The Coronavirus thread

I heard that stimulus checks are about to be distributed via direct deposit. I assume they are just going by the banking info on your last tax return, or do you have to have filed for this year already.

I haven't filed yet. I forgot all about it once the extended the deadline.

How could you possibly know it is? It is conjecture from both sides. Everyone one has their agendas and conspiracy theories. None have can say their right with absolute certainty.
Seriously? That is your answer?

You stated with such certainty that I was "truly overestimating how much something like that is happening", as if you were personally filling out every death certificate in every state in our union, and THAT is your answer to my question?

When you filed your 2018 return, was it direct deposit? Because they'll have it on file. But that's a great question, and not everybody utilizes the direct deposit option. In fact I know a lot of people who don't.

I went on to the IRS.gov website (I have a lot of time on my hands right now) just to see how people can change that if they don't do that particular option, and let's just say it's a clusterfuck if you want your stimulus payment in short order.

I'm ready to pull my damned hair out.

Nancy Pelosi Says Congress Will NOT Reopen In April, Warns Trump Not To Restart Economy

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told Politico Friday that she is considering keeping the House of Representatives out of session longer than the April 20th return-from-recess date, and may not bring Congress back until well into May — and she’s warned President Donald Trump to keep the country under lockdown even longer.

Pelosi is drafting a fourth coronavirus relief package, to be introduced when Congress returns from recess in the spring, but it now appears that trillion dollar aid bill will be indefinitely delayed while she holds her chamber in recess.

Pelosi “signaled Thursday that the House is unlikely to return to session later this month, her clearest indication yet that Congress — like the rest of the country — could remain shuttered for weeks or even longer as the coronavirus crisis continues,” according to Politico.

She also had harsh words for President Trump who has, reportedly, begun the process of convening a second coronavirus task force, this one charged with plotting a course to reopen the country and restart the economy. Trump has said before that he hopes to roll out a plan to lift coronavirus-related lockdowns as early as May first, subject to the advice of several of his top healthcare experts.

“Hopefully we’re going to be opening up …. very, very, very, very soon, I hope,” Trump said Thursday during his daily coronavirus briefing. “We’re going to open up strong, very successfully and I’d like to say even more successfully than before.”

Pelosi wants the country in economic lockdown much longer, she told Politico.

“Nobody can really tell you that and I would never venture a guess. I certainly don’t think we should do it sooner than we should,” Pelosi said. “This has taken an acceleration from when we started this. Little did we know then that at this point, we’d be further confined.”

She also suggested that Trump’s advisors rein the president in if he moves too quickly to restore economic function: “I would hope that the scientific community would weigh in and say, ‘You can’t do this, it is only going to make matters worse if you go out too soon.'”

That’s an odd statement, given that Pelosi and others were still at work even as states declared full lockdowns to prevent or slow the spread of coronavirus. The $2.2 trillion CARES Act — the third coronavirus relief package — was passed just before Congress left Washington, D.C., for their spring recess.

On Thursday, Pelosi, who now says there will be little more than a skeleton crew of Federal legislators in Washington until at least May, stood in the way of an emergency relief bill that would have added $350 billion to the Paycheck Protection Program, a small business relief fund that is swifly running out of cash.

She implied, in her speeches Thursday afternoon, that she wanted the bill brought before the full House and Senate rather than passed by unanimous consent — something that can’t happen unless Pelosi gets all of her own members on the same page and in the same room. Small business owners may now have to wait for months to see additional relief funds.

Like so many Americans, Nancy has obviously increased her rate of alcohol consumption during quarantine.

Not sure how relevant this is to this particular thread, but California is eerily on their game right now. What I mean by that is the state government. What I mean even more specifically is that the day I got laid off, I e-filed my UI application right then & there because I knew it was going to be a disaster with millions of applicants. I've already received response (via regular mail) and should be getting my first payment within five business days. Let's just say I was surprised.

This is weird and new territory for me, and I'm not proud to be accepting anything from the government (but my employer buckled like a ***** and it is what it is). And they're probably so proficient at this because they want their citizens to be reliant on the state!

Like she really needs it. Guaranteed pay, made a questionable move gaining a couple million in the stock market recently, walls, gates, 24-hour armed security and probably a staff that goes out and gets her whatever she wants or needs. But I get your point, you were just making a joke, and I'm picking apart everything it seems like right now. My mind is certainly not in the best place at the moment me thinks.

Sorry brother. Feel like I'm getting to my wits end between what's real, what's not, what the media ******* says, what the neighbor says, what the conspiracy theorist online says, what our lovely politicians say etc. ****.

