The Coronavirus thread

Not that I'm against wearing masks, but you do realize they've cooked the **** out of the books on this virus, right? And they didn't send flu infected patients to nursing homes all over the country in certain states, right? They also don't get paid for flu infected deaths. They don't count 'probably' scenarios where a person died and might have had the flu, and count it as a flu death.

If you can't see that this is political in nature, the 'response', I don't know what to tell you.

In California, and many other places, they count positive tests as an individual case. A person who is retested to go back to work after testing positive, is treated as an additional case if tested positive again. There is so much questionable data concerning this virus, I don't know what claims can be made with certainty. It is also obvious that mitigation strategies are made along partisan lines.

Something that hasn't been talked about is the months long recovery or long-term damage it causes for the "recovered." I keep seeing individual stories, though they haven't quantified how many have actually made full recoveries versus those who no longer have Covid but are left with permanent damage.

I talked about this months ago when I talked about comorbidity rates. And then Troglodyte came in and told me that that's not what it means, that it means infection rate of a population, or something. Now comorbidity means the presence of diseases or conditions already in a person that's infected, but I believe it also takes into account what the current infection does to the body, how long it can last, etc.

I think there may be a lot of things about this virus that are still not known. Like whether or not it was actually man-made. Some researchers are saying it was, due to the strange effects it has on different people, the wide variety of symptoms, it's inability to survive in certain scenarios that are not "out of the ordinary" etc., if you will.

You're definitely onto something (in my mind) and to say that it's simply the flu at this point is ignoring everything that's happened till now. I just wish it wasn't so politicized and that we could get some good honest information from the best medical minds on Earth instead. I'm sure it's out there, it's just really hard to weed through the bullshit.

The flu kills about 60.000/year in the US at worst. It's also clearly seasonal, we have some immunity in the population to many strains so it doesn't spread nearly as fast, and there are vaccines that prevent some of it.

In a year or two we will likely be there with this virus. This is temporary.

Sorry. It isn't. It is worse than typical flu. Period. Hey Spike, it is a bad flu. It impacts the most vulnerable, like those in nursing homes. I know. I have a 92 year old mother in a home that I have not been able to see for 5 months. It has taken it's toll. The rest will be fine.

Neither is systemic racism. No factual basis for that.

All media concoctions.

The biggest issue facing our nation is the marxist attempt to destabilize us, and fracture us. The cultural marxists are flexing their muscles, and we need to be willing to fight the fight.

Have we noticed what has been happening recently to the Iranian nuclear facilities?

This President has his priorities in order. He is not Barack Obama.

Case numbers are meaningless to me. But positive rate, hospitalizations and deaths are all going up in some places. Hospitals are nearing capacity in some places. That's not good, no matter how the data is being cooked.

I totally agree much has been overblown and politicized about the data through the course of this. It is being made to sound worse than it is in many ways. That doesn't mean there is nothing bad about it.

I don't see why people don't see a middle ground between "OMG PANIC WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE" and "It's a complete hoax being used to control us". What is wrong with "It's not life threatening for most people but why not slow down the spread with simple measures if we can so we don't run out of hospital space and PPE again and end up having to shut everything down." Is that really such a huge infringement on our rights?

I've ever seen so many people abandon all logic and reason like this, on both sides.

It's not that hard, really isn't. Just stop listening to the liar-in-chief and you've cut out 99.9% of the bullshit.

I see he edited out the CNN bullshit. Even Tibs knows how ******* fraudulent & dishonest they are.

Yeah, I ended up offing the video, as it's too long-winded. The point is simple, Trump has lied about Covid every step of the way, going back to February. What we've seen these past few months has been the result of a complete void of leadership on the national level. Trump's response on Covid has been an unmitigated disaster. It is heartbreaking, to see an entire nation suffer from such profound ignorance. All Trump's ever been concerned with is his own re-election chances, as he knows that's the only thing that will keep him out of jail. This level of negligence at the highest level of government is unparalleled in US history.

I wouldn't say he lied, I'd say he talked out of his *** about things he's not qualified to talk about. He should have left the science to the scientists.

It's funny though. The troll has never once mentioned the criminal negligence of one Andrew Cuomo of New York, stuffing Covid-19 patients into vulnerable nursing homes by the thousands and letting them die. And other Governors of other states who did the exact same thing. That right there is unforgivable. But troll's gonna troll.

I wouldn't say he lied, I'd say he talked out of his *** about things he's not qualified to talk about.

