The Coronavirus thread

Most people I see are wearing cloth masks. Even the CDC admits cloth masks will not prevent you from contracting Covid19 which is spread through droplets.

That being the case, what is the point of wearing them? So people feel better?

Everyone is at risk... The point is just because someone is healthy and likely to recover from the virus doesn't mean they cant still spread it to less fortunate people. Wearing a mask is an inconvenience nothing else. It is selfish to not just put on a mask.

Not true. You're regurgitating media panic-born talking points. This disease is NOT a risk to everyone. Your daily trips in an automobile are FAR more dangerous to you.

As I posted previously, the CDC is now saying: CDC issues new Covid death rate (for people with symptoms) — Just 0.05% for patients under 50…Risk of dying now in the ‘hundredths of one percent’…

Everyone is NOT at risk any more than they are at risk of dying from the flu.

Stop spreading hysteria.

You could be like Alyssa Milano and wear a crocheted mask. Nothing could possibly go wrong with that.

Show me your masks! Masks keep people safe and healthy. Show me yours! Ready? PA I believe. I could be mistaken.

Yes it's PA. we're all supposed to be thrilled with the crumbs he's thrown us in the "yellow" phase. How does a county move into the green phase? They haven't told us that. It's whenever Tom Wolf says so.

I mean, WTF is this? Why is he suddenly the sole arbiter of everything?

That's perfect.

Rush Limbaugh's theory is that the masks keep the panic alive in people's minds and they are not done milking the panic for gains.

Yes it's very sad.

Did they post the names of the up to 62000 people who died from flu this past season? The 650,000 or so who died from heart disease last year? The 600,000 who died of cancer? Must have missed those issues. Guess those lives didn't matter.

Actually they did. They just put them all under the RONA category.

The point is not to protect yourself from virus particles. it's to keep your own droplets from spraying far and wide into the air and onto surfaces, especially when you cough and sneeze. I honestly don't have a big problem with wearing them. If it reduces the risk a little why not.

What side of history is ordering COVID positive patients to be sent to nursing homes to infect the most vulnerable?

He was t the only one. Local govt, and hosp we’re trying to force them back, even in clean centers. Hosp threatened “lack of future” referrals to your center if you don’t take them.

My thing, especially now is your not having sick people out(sick meaning coughing and sneezing all over the place) but rather asymptotic folks who practice **** hand hygiene and folks getting it via contact as they have **** hand hygiene.

I hate wearing a mask not because it’s bothersome, but rather I feel like my mother told me what to wear and not wear to school. My choice.

How are you comparing heart disease and cancer and what not to corona? Those are not contagious diseases.....The flu is a more valid comparison, but this is on pace to kill close to 2x as many as the worst flu season. You can debate whether or not its worth shutting down the country, but comparing apples to oranges is not helpful

Half right. They don't only work in one direction. They stop those same particles on the way in, too.

The last I checked, death is still death. How you die is relatively inconsequential, why is 150k people dying from COVID more spectacular than the average of 1 million people that die EVERY YEAR from heart disease and cancer. We know of all kinds of chemicals and ingredients that are carcinogenic or promote heart disease, where is the demands for eliminating all of those? This virus is nothing more than media hysteria and pandering to the liberal left by fear mongering to those not smart enough to think for themselves.

There are lots of demands / testing for food not to mention millions maybe billions of $$$ in research yearly

I sure as hell don’t leave my mask on to sneeze. I pull it down and sneeze into my arm like we did in school. And I don’t cough into them either. I pull them down and cover my mouth. At least I only have 2 more mandated shifts of mask wearing. Then I’m don’t with masks for good. Could you imagine how gross it would be to get snot all over your mask after sneezing?? I’ll pass.

I think she’s an idiot, but supposedly that mask has a pocket for a filter. If so, it’s at least as effective as using an old tshirt.

Knit mask with a carbon filter. That sounds really comfortable. I think it probably does have a pocket for a filter because nobody is stupid enough to make that as a stand-alone mask, but if she had one in there not sure why she wouldn't just reply right away with a pic of it.

Her reply on Twitter to the barrage of comments she received was something to the effect of "********!" (she led with that)....this mask has an insert carbon filter. It is completely safe.

So she's breathing through a fish filter through a cloth with holes in it.

My question is, how is she in a position to dictate that it is "safe?" Is she in the know? The CDC can't tell us what is safe or not. It lives on cardboard, it doesn't, it's airborne 23 feet one week, the next its airborne for up to 5 feet, its spread by water droplets when we sneeze, to this week emphatically saying it is not spread at all by touch. We were told to NOT wear masks, they wouldn't help, to now being fined (in my state) if you don't.

But she KNOWS what is safe.

Right...Alyssa.

I only wear the mask when I have no choice. Like getting groceries. But I feel like I am shamed into wearing it more than I believe I'm saving lives.

That blows. I hate exercising at home. Theres always something better to do at home. Like right now, as I type on a Steelers message board.

Right now I would be at my cities rec center. I pay for a membership so it forces me to go.

I purchased a cheap elliptical and a stairclimber. The elliptical is siting here, right next to me in my home office. The stairclimber is in the basement along with my weights. We have a small basement.
Time to get on this thing. See yinz later.

Thats me. I need to get out of the house to be motivated enough to get it done. I've been to Planet Fitness twice this week. It felt amazing.

Maybe if we stop posting to this thread, the COVID will go away. Screw masks, screw quarantines, screw social distancing. Get out there and live before the asteroid gets us next week, or the murder hornets take up residence in your attic or you get cancer or Alzheimer's or MS, or have a stroke, or choke to death on chicken n waffles...The whole thing is fn ridiculous and the faster we get back to our normal routines, the better, in my opinion.

Thank you and have a pleasant tomorrow.

New studies are finding that up to SIXTY percent of the population has a form of preexisting immunity to this strain, perhaps stemming from a strain of the common cold... which may explain why virtually all large quarantines only had 20% outbreaks...

That kind of supports my gut feeling that I've been exposed to this multiple times by different people pretty close in my life (co-worker in office next door, friend, daughter). I wondered why I didn't get their bug at the time right before this blew up.
