The Coronavirus thread

We are all infected

Coronavirus latest news: Newborn baby is youngest person in UK to be infected

A newborn baby in England has tested positive for coronavirus — the world’s youngest victim.

The child’s mother had been rushed to a London hospital days earlier with suspected pneumonia.

Medics are trying to establish whether the tot was infected during birth, or contracted the virus in the womb.

I just don't consider this whole thing political at all. I know there are a lot of entities on both sides taking pot shots at each other, but I wish we could stay above that.

Our President has not done a BAD job at this. I don't care what anyone says. He is not to blame. He should not be the focal point of this. There are a thousand different decision makers all part of this. From the President down to local school boards to sports commisioners. This is a world wide issue and is not defined AT ALL by left/right ideology. Right-wing governments are acting the same way left-wing governments are acting. Democracies are acting the same as dictatorships. The difference, what little there are, are INSIGNIFICANT.

I mean, Christ, we're complaining school is closing for 2 weeks but then blame China for acting too slowing to quarantine a city as big as New York. And they made that decision in like 4 weeks from outbreak.

The double standards, the pointing fingers, the Monday-morning quarterbacking from our media to many in this thread is crazy. It is what it is. We all have to live with it. The whole world.

Maybe it's just me. I'm not sure I understand. The way I read it sounds contradictory.

You initially said you don't consider this a political issue. But that should go without saying. No one does. As if it's debatable.

The problem is that it's being made into one. You gave examples in the rest of your post.

Here we go!

Trump to Declare National Emergency

President Donald Trump plans to declare a national emergency on Friday over the coronavirus outbreak, invoking the Stafford Act to open the door to more federal aid for states and municipalities

Our President has not done a BAD job at this. I don't care what anyone says. He is not to blame. He should not be the focal point of this.

Problem is, Trump made himself the focal point. Of course he's not responsible for the virus outbreak. Of course there are some positive things he's done, ie his early travel ban on Wuhan, the inter-agency, all-hands-on-deck approach, working with the private sector, etc. Of course he doesn't have a magic wand and can't fix this situation quickly or easily, as there is no such fix.

I think the criticism that's been leveled at Trump has been legitimate and on point. Namely, that his public comments thus far have done more to hurt - than help - the country deal with this. It's the fact his ego has gotten in the way, and how he's tried to downplay this, until he couldn't any longer and was forced to declare a national emergency last night. Maybe now, he can stop with the posturing and get out of the way of having real solutions implemented.

These are not filtered through the media, which you loathe so much. These are simply his words, unedited:

January 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”

February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

February 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”

March 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”

March 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”

March 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”

March 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”

March 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”

March 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

March 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”

March 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”

March 9: “This blindsided the world.”

But what's done is done, can't change any of that. I just hope he let's the experts lead the way from hereon, and doesn't have to take center stage and be in the spotlight 24/7 on this issue.

TDS is the real culprit. This virus comes in contact with something that previous ones did not...TDS. COVID-19 binds to TDS. The result is mass hysteria.

Yeah, TDS is causing countries around the world to shut down schools, theaters, sporting events, close their borders, implement mandatory quarantines et al, disrupting travel, trade and commerce around the globe. It's all about Trump and TDS.

The POTUS says there are very few cases and this will all be over soon, it will magically disappear, people with mild symptoms are working. Then people start to see more and more cases and deaths and quarantines and cancellations. POTUS says tests are readily available and beautiful. Then Fauci says testing is a failure.

Instead of downplaying the situation, Trump should have been warning that precautionary measures would likely need to be taken. Instead of lying about problems, he should acknowledge them. Do you really not see how this induces panic?

What induces panic is the Governor of Ohio and some Doctor going on the news and saying Ohio is gonna have 100,000 infected!

