Steelers trade for DK

I'm trying to digest this trade.......

So the Commanders get Deebo Samuel for a 5th Round pick and we trade for a guy who IMO is less versatile, has better stats receiving but is pretty much a go route, deep threat WR with better straight line speed. DK has good hands but he is more less a one trick pony with a limited route tree. His best season was 2020 when he had 1303 yds receiving & 10 TD's.

Compare that to Deebo Samuel....a twitch receiver with similar hands and a better route runner who's more versatile running routes. His best season was 2021 when he had over 1405 yds 6 TD's receiving but also added 365 yds & 8 TD's rushing.

They got him for a 5th! And we gave up our 2nd Round Pick (54th overall) for DK Metcalf? I'm sorry this is a bad move for the Steelers! Losing that 2nd round pick for DK Metcalf really hurts! He probably fits Tomlin's passing game philosphy since Tomlin basically refuses to throw in the middle of the field....so now we can watch whoever is QB throw up jump balls down the sidelines outside the numbers because that's Mike Tomlin's passing game!

Mark my words this will become one of the worst Steeler Free Agent signings of the Tomlin Era!

With a young OL in place (and I think they draft a guard late to develop behind Seumalo), it was time to get weapons for the next QB. DK is a legit WR1 and he's locked in. Why would I trade Pickens? The Steelers aren't winning the Super Bowl this year and they aren't going to keep Pickens beyond this season either. He's younger and nearly as productive as DK and will probably command less. They may be able to get a 2nd for him, at least a 3rd. Go out and get a dependable WR like Egbuka who will be here for the next 5 years as well and then get a RB in the 2nd or 3rd.
 
I’m just not sure how I feel about this. Yes we needed someone to pair with George and Metcalf is a proven commodity that’s for sure. I hate giving up premium draft picks but that’s what it took.
I will reserve how I feel about this until after the grand plan comes to fruition. In other words what do we do in FA? What do we do in the draft? Who will we sign as the guy throwing to these two big, talented targets?
You know they have a plan and a fall back plan so I’m waiting to see how it all rolls out.
Have zero idea what the hell they will do at QB. Thought I knew but just don’t know now.
Btw, for those concerned about Metcalf’s request to play in warm weather climate. Just a ploy by him and his agent to negotiate more money and he got what he wanted. 30 mill per season buys a lot of warm clothes.

Samuel is 2 years older and earning about 25M though
 
what if... khan has a trade in the back burner? GP for a 1st? Would that make more sense of this trade? basically swapping GP and a 2nd for Metcalf and a 1st, after this season Pickens is collecting a paycheck similar to that of DK so it might make sense

Deebo has also been injured a lot lately, was over weight, is two years older, and hasn't even sniffed that kind of production in any other year but that one, his one and only 1,000 yard season.

DK, as mentioned is two years younger, has gone over 1000 yards 3 times, and was only 8 yards away from it last year while missing two games.

One is a legit WR1, and for sure a WR2. The other isn't even a WR2, he's a gadget guy that can't stay healthy enough to warrant building an offensive gamelan around his versatility.

A gadget guy? We had another gadget guy a while ago who wore #82 and was pretty damn good! I would have taken him over DK Metcalf every day of the week and twice on Sunday! I just don't think spending $150 Mil on a guy who is a one trick pony is a good investment! They gave up a 2nd round pick in the 2025 draft for him......This is not the Steeler way! You build through the Draft!

That gadget guy we had that was pretty damn good, was also the slot, third option guy. Again, hasn't sniffed anything close to 1000 yards in any season but the one. DK is more than a one trick pony

In addition, there is & will ONLY be ONE DEEBO in PITTSBURGH

Litos, I’m thinking there might be a part B to this trade too. I like pairing these two together but I just don’t see the Steelers paying George like Metcalf. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade if it’s a first for George. That way you pick your new WR and most likely your DT. Idk, there just seems to be like more to this than at first glance. We shall see!
 
Arthur Smith's offense in Tenn was at it's best with AJ Brown. Metcalf is not as good as Brown but he's close. The offense requires a physical WR than can block. That's why they insisted on playing Van Jefferson so much, because he blocked better than the others.

I do wonder if they trade Pickens now. I can't see them signing him long term with this big contract for Metcalf. I bet they could get a 2 or possibly a 1 for Pickens in a draft that doesn't have many top end WRs.

Ahhhh. You don't like the way message boards work I see. They are for opinions and ones views. I simply am a Steeler fan. Not a Tomlin fan. I don't mind you rooting for the same old same old every year with the same losing result. I simply want better results is all. 🤔

Well they are gonna pay one and it won't be free or even cheap. You think they are going into the draft hoping they are going to get a Q. So if you are gonna pay you might as well pay for the one that gets you the best opportunity. Instead they paid a whole hell of a lot for the other half of Dumb and Dumber. Only question is who is who?

I totally believe that with a legit online...this offense will be fire next year with the drafting of a lightning quick RB to mix with Warren, who I think we will resign. The thing that I am totally sick of is not having someone remotely near Munchak getting these OL men playing like monsters. Think about it. Either QB this year could have been somewhat remarkable with some sort of protection.

As I recall Coach & I were basically the only 2 who wanted DK drafted by the Steelers...But he was gone 2 picks before they grabbed DJ...I WAS PISSED

Many here thought he couldn't catch because of his weight lifting...Archaic thinking....

Can you imagine if Willie Stargell had an actual weight lifting program? Willie had no biceps yet cracked 475 homers....My fav player of all-time

I would let Pickens play for a contract, then Tag and trade him in the offseason if he blows up stat wise...
ypu could also draft a project guy and if he works out, deal pickens at the deadline..

To be fair, Coach really wanted Greedy Williams, he was ok with DK Metcalf... but in the first round...
he ended up going a couple picks before we got DJ...the last pick of the Second round iirc.. i think a lot of people were interested in him if he fell to us...
