The Coronavirus thread

A little perspective. Italy, the current hot spot, has a population of about 60,550,000. They have 24,747 confirmed cases (0.04%) and 1,809 deaths (0.003%).

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html

The interesting thing about all of this is that we have no way of knowing how many people are actually carrying the virus, because in many they are asymptomatic.
There are a lot more people walking around with this than we know of.

S&P 500 loss today, down -10.31%

GREATEST PERCENTAGE LOSS SINCE 1929

Not could, IS

Because the sheep are scared shitless by all the overreaction and hype. The market will bounce back once this is proven to be speculation-based. For **** sake, they're talking about cancelling the Indy 500 over this. It's pure bullshit.

They are mobilizing the National Guard in Broward County

Shut down all roads leading out of South FL, I-95, @I-10, Toll roads, I-95, keep the infected from spreading

Trump: 'Take It Easy. Just Relax.'

And he is one of us "target" group

As of this writing, there are 63 deaths in the U.S. due to coronavirus, 40 of which are in Washington State. The vast majority of the Washington deaths involved patients at a skilled nursing facility in Kirkland, elderly and with underlying medical problems.

Overall, the coronavirus is quite selective as to whom it kills. From the New York Times: “Among the people in the United States who have died from coronavirus, almost all have been in their 70s, 80s or 90s. The youngest known fatality was a man in his 40s.” Unlike other viral epidemics, coronavirus is not killing the young and healthy

So yes we are seein' a Boomer Remover" movement after all.....just don't expect them to win any singing contests as long as they keep using AB as a mixing consultant.

The big question is, how long will it take before we have enough of the isolation, and say **** it, I am going to get my life back. There will be a break even point, between a declining infection rate, and the panic we are now experiencing. That will be the time when we emerge from isolation, and rejoin the human race.

Our local grocery store here, Frys (Kroger), is usually open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Last night they closed at 10 PM because the shelves were decimated and they couldn't keep up stocking them.
They reopened at 6 AM this morning, and there were over 200 people waiting to get in. Yeah, people are stupid, and is anyone surprised?

And that will be the reason why we may end up like Italy.
People in a panic when the government tells them to not panic and be courteous.

I’m not worried about actual virus.
It’s how contagious this thing is. Who knows, maybe our citizens have better immunity than italy.
But given we’re dealing with a mutated form of pneumonia I do not want to take that chance.

Next couple weeks will be telling.
Stay safe out there SNers. There are some truly stupid people

How many times you going to post that same bullshit article?

As you say, until nitwits read it and listen to him. Until you stop panicking like this is some episode of The Walking Dead and instilling more fear in the 12 people that read this site.

You're behaving just like Tibs. I don't like Dr. Drew, so la la la la la la la, I won't listen.

Dr. Drew is an internist, not just an addiction doctor.

Dr. Drew received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his M.D. from the University of Southern California, School of Medicine, where he remained for his residency. He then became Chief Resident at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. Dr. Drew is a Diplomat of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also a fellow with the American College of Physicians (FACP). He has been appointed to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and serves on the Board of Directors for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Come on I have to be on Spikes side here. That is an asinine comparison

Hallelujah!

I am your shepard

There is still hope for humanity, us survivors that is, all the rest of you Flu Bros will be sacrificed, I'm afraid

listen to Dr. Fauci

Absolutely, listen to Dr Fauci

Dr. Fauci explains why coronavirus is worse than flu

“One, it’s brand new so we don’t have any prior experience about what it’s gonna do, what it’s dynamic’s gonna be,” he said. “Number 2, it spreads very easily, there’s no doubt about that. It isn’t like some of the other outbreaks that we had that just didn’t adapt itself to spread among humans. And Number 3, it’s very serious in the sense of morbidity and mortality,

Regular flu stats DONT MEAN ****

This NEW virus could kill hundreds of thousands in the next few months!

NO immunity, NO vaccine, Dr Druci says a million deaths possible in this outbreak

The irony is that all the "coulds" and "what if's" are doing much to weaken the immune system. Much like the big guns of the Navy softening up the beaches for the assault force.

Creating bad vibrations as it were. Just wait until the 5G High Frequency towers go up in America as they first did in Wuhan, Italy, Iran, and Soko 5G rollout.

This is much more a battle for the mind and brainwaves, than it is an existential threat from a virus. The virus to date isn't causing the problems in America. The panic is.

