The Coronavirus thread

Results: Earlier mask mandates were not associated with lower total cases or lower maximum growth rates. Earlier mandates were weakly associated with lower minimum COVID-19 growth rates. Mask use predicted lower minimum but not lower maximum growth rates. Growth rates and total growth were comparable between US states in the first and last mask use quintiles during the Fall-Winter wave. These observations persisted for both natural logarithmic and fold growth models and when adjusting for differences in US state population density. Conclusions: We did not observe association between mask mandates or use and reduced COVID-19 spread in US states. COVID-19 mitigation requires further research and use of existing efficacious strategies, most notably vaccination.

This thing was always going to run its course. It will takes its place with the other viruses we live with. Booster shots every year. Nothing is going to change that.

And it's not a vaccine, it just knocks the edge off when you eventually get sick from it. Those with strong immune systems and blood types will always be fine.

All of this immune system weakening through seclusion and mask nonsense has done us no favors. It just delays the inevitable and weakens the population both mentally and physically.

Wait...Bangladesh? The company I used to work for had offices in that shithole and anytime there was a network issue it would take days or even weeks to sort out. So I'm supposed to trust that a group of people who haven't figured out a closed sewer system and cant run simple cabling effectively figured out that masks do indeed, work?

Hmmm. Let me think about this.

They studied on average 567 people per village. Per RURAL village.

Now Floggy do be say cases are more likely to be spread in urban areas. You know, people ride on subways shoulder to shoulder, walk shoulder to shoulder down streets, eat next to each other in packed restaurants, shop in crowded retail locations, etc.

So I'm a scientist and I wanna track whether or not masks work, so I set up my test and location. To track the spread of COVID through masks, I find a RURAL, sparsely populated area to do so. Now THAT will help me to skew the results in the way I want them to go. No, I won't set it up in London or Helsinki or Los Angeles. I'll find a 3rd world country and use remote, rural villages. Brilliant!

What's next, put 10 people in Antarctica, put them as spread apart as possible, have them wear masks and track the spread so I can say "Voila! See they work!"
