The Coronavirus thread

Sniffling snot blowing children are a bubbling stewpot of diseases and the poor coronavirus just cant get its foot in the door

over the past few months, my company was discussing working from home. with this coronavirus, it expedited things. Now I have a work-issued laptop for working from home.

what we need now is a virus that will increase people's pay.

Euthenasia?

Definitely.

******* old people should be banned from traveling to China, we just had a possible case turn up in Pensacola

Meh every firsthand report from survivors paint this as a mild flu... again unless something comes down the pike that is airborne and lethalto over 5% of healthy people infected, I am nonplussed... waste of energy on this one...

China now has discharged patients dying from reinfections, everyone infected stays infected? till it kills u, like TWD

i read that regular flu has a 0.5% mortality rate and corona virus has a 3% mortality rate. so it's worse but it's not the black plague.

True. But they think that a lot of people have had this for a while and when those numbers come in, that 3% should go down significantly. Its still dangerous though because its a fairly new strain and especially new to our immune systems. And add in the fact that you can get it again after getting over it is concerning, especially if it mutates a third time. Its already mutated twice an L series which is worse than the current strain and a S series that isn't as bad. Thankfully they are finding more of the S series than the L series at this point.

5 Florida residents who traveled to China test positive for coronavirus

Man over the age of 70 in Santa Rosa County also tests positive for COVID-19

The governor said all patients are being quarantined, but he did not disclose their locations.

He said the public health risk to Florida remains low.

“Now, they’re not going to be released from quarantine until they test negative so we don’t anticipate that having any impact on the people actually living in Florida,” DeSantis.

So China made a designer virus developed to cull old people? It certainly seems to not be affecting young children at all.

And lets not forget that all these odds are skewed because
A. Most people don’t go to the doctor for flu like symptoms
B. These deaths are pretty much from pneumonia, and many will be attributed to that and not the virus that started it...

If i was going to go on a wild and baseless tangent....My personal conspiracy theory would be that it was intentionally released in a country where the health care standard is lower and the population is high knowing it was going to cause a worldwide panic, tank the economy a little, and give people fresh targets to use in an election year...

I mean both left and right wing conspiracies both have basically agreed its man modified, and it amazingly showed up near a Chinese bio weapon lab... convenient if you want an obvious scapegoat.... and it isn’t super lethal either...

The timing is almost too perfect

Wait till they come up with one designed to kill only black people, or was that AIDS?

its a virus. It never goes away.

What kind of monkey gibberish is that?

Once you get a cold or flu it never leaves you?

I think what he means is the virus is here to stay. Just like the Spanish Flu we experience here every year. That Flu is the same Spanish Flu that wiped out huge swaths of population in 1918.

No. It's truth. Viruses do not die. They are either active or dormant.

"Strictly speaking, viruses can't die, for the simple reason that they aren't alive in the first place. Although they contain genetic instructions in the form of DNA (or the related molecule, RNA), viruses can't thrive independently. Instead, they must invade a host organism and hijack its genetic instructions."

I remember reading the book The Hot Zone about the ebola virus. They discussed how ebola will never die. It's a virus. Viruses need hosts. When the virus's host dies, the virus goes dormant. Say a healthcare worker touches the dead body, the virus "could" become active with that healthcare worker, the host. Or not, depending on the immunity of the host and a thousand other reasons.

I could have ebola, walk into a cave and scrape my finger on a rock. Leaving the virus on the rock. It won't die, it will just go dormant. If another human comes along and scrapes their finger on that rock, the virus could embed itself in that human and become active again.

The flu and other viruses come back year after year and mutate. They don't die. We can become, as humans, more resistant to them. The viruses morph over time. They don't go away.

It's now hit my county. Damnit. I'm an asthmatic and prone to pneumonia and in my fifties. Bless these old souls who thought it wise to travel overseas.

Maryland Confirms 3 Coronavirus Cases, As COVID-19 Spreads In Other States

As COVID-19 spreads in the U.S., Maryland health officials are the latest to announce that a handful of Montgomery County residents have tested positive for the virus that causes it.

Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday said the state's Public Health Laboratory in Baltimore confirmed three cases of patients who tested positive for the coronavirus.

"They include a married couple in their 70s and another individual in their 50s," Hogan said in a news conference.

In all three of the cases, the disease was contracted in overseas travel. "They're in good condition. They're in quarantine and a thorough investigation is underway to fully determine any of their potential recent interactions with the public," Hogan explained.

"We have been actively preparing for this situation over the last several weeks across all levels of government," he added.

On Wednesday, three girls from a Jewish school in Baltimore were sent home early "because they may have come in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus," The Baltimore Sun reported.

Officials said the school is taking precautionary steps to keep children safe by disinfecting the school.

Hogan urged residents "not to panic, but to take this seriously and to stay informed as we continue to provide updates."

Meanwhile, our school system will remain open. I have kids in school. Yay!

Maryland declares state of emergency

Washington State declares state of emergency, multiple school closings beginning

California declares state of emergency. Cruise ship with 2500 passengers being held offshore.

Buy bleach stock while you can

The facts are it took SARS 8 months to infect 8000 people, this virus has infected 80,000 and killed over 3000 in 8 weeks.

The truth is nobody knows how this will end up.

Time to bring back this classic.....
