The Coronavirus thread

We got 200,000 bikers here from all over the country/world...******* Petri dish I'm living in.

You Liberals have been running around here saying that Trump told the world we have 15 cases and it will soon be zero......... Now you claim his words are driving people to binge shopping, that he's inciting panic?

Folks, you can't make this **** up. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Go back to the ebola crisis or the swine flu... exact opposite expectations...

Ebola has a 40% death rate in civilized countries with modern medicine readily available, and nobody saw any reason to panic when it broached our shores... hell they threw a fit over mandatory quarantines in some states... we do more for a lesss deadly illness and they say it’s horrible...

Average age of death is 81

40 to 50 million people in the danger zone...

18 to 20% contagion rate in a worse case scenario

Going to be a <1% death rate when extensive testing starts

Math and reality say worse case deaths are a couple hundred thousand

Alot of numbers point to around 100k or less... same as a bad flu season

pANIC!!!!!

Dr. Fauci applauding how Trump's team has embraced the private sector to join forces with the Feds to address this issue. Bravo.

Did I hear correctly that they have gotten Target Walmart and others to set up drive through testing? Leverage.

Hey FBF, are ya feeling it yet? All of those of you that have fallen for this hook, line, and sinker, do you feel it yet? Ever heard the term sheeple? Y’all did it, y’all fell for it, y’all made their experiment easy. You didn’t question the situation, the media, or the so-called experts that fed the hysteria. In just a couple of days, the government took control of sporting events, telling you where you can and can’t go, and getting professional sports to shut down their seasons. Just imagine, the financial losses to the stadiums, the hotels, the restaurants where these venues were scheduled. But, you did it, you swallowed the kool-aid.

Survival rates for this virus, if you’re under 60 is 99.7%. We had the swine flu and bird flu, each of which carried a mortality rate of 18-30%: did we shut down the country for those? Let me assure you, we DID .....NOT. We had SARS and EBOLA, both much more deadly than COVID-19, did we shut down the country for them? We emphatically DID......NOT!

You see how easy it was for them when you’re not paying attention. We must always be vigilant about what the government tells us, and question when it doesn’t sound right. It requires sheep dogs to be aware, to watch over. I promise this is just a test. I promise the next time it will be worse, and I can assure there will be another. The govt just found out how easy it was, how easily you rolled over, how thoroughly you drank of the Kool-Aid. THIS is how governments take over. We MUST remain vigilant. We MUST be independent thinkers, and we MUST stand in the gap.

You see how easy it was??????

That pretty much sums up what I see. We've had like 10-15 terrible oh we're all going to die plagues in the last 25 years. Most of them much worse. **** kept going like normal.

This one is in an election year. The lefties colluding with China to influence the election. I'm going to get my dossier ready.

I've never seen anything like this nonsense in my life. It smells.

That’s great Tim, but why do you suddenly care? I thought the real predicament was China’s strangle hold on pharmaceuticals and medical supplies and Costco running out of toilet paper. BTW, I heard China is donating supplies to Italy.

You moron, China is what dumb liberals think Russia is - a real enemy. One intent on destroying us and a rival nation which can and does harm us, every goddamn day.

Why the ******* **** do you think Washington, Dipshit Central is in such a ******* panic over a President who has not started a war, is not looking to start a war, is trying to get the United States out of current wars???

Because Washington ******* D.C. is infested and infected with millionaire leeches getting rich off the taxpayer with government contracts and wars and deals with the Chinese that make them rich but ship our manufacturing jobs to their filthy cities and slave labor. I am stunned at how stupid leftists are when it comes to seeing the overpowering stench of corruption emanating from their own side.

Joe ******* Biden?!? You mean the guy who was "the point man on China" as that nation stole billions worth of technology from us, and who oversaw horrible trade deals that pillaged American manufacturing and turned it over to a nation that employs slave labor? That ******* guy in charge of our nation? Oh, that's rich.

Not as rich as his worthless son will be, but still ...

I don't necessarily agree with this logic.

