The Coronavirus thread

Yeah, I do, that's part of it. I also watch and listen to Trump with my own eyes & ears. As I do his cabinet members and the various experts who give interviews and testify at congressional hearings, for example.

that's a lot of eyeball time on the screen when you manage so many restaurants.
pray tell, you were asked earlier - what are YOU - the manager of so many restaurants in Hungary personally doing to prevent the spread of this? you have a responsibility to society.

With all due apologies, you're nuts if you think the media skewers or influences my opinion of Trump and the job that he is doing.

I also think you're nuts if you're not questioning Trump right now. He's been distorting the facts from day one, twisting in the wind trying to control the messaging on what is happening, and has clearly failed doing so.

So go ahead and blame the media and blame those critical of Trump. Hold their feet to the fire. By no means should you make an honest assessment for yourself of how this President is handling this situation.

but...

On January 30th while Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler and Chuck Schumer were literally trying to impeach President Trump; on that very day President Trump was assembling a task force in advance of his authorization for HHS Secretary Alex Azar to declare a proactive national health emergency.

As I do his cabinet members and the various experts who give interviews and testify at congressional hearings, for example. It's a pretty unanimous view that the Trump adminstration has done too little too late dealing with covid-19. But that's the past, what's important is things get ramped up, testing kits get out there in earnest, and further steps are taken to mitigate a situation which seems to be escalating. The best thing Trump could do right now is step back and let the vested, experienced public health experts communicate to the general public, Dr. Fauci for example and those at the CDC.

We're dealing with an unprecedented situation, may have to shut operations down as early as next week. We've doubled cleaning of restaurants, introduced more stringent personal hygiene measures for staff, have hand sanitizers at counters for customers, kept anyone feeling ill off the schedule, to name a few. We already have pretty tight policies as far as employees always wearing gloves when handling food, regularly washing hands with disinfectant, cleaning policy, etc. The problem of late is the city is close to shutting down, hotels are at 20% capacity, tourists have simply stopped coming. We still have a fair share of customers, so we're doing better than most. We also have a robust home delivery service which remains strong. Who knows how long any of this will last. We are working out contingency plans, may have to make some tough decisions soon. No sign of any type of support or bailout for hospitality sector from government thus far, this thing could get ugly in a hurry. Knocking on wood we can somehow remain in business for the foreseeable future, but nothing is guaranteed.

Hey FBF, are ya feeling it yet? All of those of you that have fallen for this hook, line, and sinker, do you feel it yet? Ever heard the term sheeple? Y’all did it, y’all fell for it, y’all made their experiment easy. You didn’t question the situation, the media, or the so-called experts that fed the hysteria. In just a couple of days, the government took control of sporting events, telling you where you can and can’t go, and getting professional sports to shut down their seasons. Just imagine, the financial losses to the stadiums, the hotels, the restaurants where these venues were scheduled. But, you did it, you swallowed the kool-aid.

Survival rates for this virus, if you’re under 60 is 99.7%. We had the swine flu and bird flu, each of which carried a mortality rate of 18-30%: did we shut down the country for those? Let me assure you, we DID .....NOT. We had SARS and EBOLA, both much more deadly than COVID-19, did we shut down the country for them? We emphatically DID......NOT!

You see how easy it was for them when you’re not paying attention. We must always be vigilant about what the government tells us, and question when it doesn’t sound right. It requires sheep dogs to be aware, to watch over. I promise this is just a test. I promise the next time it will be worse, and I can assure there will be another. The govt just found out how easy it was, how easily you rolled over, how thoroughly you drank of the Kool-Aid. THIS is how governments take over. We MUST remain vigilant. We MUST be independent thinkers, and we MUST stand in the gap.

You see how easy it was??????

You must have your head in the sand. The media-fueled, non-stop coverage and panic is leading to all sorts of rash behaviors leading to masks not being available for medical personnel, stores being emptied, and markets collapsing. Just to mention a few.

Again, this is a MAJOR event. My heads in the sand? Rex Tillerson’s ******* Moron is about to declare a National Emergency after weeks of downplaying the crisis. Seems the media coverage was warranted. Where is your criticism of Trump?

You can’t blame the media for people acting irrationally. Can you show where they urged people to stockpile water and toilet paper? Pinsky says listen to Fauci? The man is constantly being covered by the media, TV, internet, newspapers. Tell Trump to listen to Fauci!

I would argue having an incompetent, bumbling fool give erratic, confusing and contradictory statements over the span of weeks and months accounts for the 'binge shopping' as much as anything the media may be doing or reporting.

Same with the stock markets. They're not reacting based on how the media is reporting this pandemic.

You Liberals have been running around here saying that Trump told the world we have 15 cases and it will soon be zero......... Now you claim his words are driving people to binge shopping, that he's inciting panic?

Folks, you can't make this **** up. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Trump to declare national emergency over coronavirus

President Donald Trump plans to declare a national emergency in response to the coronavirus outbreak to speed relief to affected Americans, administration officials said Friday.

Senior officials confirmed to ABC News and NBC News that Trump will make the announcement during a 3 p.m. EDT news conference.

Aaaannnnnnd argument over. Thanks for yet another win.

Flogged: "How is the media making it worse than it is?"

TSF: Posts countless examples from a variety of sources that specifically explain how the media is fueling the panic that leads to the ransacking of stores and the overall panic this country is under.

