The Coronavirus thread

Donald Trump nominates him and then the Republican US Senate confirms the nomination.

You know, POTUS Donald Trump, who repeated the SG’s warning from yesterday.

JFC!

Look, I love Trump and how he has taken on the media and Establishment, but even I know a little Dunning-Kruger Effect when I see it. LOL

"You know, my uncle was a great person. He was at MIT. He taught at MIT for, I think, like a record number of years. He was a great super genius. Dr. John Trump. I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it. Every one of these doctors said, 'How do you know so much about this? ' Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president."

If anything, the virus has proven to me that smaller federal government and greater States' rights/control is the WAY to go.

All the federal government is doing is being a bank, with about a 25% waste factor and pork add-ons. All they do is get in the way.

I guess we need a CDC to provide some guidance, but let's face it - state governors are making ALL the major decisions that are effecting our lives. They closed the schools. They closed the businesses. That and private industry, which is doing all the heavy lifting of maintaining hospitals and supply lines for essential goods.

I've said this a million times. Taxes to the federal government should go down 25% and taxes to our state governments should go up 25%. And then they should all adjust their budgets accordingly.

We would get much more bang for our buck if that was the case.

That is ANYTHING but socialism.

very interesting - so the Federal Reserve (which has no oversight and has never been audited) would act as a "bank" for people who cannot provide ID to prove who they say they are. I see absolutely no issues that could possibly arise from something as pristine and pure as this.

I'm BIG into crypto and let me tell you, it's daunting what I had to go through to set up accounts on some of the exchanges. Photos of my drivers license, photo of me holding a sign with cryptic sayings, etc. So, to read this is just mind blowing. the fed is going to **** us over HARD. Good thing I have my own digital currency not tied to that corrupt entity.

Kind of funny how a crisis brings out the Socialist in everyone.

Our economy is getting assfucked with no lubrication right now. I'd personally rather quarantine anyone who would be a high risk in serious complications or death from this.

Let it run it's course just like the flu. Take the best precautions you can and run with it. Train wrecking the whole country is not going be a viable solution

Pretty stupid hot take right there. This is a time for emergency and this is a temporary bail out in response to a national crisis while people cannot work. Socialism is a way of life....and a ****** way of life at that. Nice try....but no.

Huge difference between wanting socialism and expecting the government to compensate businesses and individuals for lost income because the government decided to tell private businesses that they could not operate. Throughout history we have faced Polio, Measles, Mumps, Cholera, Plague, Spanish Flu, Asian Flu, Small Pox, AIDS, SARS, MERS, Swine Flu, H1N1, Zika, Ebola...etc and we have never shut down the country like we have over Covid-19. We are going to end up close to 28-29 Trillion in debt and over 3 trillion in budget deficit for the year (at best). What is the end game? What happens when we lift travel bans and we get another case and it starts to spread again, do we shut it all down again? People are going to die from this virus, nobody is ever going to want it to happen to them or their family, but life goes on. Let the virus run its course, let people build up the antibodies to the virus, and minimize the risk of spread when the virus returns in the fall, winter, or next spring. The government chose to take the most extreme actions based on worst case scenarios of what "could" or "might" happen and have impacted millions of workers and pretty much every business in the country/world.

I don't need any money from the gov't. Just get the **** out of the way so I could go EARN my money.

I hope that what we are heading to will be a test and isolate phase once we are through this phase. Trump wants to open up as soon as we can but that will have to wait until we have ramped up the testing enough to use the South Korea model.

There are workers in the hospitality industry that may not have jobs to go back to to earn money if the Government does not find a way to keep businesses afloat.

So getting our own money back which we need because of government shutting down. Businesses is socialism?

I have been calling for only net tax payers to get anything. That totally eliminates the socialist angle.

I don't need the govt's money, either. If they want to help the millions of people out of work, then that's where the money needs to go NOW. This supposed to be a fast stopgap to this crisis, not a way of life going forward, how many want it. I liked Mark Cuban's response ripping everyone to get this done:

"BOTH OF YOU NEED TO DO YOUR (EXPLETIVE) JOB!" Cuban began one tweet. "@SenSchumer, stop kissing progressive (expletive). We can't solve every problem in this deal @JohnCornyn, stop kissing big corporate (expletive). They don't need buybacks or (executive) bonuses. They have no choice but to take any deal they can get."

"The economy is crashing and people are getting sick and dying because you 2 hard (expletive) think your agendas are bigger than the health and future of the American people," he wrote. "They are not. There is no perfect deal. TIME IS OUR ENEMY. Get this done today!"

There are 350,000 hospitality businesses in the United States. If you take the average of $1000 for every adult and $500 for dependents, that is about 250 Billion dollars. If you divide that by the number of businesses affected they could give an average of almost $700,000 per business to keep staff employed, stay on insurance, pay rent...etc That would be about a million times more effective than giving individuals $1000. That money is meaningless if they have no job to go back to.

how it's going, no one will see anything. The tug-o-war is too strong.

but then you are giving money to evil businesses. Everybody knows they didn’t build that. They stole it from workers. Every single business has big reserves of cash that they horde and spend on lavish gifts for themselves while only pretending to scrape by so they can avoid paying workers a fair share. Building a business is super easy. Anybody can do it because the government built roads so that people can visit your business.

When a country ends up 30 trillion in debt, it has been socialist for a long time, not just because of this crisis. Any taxpayer money has been long spent, the economy is only surviving on printed money.

It’s not like there is a federal surplus, so it’s money that the government doesn’t have. So if each tax payer gets $1,000, it’s really like a forced $1,000 loan. It’s kinda socialist.

You had a good post yesterday and you just had to go and **** that up already.