No you miss the point... we didn’t take action in time... we didn’t even come close... the virus was here for months uncontrolled... its why countries that aren’t doing lockdowns aren’t different from countries that are, but countries that test more and who only count symptom driven deaths to coronavirus deaths have low death rates and the italys and spains and USA seem to have raging issues...

Viruses never reach 100% of tge population... a segment will be naturally immune or resistant... its postulated that thats why the youth is virtually unaffected... they haven’t developed whatever does cause the serious reactions yet...

Do the math... 15% of New york city is 1,290,000 infected... thats a minimum. They have 28,000 people per square mile... an Ro factor of 2 is going to be tripled or worse in that kind of area... and the reality of why viruses death rate peaks isn’t because the virus goes away, its that the initial wave picks off the most vulnerable to it, and they are the ones most likely to be in hospitals already...

Social distancing doesn’t cure it and at the point we were at it just slowed it down a bit... nobody is arguing that they shouldn’t have done it, but rather that now we NEED to open this up before summer so herd immunity can be slowly attained now... we cannot risk waiting for the next flu season to compound that...

You don't know that. That is total conjecture at this point. It could be, but the rising death totals don't quite track with that. I have thought the same thing but there are some flaws in the theory that give me pause looking at the numbers. It is at best a theory.

I can tell you Ohio isn't handling it well. People are losing their minds but the system wasn't built to handle that many at once and people don't understand that. They think they can rebuild the system in a blink of an eye.

**** social distancing. The only time that I kind of do it is at a checkout line where pearl clutches are present and the “stand here” spots are marked with a taped X. Like that even ******* matters...it’s so stupid. I’ve got a date in a couple hours and I’m getting carry out from a restaurant owned by our brown friends to the South, who have margaritas to go. I’m pretty sure there will be no social distancing on said date.

you'll be pullin' your stinky little pud like you do after every date.

I keep saying, we are weeks way from a rebellion.
Nancy is oblivious. She is an idiot.

ruh-ruh-ruh-rebellion??? goooshhhhH!!!!

Well then please explain to me how tge following is All true

Coronavirus has a significant death rate
Coronavirus is extremely contagious
Hundreds of thousands of people from the infected area of china came to New York before the travel ban
We reacted late and didn’t do shutdowns for months after it broke
The numbers are as low as they are...

All of that cant exist simultaneously... its impossible

Also every single well tested closed group like the antibody tests and cruise ships are finding a fairly consistent 15-20% infection rate... same with the early saturation testing in south korea...

Our numbers are limited by the erratic early testing...

The average age for dying from it remained over 80 through mid march, im certain this next month will be the same
The death rate under 45 was a decimal percentage of confirmed cases... the logic isn’t here to keep this going any longer...

Open the damn country up before the societal pushback begins...

So I stated emphatically for impression so sue me. Neither of us still has any way to prove the other wrong at this point. That is the way I feel and have at least anecdotal evidence that it is true. I admit I hold no monopoly on the truth.

Does any rational person believe that Dems wouldn't love to drag out the misery as long as possible to get it closer to the election? I mean it's so ******* obvious you'd have to be an idiot not to see it.

Funny thing is I don’t think it benefits them. It gives Trump the bully pulpit and the only voice to the nation. What is their endgame? Trump keeps one upping them at every turn.

I turned off the news a few days ago (I admit, I check some Twitter feeds like a fiend), but this is something that we could probably say for every election cycle, every year, every time one of those pieces of **** do anything or open their filth mouths. They are so phony, sycophantic, fraudulent & downright criminal -- I don't know how a single person could vote for any one of them at this point in our history.

There might be a couple exceptions, but I'm sure you get my drift.

Because they're consumed by unbridled, unabashed hate. Absolute loathsome hate for a single man. They wish he were dead by either this virus, or a bullet in his head, or absolutely anything at this point unfortunately. It's disgusting but it's also just hurting them more than anything and they're just too guided by their own hate to see anything different. It's craziness but it's what they've become.

From my impressions from hardcore dem family members... they think two things the first is that they will get a 100% vote by mail system in place which they say won’t be about cheating but rather more people who are too lazy to go to the polls to vote, the second is that the country will turn on trump if the economy says depressed through the election...

Though they are just in low level politics, who knows what the braintrust thinks... but they definitely want to draw things out...

I can't find it at the moment either, but isn't it crazy that the biggest killers in the United States (for decades now) have all of a sudden gone almost dormant? Heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease etc. has essentially almost disappeared.

Must be just an incredible coincidence.

Find it dammit!!! lol

I just want to post this now, before the other impeachment inquiry imposes itself; that Trump was negligent on his handling of the Coronavirus (you know it's going to happen).

They won't get mail the election options no way. Barring a total lockdown staying in place longer than I expect(Early May) I don't see it being bad enough for him to lose to Biden. I also don't think he loses to nipple rings either.
