The Coronavirus thread

I think we should ship all our infected to Toronto

I am in perfect tip top heart health shape, perfect BP and labs too, just had my annual checkup

If that's the case, why are you freaking out over the Coronavirus?

Melissa Francis: 'Overreaction' to coronavirus will have larger economic impact than virus itself

https://www.foxnews.com/media/melissa-francis-coronavirus-overreaction-economic-impact

Sent from my SM-N950W using Steeler Nation mobile app

In November the talking point is either going to be how Trump bumbled things by following the exact same procedures the past few administrations have used for epidemics, or how he caused this massive overreaction... its going to be one or the other....

"I'm from the Government and I'm here to help." You all are still looking to the Government, who can't fix public transportation (Amtrak), run a postal service without it being perpetually bankrupt, or fix healthcare....to fix Coronavirus.

Got it. Government IS your religion. Despite it's never-ending failures and lack of successes.

Trump on 2/26/20: “When you have 15 people and soon you’ll be down to zero, I say you’ve done a pretty good job.”

That IS your God and Pandemic response team.

The President looked and sounded a little under the weather last night. Wouldn't that be a turn of events? Not that we'd know, they would put his stunt double in the oval office while he recovered.

C’mon, Trump and his administration are a hot mess dealing with this thing. It’s one thing for them to have to clarify and correct Trump after impromptu remarks, it’s quite another when they have to do it immediately after a scripted, nationally televised speech.

Same reason he probably freaked about the past few outbreaks... it’s entertaining ....

Bullshit, I am the very voice of sanity and reason around here

This is NEW

Influenza has been around for hundreds or thousands of years, generations of humans have built up immunity against variations of it throughout history. THIS virus is 3 months old, humans have zero resistance to it, thus the high death rate and commicability.

It come from a completely different family of viruses than the flu, and seems to trigger a massive immune response in some people, leading to rapid death. Nobody has all the answers because its NEW.

NOTHING can prevent it, we have no vaccine against it and no specific medical treatment to fight it. Its all supportive care.

Corona viruses are zoonotic, they come from animals, there are 4 other varieties of coronavirus, this one is NEW, its not the FLU.

No immunity, high communicability, no vaccine, no specific treatment, no drugs that can save you, and no idea what happens if/when it mutates. NOT THE FLU

What the hell are you babbling about

All on point, Spike. Really puzzling to me how so many are still resistant to the facts regarding this. It's as if they're scared to call a spade a spade because they're hearing something entirely different eminating from Trump, and are fearful of going against him. That has got to be the dumbest thing ever. But again, these are the same folks who've stood with Trump over the past three years ignoring his constant lying and bullshitting on matters large and small. I guess after this much time, the brain becomes conditioned and numb to it.

Which is a dangerous place to be, with lives at stake.

If that's the case, why are you freaking out over the Coronavirus?

Spike lives in,,,let's call it a "home". He gets internet privileges like all the other residents in here, but when he sees them coming down the hall towards the communal Radio Shack computer, he starts going crazy, waving his cane all about and yes even soils himself. So the others on his wing pretty much leave him alone to carry on about the Steelers, government and the high cost of boner pills.

He's obviously very concerned about the virus running rampant throughout the home as we all are and this is his way of coping. It's just Spike being Spike....

Excuse me, I have to run, it's medication time and Spike will double up on meds occasionally if you're not careful. :)

I am here to scare all you anti-vaxxer fags straight

Coronavirus x-rays show terrifying damage in lungs of Covid-19 victims

Doctors have been able to identify specific abnormalities caused by Covid-19 and the patterns are similar to those found in patients from the SARS and MERS outbreaks.

The scans show patches in the lungs and the experts' findings could lead to a quicker diagnosis and help to prevent infections.

The first British person to catch the flu-like illness had previously told how it hit him "like a train" and left him "suffocating" and in blinding pain for weeks.

Trump is losing in a landslide

Heading to WV today for weekend ski trip. No CV fears there. Polio, TB, Ricketts, yes but not CV. I'll be able to take off my double layer toilet paper protective suit and live again...At least for 3 days. :)

Once more... we have a worse case scenario experiment in the quarantines that play out the same way with the exception of the few retirement home cases...

Look at the cruises quarantined... where everyone was tested... 18% contagion rate... 1% death rate... and that with everyone locked in a fixed location and having some exposure...

