Steelers select LB Travis Feeney Washington

Incredible athlete but 4 shoulder surgeries while in college. Freaky workout numbers, runs a 4,41 forty at 6' 4" tall

Fast and tall. Good person. Rangey, played safety and has cover skills.

Lightweight. Can't set the edge and gets blown off the ball. Run support will be an issue.

Frame may be able to carry more weight. A serious project, but in the meantime should be a special teams maven.

This guy is an animal, with him and Shazier we h=may have the fastest two LBs in the NFL.

I think he worth a late round look. Interesting pick.........

We gotta talk about his film.

First of all, he wasn't asked to rush the passer in Washington's system. He spent at least half his time in coverage.

Takes GREAT angles. Always near the ball. Uses his fellow players and the sideline as leverage.

Rangey in coverage. USC was clearly afraid of him. Look how often plays are run away from him, and mind you he lined up on BOTH sides of the field.

Has no edge rush technique. Gets pressure by simply fighting off the blocker and chasing down the play. If he could learn to bend the edge = DANGEROUS.

Doesn't play as light as weight and scouting reports would indicate. Held his ground against big time football teams that run (Oregon tape also available on Youtube).

Didn't get run over in the run game, but did get pushed out of plays and forced into near misses.

Natural football player with above average instincts.

Better than Jarvis.

Video shows he's got a motor and his second effort is up there as well. I like this pick.

kiss my *** lulz.

Same physical stats, 40 time a bit different. He doesn't fit our LB mold. So wtf is it for. ? if the experiment is ongoing then why grab another.

how yinz reacting it looks like that would be a lot of ***

The D is constantly evolving, but a player doesn't fit our mold.

In the 6th 7th there is obviously a lot of questions. This one comes with speed.

40 time "a bit different"? The difference between 4.5 and 4.8 is not slight. Feeney has big time game speed, and closing burst. He's got cover skills like a safety and snatches interceptions.

Now, you ARE right that he doesn't fit our scheme. He's a bit light in the *** and has no edge bending technique. But these are things that could be improved. Adding 15 Lbs and learning the edge could take time but in the end you could end up with a 6-4 240lb linebacker with sub 4.6 speed that can kill Qbs AND cover Gronk.

Not even close. This guy ran a 4.5 at the combine. Zummy was a 4.7 - 4.8 guy. Zummy was also not a natural and instinctive football player like Feeney.

Ill give ya the speed difference. BUT per NFL.com on Zumwalt ~ Very competitive with a fiery, on-field temperament. Explosive hitter. Throws his body around recklessly and times up the blitz well (disruptive presence). Is around the ball a lot. Very good football intelligence -- lines up teammates and makes adjustments. Versatile and has played all linebacker positions and contributed as a fullback in short-yardage situations. Defensive tone-setter -- has a love for the game and it shows.

perhaps they are getting these guys simply for special teams, and with zumwalt hurt theyre bringing in another .

& slash.. go ahead and put me on ignore. It will be better that way.

Zummy is mean. And I like that too. But his temperament is much more suited to ILB in our system. Outside we need ATHLETES. Dudes who are versatile and fast. Zummy is neither of those things.

Jarvis is garbage. This guy at least gives us something to work with. And remember, Nine Deuce was UNDRAFTED out of Kent state, totally raw, and developed into a 5 time Pro Bowl player who may end up with our career sack record.

I like the pick.

why would I need to put you on ignore, you say something stupid I will just call you on it.

Now go ahead and tell us some more what NFL.com says and how that means one player compares to the next without you studying tape.

I will hang up and listen

hi

A linebacker with the ability to rush the passer and he can cover. Exactly the type of linebacker teams should be looking for. I think you develop this guy as a specialized role player.

Didnt this guy convert from Safety? this is the kind of guy who can add defensive play flexibility if he can play the LB position well... until then big fast special teamers are always needed

Also Feeney has a 40' vert jump, I really doubt that Zumwaldt has near the same explosiveness

A linebacker with the ability to rush the passer and he can cover.

He cannot rush the passer if the USC game is any indication. The only time he got near the QB on the pass rush was when a RB was assigned to block him. When an OT took him on, Feeney was disappeared. it looked like a little kid trying to get past his big brother on the pass rush.

In that scheme, he just wasn't asked to come off the edge full time. He spent at least half his snaps in coverage, and against Oregon in a QB contain stance.

But. He could learn edge technique. He's plenty big enough and plenty fast enough. He's got killer closing burst and takes great angles, so once he learns how to peel OTs, he'll be a nightmare in the passing game. He's a good character dude, so I think he'll work at it.

And remember he'll have Harrison, the original learn-from-scratch prospect, there to show him the ropes. Short term he'll be great on special teams. Long term, he could not only start but star.

Maybe they're also considering moving him back to safety. Interesting pick.