Flogged replies: The media hysteria is warranted.

[game over]

---------------

The media intentionally or unintentionally fueled this hysteria. They don't have to tell humans to act irrational. We will. Ever been in a mass shooting? A Tsunami? An ebola outbreak? Chased by a bear? Humans act irrationally when scared. The media has scared all of mankind. Intentionally or unintentionally. Yes...yes the media has.

And my criticism of Trump? He was ahead of this. YOUR Democrats made sure we were all not told of it.

Keep ignoring the fact Trump started working on this during his impeachment. As posted numerous times above. His response was largely ignored or panned. He took this seriously long before Pelosi and the other idiots did. Downplaying it to keep people calm while they worked behind the scenes is not a bad thing. The media hoax of panic before it was warranted and total disregard for Trumps actual actions are the issue.

Breaking News: Democrats willing to sacrifice half the world's population in order to unseat Trump...

Washington DC, 3/13/2020

Top level Democrats met in a closed session today in the world's largest hyperbolic chamber to discuss the pandemic and how it may be effectively managed. Nancy Pelosi offered a number of possibilities regarding the pandemic and how top level politicians and the media should respond. "Ideally, we can create enough panic and misinformation that rioting and public violence rise to such a degree that massive casualties occur. This can provide us with the ammunition we need to get the President out of the White House." Pelosi pointed out. Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, who snuck in to the closed meeting by hiding in Maxine Water's hair asked what that might mean for the dozens of transgender people of unspecified sexual orientation. Pelosi replied "They have just as much right to identify as healthy as anyone else." Pelosi then organized a rapid fire brainstorming session about how additional death and mayhem could be sewn not only in the continental U.S. but in other countries around the world, with the exception of China, who according to Pelosi "remains blameless in this atrocious Trump plot to continue leading the country." Chuck Schumer suggested that tens of thousands of immigrants massed at U.S. borders could be re-routed to other countries as they have a greater likelihood of being infected and thus the pandemic could be spread to other places in the world. "Who's going to VOTE for us then, Chuck?" Pelosi snapped.

The POTUS says there are very few cases and this will all be over soon, it will magically disappear, people with mild symptoms are working. Then people start to see more and more cases and deaths and quarantines and cancellations. POTUS says tests are readily available and beautiful. Then Fauci says testing is a failure.

Instead of downplaying the situation, Trump should have been warning that precautionary measures would likely need to be taken. Instead of lying about problems, he should acknowledge them. Do you really not see how this induces panic?

Breaking News: Democrats willing to sacrifice half the world's population in order to unseat Trump...

Unfortunately that headline is misleading. Breaking means recent. Dems have been willing to do this for nearly 4 years.

Ben Roethlisberger has thrown more than twice as many interceptions than Kordell Stewart.

Sean Hannity will tell you Stewart was the better QB a day after Anthony Fauci explained to him why he is not.

It cannot be shared enough.

Meanwhile on testing...

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/testing-in-us.html

This map includes states and territories with one or more laboratories that have successfully verified and are currently using COVID-19 diagnostic tests. As of the evening of March 11, 81 state and local public health laboratories in 50 states and the District of Columbia have successfully verified COVID-19 diagnostic tests and are offering testing.

All 50 continental US States are testing for COVID-19.

Number of specimens tested for SARS CoV-2 by CDC labs (N=3903) and U.S. public health laboratories* (N=9721)†

lab-data-graph.png

Note: As of March 12, the dates associated with the specimens tested by CDC Labs have been updated to reflect the date the specimen was received by CDC, instead of when they were collected from the patient. Use of the specimen received date better reflects when specimens became available for testing by the CDC Labs.

* Reporting public health labs are 48 state public health labs (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VT, WA, WI, WV and WY), New York City, USAF, and 7 California Counties.

Trump's biggest problem is that he talks before he knows facts. This coronavirus thing is just the latest example. His best bet in situations like these is to give a non-answer type answer until he has the facts and can speak intelligently on the subject at hand. I know that isn't his style, but stuff like speaking about issues before you know the facts is a recipe to look like an idiot.

Tibs and Flog - want a perfect analogy to what is going on?

hypothetical situation 1:
couple people in a movie theater watching a movie. one person yells "Fire!" what happens next? well, those few people look around and assess the announcement to see if it's a legit threat or not. if it is, they take precautions and leave. if it isn't, they'll likely watch the movie.

hypothetical situation 2:
sold-out, crowded theater, people sitting elbow to elbow. someone yells "Fire!" what happens next? One person will get up and start running for an exit. Someone else will do the same. Then another. And another. And another. Still, another after that. Soon, most everyone is running for the exit. People get trampled, some die.

basing this in reality, though, which would be better?

situation 1:
virus is identified that is killing people. Some people have died, not a lot, though the numbers can be scary without putting them in context. elected officials convene to determine if there is an overall threat to the population and try to downplay fears until more is known.

situation 2:
virus is identified that is killing people. Some people have died, not a lot, though the numbers can be scary without putting them in context. elected officials convene then break conference, screaming to everyone within earshot that people are 100% going to die, and there is quite literally nothing that can be done. the media is put on full alert, pre-planned events are scrapped, toiletries and other supplies disappear from shelves, state of unrest overwhelms the population, resulting in a heightened sense of panic.