First, we "slow down" influenza every year because millions get vaccinated. And even if you get the flu after the vaccine, it supposedly greatly reduces symptoms.

Second, influenza is serious. You make it sound like we should just accept influenza deaths but I don't know about you, but it's a scary disease that I wish we didn't have to deal with every October to March. I'm sure anyone who has lost a loved one, however old, would like that flu didn't exist.

Third, Covid-19 appears more contagious than influenza. It lasts longer on surfaces. Without antibodies, natural immunity and vaccines, people catch Covid-19 much easier and then become carriers to pass it along to others.

Forth, when you combine all these facts, and you might think this is insignificant, but I think we potentially have MILLIONS infected. This is just the beginning. There is no reason at this point to think this will not spread MORE rapidly and to MORE people than influenza does every season. 35 MILLION people got sick with influenza in 2018-2019. Read that again. 35 MILLION.

So let's say we are in the midst of "Covid-19 season", just like influenza season, and we could see, instead of 35 million infected over the next 6 months, 100 million (because of no vaccine and all the facts about the bug we know about). And the death rate even at 1% would then be 1 million people. Yes, they will be older people. Yes, it might not be you. But that is still an ENORMOUS death toll because of a disease and will likely effect or touch every person in this country.

Deborah Birx, Coronavirus Response Coordinator:

South Korea testing - only 4% of the tests were positive. 96% of the people had different respiratory issues.
Labcorp and Qwest early data are running 1-2% positive.

Again... when does the death toll become enough for you? As many as influenza? Twice? Ten times?

This is not magically going to disappear because we do this stupid "shut down" for 2 weeks. This isn't 9-11 where sports will all come back in 2 weeks like nothing happened.

This is a SEASON of really bad influenza. And by bad, I mean potentially 10 times as bad. Depending if weather helps at all, it could last 3 months, 6 months, right through next year until a vaccine is available. We just don't know.

Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania schools all closed.Ohio schools until April 6th. WV are closed "until further notice".

The word I'm getting from the higher ups in the district is that the year is over. Nobody is going back. All Spring Sports will most likely be cancelled.

I believe I read that last year was a bad flu year. 61 million folks caught it, 61,000 died.

The flu does suck and it CAN kill you. But the likelihood of the flu killing you if you aren't 60+ and/or have a compromised immune system? not so high.

This new bug, well, it's going to go the same way ultimately. Lots of folks may get it. Some will undoubtedly die, but this is not a global extinction event folks, no matter how badly CNN and the democratic party wish it was.

Vice President Joe Biden's Remarks on Swine Flu Draw Criticism
Dems hustle to temper the criticism aimed at VP's swine flu advice.

April 30, 2009— -- Democrats hustled to temper Vice President Joe Biden's comments today that he would advise his family to avoid flying or being in confined spaces because of concerns about swine flu, a comment that drew criticism from the travel industry.

At a news conference Wednesday evening, President Obama said Americans who may be sick should avoid airplanes and "any system of public transportation where you're confined," but the vice president today took it one step further.

"I would tell members of my family -- and I have -- I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now. It's not that it's going to Mexico in a confined aircraft where one person sneezes, that goes all the way through the aircraft," Biden said on NBC's "Today" show.

"That's me," he said.

"I would not be, at this point, if they had another way of transportation, suggesting they ride the subway," he said. "From my perspective, this relates to mitigation. If you're out in the middle of the field and someone sneezes, that's one thing. If you're in a closed aircraft, a closed container, a closed car, a closed classroom, that's another thing."

Biden's comments came just hours before the White House announced that a Department of Energy official who had traveled to Mexico City with Secretary Energy Chu exhibited flu-like symptoms upon his return, but tested negative for the swine flu. However, his wife, son and nephew tested positive for the virus, and have now recovered.

The White House shot down concerns that the president or any other immediate members of his staff may be impacted. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the individual did not come within six feet of Obama but was present at a dinner with him and did come into contact with Chu.