January 11: Chinese state media report the first known death from an illness originating in the Wuhan market.
January 15: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) holds a vote to send articles of impeachment to the Senate. Pelosi and House Democrats celebrate the “solemn” occasion with a signing ceremony, using commemorative pens.
January 21: The first person with coronavirus arrives in the United States from China, where he had been in Wuhan.
January 23: The House impeachment managers make their opening arguments for removing President Trump.
January 23: China closes off the city of Wuhan completely to slow the spread of coronavirus to the rest of China.
January 30: Senators begin asking two days of questions of both sides in the president’s impeachment trial.
January 30: The World Health Organization declares a global health emergency as coronavirus continues to spread.
January 31: The Senate holds a vote on whether to allow further witnesses and documents in the impeachment trial.
January 31: President Trump declares a national health emergency and imposes a ban on travel to and from China. Former Vice President Joe Biden calls Trump’s decision “hysterical xenophobia … and fear-mongering.”
February 2: The first death from coronavirus outside China is reported in the Philippines.
February 3: House impeachment managers begin closing arguments, calling Trump a threat to national security.
February 4: President Trump talks about coronavirus in his State of the Union address; Pelosi rips up every page.

Our schools just added an extra week to spring break that just startes today. 2 weeks at home..just ******* shoot me now.

Lol, if the kids being home for 2 weeks is going to kill you I am afraid you are in big trouble. Everything I am hearing at our school and schools in the surrounding 3 states are all making serious plans for being closed out for the next 2 and a half months. Somebody in charge of our district told me off the record, "There is no ******* way we are coming back in 3 weeks. We are most likely done for the year." We might have to send a team of mental health professionals to your house for you.

Our school district is out for 4 weeks. The 4th week is our scheduled spring break. I am hoping that will be it.
Where is the toilet paper!?!?!?

Not sure if this has been talked about but what happens to California and New York when this hits their homeless population? They are so ill prepared to handle such an epidemic and what do the bleeding hearts do when all the hospital beds are full of homeless while the people who are paying for it are dying at home or in the hallways. If it gets bad do they start making decisions on life by who actually contributes to society?

They better hope the weather plays a part in this and California warms up quickly. New York is probably ******.

They're home enough. Christmas break wasn't that long ago...haha. It's in jest dude. My best comes when things are the worst. We are a family of 6. A 3 year old madman.muscle baby house wrecking play machine. A 15 year old 6 foot monster and growing fast, who eats enough for 3 grown men. An 8 year old girl who is sweet and eats like a tweety bird does keep wildman busy. A 12 year old girl who is full cheerleader diva and is OCD to the 10th power.

My mental health is good...haha. It's the rest of the country that's gone full window licker. The toilet paper thing is proof.

I grew up on a farm with my closest neighbor a mile away. I am totally cool with isolation for as long as it takes. If it comes to that.

And all these a-holes wearing masks. They do no good unless the wearer has the virus.

They are only meant to capture water vapor each time you exhale...When you exhale you emit invisible vapor droplets, we know this when we exhale on a mirror or glass.

A surgeon wears this mask to protect the patient, not himself. Patients are at a high risk for contracting an infection in an operating room.

Pssh my Steeler bar has 2.25 beers all day everyday and a smoke my fat cigars there too

I think there are only 3 places left in the whole area that have inside smoking at the bar allowed

The American Legion used to let us vape but tobbacoists got pissed and ****** that up, voted us out too, jealous ********

We still get pitchers of Yeung For $8 but the big wigs came in say we too cheap on draft prices so they might **** us there, but we built a $50,000 room addtion as a smoking lounge, its where all the cool kids hang out now, and all the bartender girls smoke, so just ******* wait your turn now while she takes a break because you made us nonsmoking at the bar *******

What is the fascination with more testing? Why do people think that is so important? So now they'll be able to confirm who has it and who has a different strain of flu, how does that change anything? Confirmation of infection doesn't determine what treatment is given, so why waste money and time on making and running tests?

If someone has the symptoms, including fever, just assume they have it and act accordingly. Worst case is that they have a different illness and you're preventing them from spreading THAT, which is also good. Save the billion$ we'll be wasting on tests to confirm something that has no bearing on the course of treatment.

The only reason to test would be to determine who to quarentine, and not.

It more infectious and deadly because humans have zero immunity to it because its NEW and NOT 'the flu'

What part of Infectious dont u understand?

Its not about treating YOU after getting sick its about protecting others by identifying the infected and keeping you away from us normal healthy people

Christ I take back all my previous commentary. If I had 4 kids including little ones I would be petitioning schools to get back into session immediately.
