Steelers sign Herbig to HisBig extension

Exactly! They did the exact same **** ever week for years. No changing **** even when they knew it wasn't working.

An actual scheme per opponent. The players will actually have to use their brains and elevate out of the same ole status quo.

I'm looking forward to something a little more cerebral and tactical. That is my expectation anyway.

The players have made comments on how different t things are / will be.

Someone even said there are No benches at practices.

I’m excited for the viewing of on the field play.

Mike McCarthey has his work cut out for him, but he will make a difference.

ALSO NOTE: Anything is possible but I don’t think we will see a repeat of losing back to nback to 2-10 teams as in the past.

Salute the nation

Next year he will have his highest base of 21 million.

Either Watt or Highsmith get moved at worst next offseason….

Perhaps one gets shipped off so that they aren’t butting heads for playing time.

Far as the money when you don’t have to pay a QB up the ying yang perhaps you can pay three OLBs decent money.

Anywho it won’t be a burden this season at least with the way those extensions hit so if they desire they can hold onto all three for now.

I am not sold that Highsmith was sick the other day so this situation needs watching.
Even at $75 million (instead of the average of 83), the Steelers' 2026 cap hit for three edge rushers is absurdly higher than any other team. Here's the rest of the top 5:

#2 Raiders
56.2
Maxx Crosby 35.8
Malcolm Koonce 11.0
Kwity Paye 9.4

#3 Jaguars
52.2
Josh Hines-Allen 23.4
Arik Armstead 19.4
Travon Walker 9.4

#4 Bears
47.7
Montez Sweat 25.1
Dayo Odeyingbo 20.5
Daniel Hardy 2.1

#5 Giants
46.5
Brian Burns 21.4
Kayvon Thibodeaux 14.8
Abdul Carter 10.3

Plus the Steelers are going to have to hand Porter Jr. a large extension at some point soon. I suppose they're going to sustain it for one season, but it is still way out-of-whack compared with how the rest of the NFL operates.

What is the most important defensive position within the Steelers scheme? Would you say OLBer?

Would you say that it is important their pass rush hits home?

Some times you have to pay to keep premium positions / players.

Yes. Would you say that the Steelers' scheme might look a bit different with an almost entirely new defensive staff?
Would you say that it is important their pass rush hits home?
Yes. I'd also say it's important for any team's pass rush to hit home.

So the cap hit for 2026 evidently is $5.4, which brings our total to 67.5. Would you say that 3 edge rushers are so important that they should be paying out 30% more than 29 other teams do?

Next year that cap number is going to balloon to 88.3. So now we're talking a 45% premium compared to 94% of the rest of the league. Unsustainable. They'll have to get rid of one of these three premium position players anyway.

I think what I'm realizing is that it's TJ Watt's monstrous deal that is handicapping the situation. Highsmith will be the casualty next year, because Watt carries a whopping $52 million in dead cap, and it's unlikely that any team will trade for him at the age of 33 with that bloated contract.

There are ways around this that allow you to retain value within the organization. Read the last page of the QB thread.

So...quoting that entire page means what? That the Steelers can keep these three guys on at $88 million if they go with Drew Allar at QB next year?

No genius, that’s their hyperlink formatting. It’s on the second / last page. It’s in there.

Why don't you simply regurgitate what the hell you're getting at, shitbag? I'm not on a ******* easter egg hunt up in here.

I would say they have the luxury to do that because of the lack of having to pay elsewhere. This year it is sustainable. Next year is next year. They will probably move a player next year.

I also will say they can do various different things with Watt. Trade him next year, tweak his contract next year. Lower the hit. His play will help dictate which avenue they take.

A difficult decision making process but a team that is one of the best at figuring out things financially.

I am not concerned I know the Steelers are fantastic at figuring out the cap. They have a long history of figuring it out and in the process have improved on the way they used to kick the cans down the road.

If the Steelers were one pass rusher short fans would be complaining about that. Count me in as a fan who is glad at the most important position on defense that the depth exists. Not every team has that luxury. I am happy for it as long as it exists. Which looks to be short term..

I’ve been called a lot of things, not that one. It seems excessive. It’s two pages, read the second. It all kind of fits together.