This isn’t outbreak... its the Chinese tried to lie about numbers to keep from spooking the world and when cases started showing up elsewhere at different rates than the expected models based on china’s 1% contagion rate people panicked

Yeah it has a higher chance to cause viral pneumonia than flu, but not extremely high outside of old people.. and yes as with all pneumonia it can cause scarring and other infections...

America probably already is saturated... if they go back and test pneumonia deaths the past few months, there probably already were coronavirus deaths... it’s possible that up to 100,000 people already have it here and that was leading to the higher than normal flu season...

Again and again... this is straight up panic mongering... the exact thing these exact sources were advocating against in every past epidemic... its just gathering political points for the election...

And **** trump.. I could care less if he wins or not... I'm still not voting for either of those parties ever again... but he closed travel and started quarantines in a way that made sense where Bush and Obama didn’t have the balls or brains to do in past occurrences...
Yes i still want a earlier comprehensive testing program when this **** happens... but ee did exactly the same thing in the past half dozen epidemics so really its not some new stupidity...

For 90 to 95% of people who get it, it will be no symptoms or mild flulike symptoms
For 5 to 10 it will be pneumonia.. 1/20 to 1/5 of those people may die and thats dependent on age and health...

In a worse case scenario where it has an 18 to 20% contagion rate... thats about the same as the H1N1 outbreak... up to 60 million people will get it in this country over the next year... lower estimates based on spread factors and contagious diseases typically dropping off the next six months lower that to 20 or 10 million... or it could simply peter out altogether... its hard to say...

Hysterical fearmongering isn’t any better than ignoring it altogether... now a bunch of people with a cough or sniffles ate going to overreact and go to the hospital and potentially get this for real...

West Virginia is a safe zone JMM, no infected there, look at the map, a country boy will survive

The term of the day is "flatten the curve", which makes sense.

Look, I'm not as far out as Spike right now but there IS a method to this madness right now as much as it is killing the economy. And it was a last resort.

This isn't about human life toll. This disease isn't going to kill millions or even probably more than normal other recent outbreaks or seasonal influenza. But the danger is if it spreads TOO quickly, it can overwhelm the infrastructure to treat those that are treatable.

So all these extreme measures are not necessary to prevent people from getting sick EVER, but to slow down the virus enough so that healthcare can be ready.

As extreme as Italy looks, this isn't about the fact the "virus is everywhere" but to prevent their hospitals and nurses and doctors from getting swamped with people. Because the panic is real and people will go searching for treatment even when they probably shouldn't.

This is kind of new. I can't remember a contagion that is scaring the "infrastructure" of healthcare as much as this one. They are legitimately worried they can't handle the onslaught of patients if they just "let this go" like we do with influenza. And, again, for a small segment of the population, this is a very serious illness that is aggressive and dangerous. Once it gets into your lower lungs or shortness of breath, you HAVE to see a doctor. If it remains flu-like: fever, aches, malaise, cough... then you are likely okay - fluids, ibuprofen, rest, healthy diet. But if you get bronchitis symptoms - rattly cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing along with fever - don't **** around.

Dims like Tibs and Flog want over-the-top hysterics from "this administration".

Instead of being calm and collective, not trying to throw out a bunch of **** and cause needless upheaval in peoples' lives (such as what Tim pointed out) and let science take the lead in how to deal with this. This isn't the AIDS virus. Nor is the The Black Plague. Hell, for that matter, I don't recall either of you losing your **** over H1N1.

For ****'s sake, Kasich has joined Gavin Newsome to say the Trump administration is doing everything they've promised to do. Do recall that your duly elected President asked for $2.5 billion to prepare for this, find a cure and send out test kits only to have that ****-canned by your dipshit Dim pols as saying Trump doesn't have a plan - then they turn around and increase the money to $8.3 Billion. And here we are, with you dipshits saying not enough is being done.

Delaware got their first case yesterday afternoon. A university professor who got it in another state. He is in quarantine.

Again, the fact that the majority of people will have no symptoms or mild symptoms is terribly problematic and NOT because they might seek medical attention.

I'm not as far out as Spike right now .

and as usual, I am WAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE

This thing has JUST BEGUN, give it another 2 weeks and we'll have a better idea how it will shake out

Right. AIDS is easily preventable. You’re not going to get it from touching a door handle and then your face.

correct, dipshit. and if you recall the AIDS scare when it first hit, NBA players were not going to play basketball with Magic Johnson due to hysterics from the media. so why don't you calm your little *** down and stop feeding into the panic?