During the run up to the Gulf War, the Pentagon still suffered from a fear of a meatgrinder after the trauma of Vietnam. There were projections upwards of 50,000 dead or more in planned assault to dislodge Saddam from Kuwait. An astute Israeli intelligence officer is reputed to have told an American counterpart, "you have shipped too many body bags to the theater, and not enough MP and POW handling capability." Similarly, we are hardwired to either assume the worst or stick our head in the sand. The truth is almost always somewhere in the middle.

Or perhaps the authorities, as Fauci intimated, would always rather err on the side of giving too much animation to the bogeyman than not enough. That way, when the battle is won, the people have a collective euphoria and trauma bond with their leaders and authority much like a battered wife.

Perhaps we're too worried about ventilators, when we should be more worried about all these idle people put on mandatory leave with time and social media on their hands.

Or to quote Mark Twain, "I had a lot of trouble in my life, and most of it never happened."

BOOMER REMOVER

Trending on twitter as teenagers calling coronavirus higher mortality rates as way of getting rid of old people

******* idiot teenagers can't even coin a good nickname. It ought to be "Boomer Doomer". You have to do EVERYTHING for these young' uns.

Why aren't you on a cruise to Italy?

Get going sailor!

LOL

I checked airfare to Italy in June. Still pretty high, but I bet that will change soon. I wouldn't get on a cruise ship even before this horseshit started.

There's a local press conference at 2:30 today. Word is that our weak Gov is going to close bars and restaurants for two weeks. Bastages!! We are going to pay our employees through the end of the month and then re-evaluate. They'll take a big hit though because tips are most of their income.

Spike, so you're saying Fauci has essentially come out and said this is a global extinction event?

I guess I just don't see it that way.

BTW, while the Indiana government is clutching their pearls and closing everything down in hysterical panic, the death toll from the virus here is...wait for it... ZERO!

What I feel really badly about is all the people / businesses like Tibs' that are going to go under due to hysteria.

Government is in a ****** position. If you DON'T act a fool and shut down every single business and activity in your state, well - if people get sick you are ****** next election cycle... On the other hand, shut everything down and unemployment goes through the ******* roof and next election cycle you're ******.

Honestly, this hysteria is going to completely **** up the economy for a good deal of time, not due to the markets (which will bounce back as soon as wealthy folks start buying low-cost stock) but because of the massive number of layoffs that will occur due to the entire ******* service and education community being shut down for extended periods of time.

All those teachers, all those secretaries, all those waiters/waitresses, hotel maids, chefs, bartenders... every single one of them on unemployment... It's a ******* democrat dream.

And does it strike anyone as weird that China, a place with the 2nd largest world population and the epicenter for the outbreak has pretty much the lowest impact rate in the world? Hmmmm. Just sayin'...

This entire thing is utter media over-reaction bullshit.

Should we utilize social-distancing? Sure. Do we need to shut down our entire ******* economy? Jesus. Seriously?

As I said. When the U.S. death rate due to covid passes 1 million, we can start to be concerned. For us to have the panic that Italy is facing we'd have to lose what... 20 to 30 million people before we hit that 7%.

(Ya, I know. That's a bullshit number. Italy has seen 7% (apparently based on panicked news reporting) mortality rate among people confirmed with covid. Obviously 1300 deaths is NOT 7% of Italy's population. However it goes to show how stupid this overwhelming panic is.

If you're sick. Stay home. If you can't break your 103 degree fever after a few days and if you're having respiratory issues as well, THEN go to the doctor. Until then, stay home, drink fluids and rest. That's what they'd do for you anyway.

That is 7.3% death rate among confirmed cases, that is horrific compared to the flu.
The flu stats are extrapolated based on historic experience and seasonal variation.

The Covid numbers are based on a small subset where tests are given to those likely to have the virus/flu in Italy. Of course the death rate will be higher because of the smaller denominator.

Above you took Indy to task on stats, then decided to use the ones you liked?

All the stats now will need revision later to account for sampling biases.

And can we all just enjoy the delicious irony of the fact that only Joe Biden and global warming can save humanity from extinction?

Greta must be freaking the **** out!

BTW, while the Indiana government is clutching their pearls and closing everything down in hysterical panic, the death toll from the virus here is...wait for it... ZERO!
Yes, but according to Spike, by Weds it will be somewhere in the ballpark of 32 trillion.
