch as a more interesting version of baseball. The soccer games I've been watching in the Premier League have been incredibly fun to watch. And if you ever get a chance to watch a game drinking beers with an actual Brit, it's an incredible experience. Lots of fun.

The thing about Premier League is despite the fact they are multi-multi millionnairs, they actually are trying hard (just like in NFL Football). You can't really "dog it" in the Premier League. The fans know. That's what is making it different to me than MLB or NBA.

A nice 40 game season. Lots of games on TV.

It is definitely in play for where I go next.

I think my team in Premier League is going to be "West Ham United". Their nickname is the "Irons" or "Hammers" which is close to the "Steelers". They've had very bad ownership, but have a lot of money and a good stadium in North London. They could turn it around if they start getting managed better (right up my alley).

We'll see. Their season starts in August.

Sorry, didn't realize your mouse was broken. He's leaving because he feels this is no longer a place for actual football discussion.

I say he's pretty much right

stop it, antdrew. my shift is 8:16am-8:15am
we do not get paid overtime for this.

Well, about half the board already has. It's become just about the most pussified corner of the internet I've ever seen.

Yet here you are. Still posting. And above it all in this thread.

my apologies if I did not wait the requisite amount of time prior to posting. I do hope your taint isn't too bruised.

Kovacevic: Steelers' offensive identity, anyone?

Dri Archer is so quick that, if the Steelers' coaches have their way, not even their phone-book-thick playbook will contain him. All summer on the South Side, the team's third-round draft pick has bounced from scatback to slot receiver to wideout, changing roles and routes seemingly with every snap.

He might even be tasked with applying every ounce of that 5-foot-8, 173-pound frame as some sort of Minibus on occasion.

“We're not going to say, ‘Listen, he's in the game, so we're going to run sweeps and scat stuff.' ” Ben Roethlisberger was explaining. “If he's going to be in the game, he's going to run between the tackles. He'll have to pick up blitzing linebackers. He'll have to put his big-boy pads on.”

Sounds ambitious.

But then, maybe that's the most accurate way to describe the state of the offense after all of the summer's workouts concluded Thursday with the final day of minicamp. Next time the Steelers convene will be July 25 in Latrobe, and when they do, they'll be accompanied by far more questions than answers as to how they'll move the football.

No, really, think about it: What's the foundation for this offense, the identity?

It's easy to say it's Roethlisberger. He's still the star, still the focal point. And with the intensive emphasis on no-huddle this offseason — especially this week — it'll be his show, maybe more than ever. Which is as it should be. He's earned that license.

But how will it play out?

Will they pound the ball?

That answer should be obvious, given the NFL trend, but it can't be ignored that Todd Haley didn't blink this week when asked the next logical step for his offense: “We have to run the ball better.”

He's right, in fairness. The Steelers ranked 12th in passing yards last season but tied for 27th in rushing yards with a measly 86.4 average. There's clearly more room to improve there, and the maturation of Le'Veon Bell along with the addition of LeGarrette Blount should take care of that. What's more, both men are between-the-tackles types, which could keep defenses honest against the pass.

But Haley's passion for the run — and be sure it's nothing less than that — will be misguided if taken too far. That's true here or anywhere.

“As a line, we'd love nothing more than to just blow out holes for Bell and Blount. Any linemen would,” David DeCastro was saying. “But that's not the game today.”

No, it isn't. Not singularly. The Bills were wonderful at running. Got them to 6-10.

So the Steelers will be built primarily on the pass, right?

Remains to be seen. Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery were replaced at receiver by one reliable player: Lance Moore. And if it's assumed Moore will stay in the slot, where he played most recently in New Orleans, that leaves a critical void at the No. 2 wideout spot opposite Antonio Brown. Moore assured me Thursday he'd have no issue if asked to be No. 2 **— “I've spent a lot of my career outside, and I know I could do it again,” he said — but that's not optimal. It would be far better if one of the others would take it, but the field of Markus Wheaton (finger trouble), Martavis Bryant (too raw) and Darrius Heyward-Bey (too many drops) isn't exactly overflowing with options.

I hate to add this, too, but it's no certainty we'll ever see the pre-knee-injury Heath Miller again.

Ideally, Kevin Colbert will sign another receiver capable of stretching the field. But don't hold your breath on that. There are no imminent signs of Santonio Holmes or anyone else riding to the rescue.

Ask me, and the Steelers should be delighted to maintain their passing rank of a year ago.

What's left, then?

Well, from five weeks out, it sure looks like Haley and Mike Tomlin are painting so many scenarios involving so many people — did I mention fullback Will Johnson as a no-huddle tight end? — in hopes that, even if they aren't great at one thing, they can trick their way to success with a variety of packages, formations, pre-snap motion, you name it.

Which is fine, obviously. The Steelers do have, as Moore put it, an offense that's “pretty versatile, solid all-around, effective at a lot of things,” and every smart football plan involves sleight of hand. But to repeat, as with launching Archer into two tons of defensive linemen, this one comes across as ambitious, even hopeful. It's prioritizing deception over dominance in any one facet. It's pushing for pristine execution. It's requiring adaptability from series to series, week to week. And yeah, it might do all that at the expense of fortifying a real strength, a real identity.

For fun, I asked Archer to label this offense in a word.

“Creative,” he replied without a split-second's hesitation. “I think we're creative.”

Told you he was quick.