Gibbs added that about 10 staffers who were on the Mexico City trip with Obama consulted doctors for flu-like symptoms, but none of them tested positive for the swine flu.

Biden's remarks drew the ire of the travel industry. The U.S. Travel Association immediately released a statement countering Biden's remarks, and advised people to listen to medical experts.

"Americans should heed the advice of medical experts when determining how best to manage health concerns during the ongoing swine flu outbreak. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and countless other experts, swine flu should not discourage people from traveling to or within the United States," Roger Dow, president and chief executive of the association, said in the statement.

"Elected officials must strike a delicate balance of accurately and adequately informing citizens of health concerns without unduly discouraging travel and other important economic activity," he said.

American Airlines issued an even stronger statement.

"To suggest that people not fly at this stage of things is a broad brush stroke bordering on fear-mongering," American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith told The Associated Press. "The facts of the situation, at this stage anyway, certainly don't support that."

He Meant Something Else?

When asked by ABC News' Jake Tapper whether the White House had a response to Biden's comments, Gibbs replied: "I think ... what the vice president meant to say was the same thing that again, many members have said in the last few days, that is, if you feel sick, if you are exhibiting flulike symptoms -- coughing, sneezing, runny nose -- that you should take precautions, that you should limit your travel."

Gibbs apologized if anyone was "unduly" alarmed but did not elaborate.

"Jake, I'm telling you what he meant to say," he said to laughter.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano earlier today also tried to temper the vice president's remarks.

"I think the vice president, if he had, if he could say that over again he would say if they're feeling sick they should stay off public transit or confined spaces because that is indeed the advice that we're giving," Napolitano said on MSNBC.

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, who said Biden's comments were unfortunate, was visibly frustrated by what he called misinformation.

"I wish the vice president had checked with the Centers for Disease Control ... before he made that statement. ... As far as not riding on subways or planes, we're not going to shut down our system and that doesn't get to the nub of the problem, anyway," he said on Radio Iowa. "So I think that's very unfortunate that this kind of misinformation got out."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., also had a different message. She said she would not tell her family to stay off planes and public transportation, but would recommend to them the "common-sense" approach, washing hands and covering sneezes or coughs.

"They are living their lives and, again, practicing common sense, good practices. And so it's not a question of not encouraging, not to travel. It's also a question of encouraging them not to leave home ... just because their states ... are the most, shall we say, suspicious in this case," Pelosi told reporters.

Biden's spokeswoman, Elizabeth Alexander, released a statement shortly after the vice president's remarks, saying, "The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans: that they should avoid unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways. This is the advice the vice president has given family members who are traveling by commercial airline this week."

To Travel or Not to Travel

The CDC has confirmed 131 cases of swine flu in 18 states. The World Health Organization has tallied 236 cases globally, most of them in Mexico.

The CDC recommends against any non-essential travel to Mexico, but it has not said to avoid travel altogether because of flu concerns. The U.S.-Mexico border remains open, and airlines have not canceled flights.

At a news conference on the 100-day anniversary of his administration, President Obama reiterated the need for individual responsibility in staying safe from the flu but advised against panic.

"This is a cause for deep concern but not panic," he said. " If you are sick, stay home. If your child is sick, keep them out of school. If you are feeling certain flu symptoms, don't get on an airplane. Don't get on any system of public transportation where you're confined and you could potentially spread the virus."

He said his advisers did not believe the U.S.-Mexico border should be closed. "From their perspective, it would be akin to closing the barn door after the horses are out, because we already have cases here in the United States," he said.

Biden also said this morning that doing so would be a "massive undertaking" and that no benefit would come from it.

The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee convened today the fourth congressional hearing this week on swine flu with CDC and Health and Human Services officials. Napolitano will hold a briefing Thursday afternoon.

ABC News' Jake Tapper, Dean Norland, Karen Travers and David Chalian contributed to this report.

