not going to be his first start...but just his 3rd

https://heavy.com/sports/pittsburgh-steelers/doug-marrone-jake-luton-to-start-at-qb-vs-steelers/

Luton—a 2020 sixth-round pick out of Oregon State (189th overall)—made his NFL debut against the Houston Texans on November 8th and completed 26 of 38 passes for 304 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Then he made his second start against the Packers on Sunday, completing 18 of 35 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

“I thought he made a couple of really nice throws,” said Marrone about Luton. “He’s a young guy and he’s coming along. I wouldn’t say it [his performance] dropped down [against the Packers]. With the [windy] conditions the way they were, I’m happy with the way he’s progressing. He’s doing everything he can. I can’t really ask for more.”

But Marrone may need to get more from Luton (6-foot-6 and 224 pounds) if the Jags hope to upset the Steelers, who will be trying to extend a franchise-best start to 10-0.

Packers have a better pass rush than Houston and the Steelers have a better pass rush than the Packers as well as a better run defense.

Two game tapes of this raw QB should be good enough to get the job done.

I hate unknown players... people always get giddy over some backup coming in, and for the most part backups are usually less talented, but there is always the chance that the guy is a gamer who just hasn’t gotten a chance yet.

A lot of coaches follow Tomlins old Pedigree mentality... a guy might be lights out better, but that established vet, high priced free agent or draft pick might still get bumped ahead of him for stupid pride reasons...

That all being said, Butler and Tomlins new defense is much harder to play against than the one we saw a few years back. Its extremely high tempo pressure and isn’t very easy to determine where it’s coming from... hopefully this guy is a bum Who isnt ready and throws three picks....

I remember a few years back we had the upstart patriots on our schedule, and their star QB, Drew Bledsoe, was injured, so they put in their back up. Can't remember his name, but I'm pretty sure he's not on the cheats anymore.

The Jaguars are sizing up a jersey for Lawrence or Fields. They have a lot more to lose by winning this game.

100%. I think the announcers said Ben is something like 24-2 vs rookie QB's.

Teams can tank. Which is why I think the NFL needs a lottery draft system. Just put all the non playoff teams in weighted by record and let it rip. It might be thee only way the Steelers will get the #1 pick in some people's lifetimes. It would also be an exciting day. After Ben retires....its over until we find a franchise level QB.

Jeepers people, this defense has already faced some "PROVEN" QBs and won. There is always this "caution" when facing a new QB but there is a couple of games to look at of him....... The odds of this rookie coming in and lighting up our defense for more points than BEN ROETHLISBERGER is going to light their defense up for is very slim to none. There is such a thing as over cautious and that will lose you games.... Something our coaching staff and players won't let happen.

DON'T LIVE IN YOUR FEARS

IF THE SKY FALLS WE STILL COME OUT OF JAG-OFFS WITH A WIN.

I would be more concerned with their running back.. I would think the Steelers would be ready for a QB that not much is know about especially after the Dallas game.

The problem with league lottery systems is they are rigged. The NBA never shows it, and it is usually more a test of convenience for which teams need the first pick. Shack in Orlando and they barely miss the playoffs. 1 ball, win the lottery. Ohio native LeBron James ready to draft, Cleveland gets the 1 seed. Large market teams are usually prioritized over small market. If they don't show the ball pull, it is bullshit and another way for the league to control the draft outcome. At least now the teams control the outcome.

I'd only be for a lottery system if it is shown live, and all the draft positions need to be pulled.
