Over the cap.com has the Steelers at a bit under 14 m under the cap as of today.

No franchise qb on board. That is a bit scary.
I know they can rework contracts and cut players but man that is rough

We won't have a franchise QB contract to wory about for quite some time. Even if we manage to find one in the draft the next few years, or Howard turns out to be the guy, we won't have that huge contract to worry about.

Rodgers played for 10m last year, there will be no Sam Darnold available next year, it'll be a vet this year (Rodgers or Cousins) on a cheap vet deal.

*edit sporttrac has us at just under 20m, and neither site is accounting for the $16m of unused space we will roll over from '25 (hasn't officially been announced is prob why).

But without having a qb shouldn't we be 30 or 40 mill under?

Nope, that's why having that franchise QB is a blessing and a curse, and why so many teams try to cash in while that QB is on the rookie contract. As soon as you have to pay a franchise QB, you lose a lot of players or the flexibility to sign who you want. Right now, Watt carries the largest cap hit, but compared to QB's he's the 11th highest cap hit, and it's 20m less than Tua, Baker, and Murray.

We should
DK and Pittman have a higher combined cap hit than Chase and Higgins.
Let that sink in

Cap hit, not contracts tho. It's how they manipulated the cap.

Chase was 4 years, 161m, 112m guaranteed.

Cap hits are 26m, 33m, 41m, 53m

Higgins was 4 years, 115m, 41m guaranteed

Cap hits are 24m, 26m, 31m, 33m.

Higgins and DK have similar cap hits, one is a WR1 for their team, the other WR2.
Pittman's contact numbers haven't been announced, so we don't know what his hits are. He was set to count 29m for indy, and we redid his contract. So let that sink in...