(AP) Adam Schiff announces global crisis!
Adam Schiff made a public statement today. "We are facing a global extinction event! Every single living thing on this planet will die if Donald Trump isn't replaced with Joe Biden in the next election." When asked to cite evidence or facts supporting this dire claim, Schiff pointed out that he personally had all the evidence necessary to prove the allegation. Schiff went further. He claimed that "solid archeological evidence exists that proves Donald Trump was the actual catalyst that killed all the dinosaurs in a bold attempt to increase future oil reserves."

No one said it was a global extinction event. But if your mother or father or aunt or uncle got it, would YOU just say "well, guess you're unlucky" or would you expect the hospital to be ready to treat them 110%?

Again, just use influenza as the example but imagine that 60 million WITHOUT a vaccine? How many get infected then? How many die? How many are wiped out for 2 weeks instead of a week?

We ALL know someone who catches the flu every year. But we also all get the flu vaccine (or should).

This is WORSE than the flu because even old people that get the flu are often vaccinated (and that helps).

There is no way the government or our healthcare system should just sit back and ACCEPT a disease that culls 2-3% of its population (even those already sick) by throwing up their hands and saying "oh well".... Every step the government is taking is an effort to turn that 2-3% into 1%. This will last a LONG time because that is the PLAN. Slow it down enough so the healthcare system can hopefully treat anyone that YOU care about that gets it seriously.

I'm really not sure anything done to date is "over the top". This is a worse, more easily catchable influenza strain that doesn't have a vaccine and kills a high percentage of susceptible people. That definition ALONE is enough to worry people. And it should.

(AP) Conspiracy Theorists Suggests Cure for Virus.
Famous Conspiracy Theorist Alex Jones has suggested a radical way to obliterate the pandemic virus threatening human existence. "I would suggest we lock the virus in to Jeffrey Epstein's cell and put a couple WHO staffers on to watch the virus." Jones suggested the process may be sped up if the virus was put on "suicide watch". Hillary Clinton and key members of her staff were unavailable for comment.

Which government is doing that? Would that be China?

My mother died of cancer and not ONE school shut down or set themselves up to do remote classes.

And the ******* NCAA tournaments... ******* Arkansas Razorbacks. You'd think they would have cancelled the tournaments to keep people safe from cancer.

See, now this is just smart...

(AP) Senator Liz Warren Rallies Voters with Health Care Promise!
In an inspirational speech for the ages, recent step-down candidate Elizabeth Warren reminded voters how she could help the country if she were named running mate for likely nominee Joe Biden. "I will not rest. I will not stop, I will not eat, I will not do pilates until I have personally authored, sponsored and driven through the house and senate very specific legislation that criminalizes death." Of the more than 20 people in attendance, many were encouraged and energized by Warren's promise. "I'm 93 years old and I am personally very invested in any legislation that will help me live longer." said Ethel Brahkenbach of Stoneham MA. Warren promised that her legislation would be "... the most sweeping, the most far-reaching legislation in the history of law since legal pioneers took action to set aside land for my noble Native American ancestors." While the modest crowd was generally enthusiastic, some went particularly wild when Warren claimed that "... the only LEGAL death is death caused unwillingly, unknowingly or un-reportedly by immigrants seeking a better life in this country!"
When asked about the likelihood of supporting Warren's proposed legislation, Nancy Pelosi said "only if it contains abortion funding."

You can't run a health care response based on what you'd do with your mother or father. That's just ignorant. You realize that if you reduce the speed limit to 5 mph you'd save thousands of lives per year? Do you want your mother or father to die in a car crash? Then drop the SL to 5 mph. See how ignorant that sounds?

Fact is that this is a virus. There were over 10,000 people dead by the swine flu in Obama's first term before he did a damn thing about it and nobody panicked. The news hardly mentioned it at all. This is political. IF Clinton were in office nobody would be talking about it. It isn't going to kill 1% of the population nor is it going to last for years. I get bored reading responses from people that just don't know what they are talking about. Political prognosticators that know nothing about science or viruses extrapolating from their ignorance how the world is ending due to Trump. I'm loathed to watch this crap much longer.
