Outdated and flawed? How is that, exactly? Seems to me that the Texans and Broncos had the two best defenses in the league last year.

The Falcons were second in sacks yet they gave up 401 points, which was 19th...sounds a bit incongruous. I guess their sacks didn't kill the right drives. But they started keeping that stat in 1982, so I guess it must be better.

Yes, gross total yardage allowed is not terribly useful. If your offense stinks and goes 3-out 5 times a game, your D will wear down. If you have a great offense and build leads, teams will pile up useless yards in garbage time.

The 2001 Pats were 6th in scoring defense, 25th in YPG allowed. I'd take that 10 out of 10 times vs. the converse.
