Why are Americans today so unable to analyze, counter and argue against failed governmental and economic theories that have impoverished millions and killed tens of millions? In large part because:

You think government run heathcare is crap? Just look at what the govt did to education. It's beyond crap.

They have removed critical thinking. I have read many articles that say that millennials have severe communication issues. Their twitter speak means that that have no grammar, no spelling, and worst of all, no reading comprehension. More and more young people are unable to decipher meanings from the written work unless it is outright stated. They can't detect irony or nuance or sarcasm.

They are removing writing from the curriculum. When i was in school we did have to write all the time. Early they would have us write short stories or try to write poems or haikus. Things like in A Christmas Story. What do you want for Christmas?

Then later there would be book reports. Even math class had the dreaded story problems. There's little of that now in public schools. I believe it's by design. They are teaching people to be dependents, not self sufficient. Don't understand something? Just google it and the approved sources will tell you what to think. Feel free to then pretend they're your own thoughts.

I'm just wondering why -- how I went to a conservative-type school, was fascinated with cap guns and war movies when young & sometimes disliked but ultimately appreciated my school teacher's stern dealings with me -- that I turned out not to be a mass murderer? Craziness.

It's why as a nation, we continue to fall further and further behind. We are more interested in teaching woke stuff than we are teaching the skills kids need to be productive adults and be competitive in the world. Asian kids are in school pretty much all the time, and I promise you they aren't learning about why it's important that Billy has two dads or why it's ok that Chuck is really a girl. Really. The worst part is, the only solution politicians have is to throw more money at it.

Why do you think that after 18 years of public school teaching, I am such a vocal advocate for getting kids out of public schools.
 
Part 2 from Stossel. What’s frustrating is that many people calling for socialism don’t even know what it means. For example, the morons in the commercial in the clip who call government services like the post office, socialism. A government providing some basic services is far differ than the government controlling everything and crushing competition. There is a post office but there’s also UPS and FEdEx and others who compete and do it better.
