The Coronavirus thread

Our Companies owner came home from the hospital today. Almost 4 weeks and 2 of them spent on a vent sedated. He lost 40lbs and needs weeks of physical therapy basically learning how to breathe again and working on his muscle strength. He had no known issues aside from being in his late 50's. This is terrible for some who get it. Thankfully he has run his distributorship right and we have stayed busy due to his willingness to be flexible and for having good people under him. Unlike many Pella Distributors we have not had any furloughs and are close to last year in sales and ahead on shipping. Even with the rise in unemployment we still need more good installers.

And the vast majority of that number is people who were 93 with cancer, etc...

I am so suspect of the death figures. NY just found an additional 1700 nursing home deaths. WTF? Just like I am skeptical of the voting process in Dem held districts, where boxes of ballots just appear out of thin air to push a Dem candidate past the finish line.

There is so much that has been wrong. There are so many motives to push the death totals higher.

I am not buying what they are selling now, and moving forward. I don't trust Fauci at this point. I think Trump has caught on to his game.

And this, my friends, is just one of many reasons why few people on the right take climate change seriously.

Damn that is one ugly waste of space on earth..

I live in Chester County. We have a population of over 500,000 with 148 deaths. 129 of the deaths are in nursing homes. Since we are lumped in with Philadelphia in Wolfe's "regions" God only knows when we'll be open.

Chester County has more cases than Allegheny County, so does Lancaster County. The cases per capita are almost three times higher. So yeah, my guess is you’ve got a long road ahead of you.

19 people outside of nursing homes, of a population of 524,989, have died from the Chinese flu. That is 0.0036% of the population.

So yeah, let's ******* shut down the economy and drive businesses to bankruptcy. Great ******* idea.

Hey, the murder Hornet is present in Washington state!!!! Let's plow under every fruit-bearing tree and burn wheat fields to stop its spread!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!!

The increase in number of positive cases directly reflects the increase in testing that has been occurring country-wide, making the death rate even more insignificant than it already is.

Cases are a stupid metric. The more you ramp up testing, the more cases you are going to have. We have 11 people on ventilators. No data on how many are hospitalized, but friends who work in the hospital tell me it's a ghost town.

Time for the hospitals to start shifting from ventilators to anti-venom to handle the impending murder Hornet influx!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another stat I would love to know is how many of the nursing home deaths are in people who are DNR. Meaning they are in such bad shape already that no live-saving measures were even allowed to be tried.

Sweden's data destroys claims that it will suffer significant losses due to failure to institute lockdown. Instead, data show a per capita death rate better than its neighbor, the Netherlands, and further that Sweden is well past its peak and very much on the decline - i.e., they have herd immunity now.

https://www.folkhalsomyndigheten.se...mate-of-the-effective-reproduction-number.pdf

So the lockdown zealots were wrong. Oh, I'm sure that we will hear Fauci, Flog, and all the rest admit that they were just making it up, destroyed millions of jobs and untold number of businesses and are really, really sorry.

Yeah, we're going to hear that right damn soon, just you wait.

I think there's a lot of cooking the books going on here. I live in Josephine county Or. where the population is around 88K. As of a couple of days ago we had only 22 confirmed cases. Now today they took away one because the infected wasn't a resident of this county. But at the same time they added 4 more because they were presumptive patients. Now that to me just doesn't make any sense. What good is keeping accurate books if you have to assume they have the right virus?

The Netherlands is Sweden’s neighbor? The Netherlands is the fourth most densely populated country in the world, Sweden is 85th. Compared to other Nordic countries, Sweden’s data is anything but impressive.

totally missing the point. If the virus was as deadly as advertised and if lockdowns were the only thing stopping millions from dying then Sweden’s numbers should be much much higher than neighbors. In reality, they are pretty close.

interesting point about the population density. Sounds like you are advocating that less densely populated areas should be fine to go about normal business. In other words, most of America should be fine and just keep the most densely populated areas on lockdown.

But the elitists all live in the densely populated areas. They hate middle America, which to them is pretty much anything between New York and CA excluding Chicago. They will not tolerate you rubes walking around free and doing well economically while they suffer in their poorly run shitholes

It wasn't so long ago that the Lib elitists were bitching about suburban sprawl and us using more energy and space than we need and most everyone should live in cities.

Curious to know what the numbers are in Stockholm compared to Amsterdam.

Stockholm has 200,000 more people,Sweden is less densely populated I suspect due to a bigger country with a bunch of cold wasteland like Canada?

The reality being per capita death rates that are 3 to 5 times higher than the other Nordic countries. Pretty close?

You can argue it was worth it, but it’s clear that Sweden paid a price.

And the shutdowns were by state, coastal elites didn’t dictate the shutdowns of flyover states.

bbbbbbbut I thought Trump was a dictator!

Why would you select just the Nordic countries? This is truly a global problem.

This is where Sweden ranks in deaths per 100,000. They didn't lock down. Countries below and above them did. Once again, there is literally no conclusive evidence that locking down had anything to do with mitigating the risk of this virus. Even your new Leftist hero, Andrew Cuomo today said 66% of their new cases are people in New York that were sequestered and locked in their homes. Funny, that huh?

What exactly is your point?

Scientific review of that bullshit Imperial College model, led by Neil Ferguson. The conclusion is epic.
Conclusions. All papers based on this code should be retracted immediately. Imperial’s modelling efforts should be reset with a new team that isn’t under Professor Ferguson, and which has a commitment to replicable results with published code from day one.

On a personal level, I’d go further and suggest that all academic epidemiology be defunded. This sort of work is best done by the insurance sector. Insurers employ modellers and data scientists, but also employ managers whose job is to decide whether a model is accurate enough for real world usage and professional software engineers to ensure model software is properly tested, understandable and so on. Academic efforts don’t have these people, and the results speak for themselves.

Completely agree. These "academics" have absolutely no accountability or consequences for bad models. Apply capitalism and market forces to the analysis and let the people dependent on accurate models do the work - you know, treat it like it's important to not be off by a factor of 25.

Just one quick meme and I'm gone this morning. Hurricane prep time of the year here in the sunshine State and my new generator needs a home.

On second thought...this may not be a meme after all.

Got my first corona virus customer this morning. 95 years old and in a nursing home.