Yeah, I guess that's another way to put it. Whether you simply want to call him ignorant, or claim that he's lying through his teeth (like I am), it is a disgrace coming from the the President of the United States and the leader of the free world, particularly when the lives and well-being of millions are at risk.

Finally, someone besides OFTB (and a few others) gets it. 100% on point, SteelerFan448. It's like a veil of ignorance gets lifted off the board, even momentarily, with a post like this. Kudos to you.

What are you talking about? I cannot think of a single person who has minimized the virus. We have instead talked about:

  • Isolating those who are susceptible to serious illness, mainly those over age 65 and those with serious co-morbidities like COPD.
  • The fact that the death rate for those under age 19 is nearly zero.
  • The fact that shutting down businesses was crazy at all times and made no sense for those under age 50, with no underlying medical condition.
  • The fact that keeping schools closed is dumb, stupid, uncalled for and merely a means for small-minded loser politicians to exercise control.
  • Why do I say this? Schools have been open since May in Germany, Sweden China, the Netherlands, South Korea, France, Denmark, and dozens of othe European nations.
  • So I guess Europe and China hate kids?!?
  • Or maybe the effort to keep schools closed in America is designed for political reasons.
  • If you think there is no political overlay on the Covid response, you are batshit crazy.

So what Fauci recommendation has he not implemented?

I'll wait ...

Gee, I wonder why that is?

...and sadly, it looks like the 2nd wave will hit Europe fairly soon, if it hasn't already. Numbers are going back up again, and certain EU countries are contemplating re-installing travel bans, limiting bars and restaurants, etc. The big difference has been the sad fact the US never really managed its first wave, and as soon as cases started plateuing, there was a rush to re-open and get things back to normal. Add to that, the batshit crazy right-wingers, who've been off the reservation from day one regarding counter-covid measures. Here in Europe people just got it very early on - wearing masks, social distancing, adhering to covid regulations - that this wasn't some government take-over, or an infringement of individual rights, etc. The situation is bad enough without dipshit, wacked-out politicians talking out of their *****, mocking reporters wearing masks, deriding their own CDC officials, like we've seen with Trump and the GOP. The situation in states like Florida and Texas is mind-numbing, to say the least. The fact hospital emergency wards are at capacity, in the middle of July, is unbelievable. Yet that's exactly what happened, as so many mocked this pandemic, called it a hoax, a partisan ploy against Trump, refused to wear masks, had hissy fits when confronted, etc, etc. Not to speak of the medical concerns raised by researchers of long-term effects of covid, be it regarding heart issues, or how it attacks other organs, that can linger in patients a lot longer than originally believed. This has been, and continues to be, a very dangerous situation, for folks around the world, on both sides of the Atlantic. Godspeed to us all.

Seeing the latest WH attacks on Fauci, I wonder how long it will take them to run this Redfield dude out of town?

Some soy boys are already asking "Why so many shots?". Uh, because the dude threatening her life kept lunging at her and attempted to pick up his deadly weapon again?

Yeah, let's take our cues from Trump-darling governors in Texas and Florida, that's the ticket. Wishing everyone well in those states and beyond, including my son who's been in Houston since January. Who would have thought a city like that would be ground zero in the US for this pandemic? Especially with temp's hitting triple digits in July. ******* sucks.

wearing masks

False. Fauci originally said not to wear masks. Trump has REPEATEDLY said that wearing a mask is fine, makes sense, he will do so when needed, he did not need to do so for press conferences. Strike 1.

Trumps reopening plan was really no plan

That does not make sense, even for you. Trump unveiled a very detailed re-opening plan, with significant emphasis on re-opening as soon as possible due to the horrible harm that the shutdown has done to the economy, i.e., millions of Americans.

Published April 17
Trump unveils plan for reopening US in phases, rolling back social distancing

President Trump on Thursday announced his plan for eventually rolling back social distancing measures and reopening the nation’s economy in several phases -- depending on location -- amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The plan calls for three phases of reopening, based on the severity of the outbreak in each individual state or region.

"We can begin the next front in our war, which we are calling 'Opening Up America Again,'" Trump said during a White House news briefing. "To preserve the health of Americans, we must preserve the health of our economy."

Strike 2. Oh, and what information can you point to that Trump ignored Fauci's recommendations on re-opening? You know, re-opening from the ******* shutdown recommended by Fauci and a bunch of other guys still getting paid?!?

ppe shortage defense fund

Are you suffering a spasm of some type? Or is that supposed to be a sentence?

So what recommendation did Fauci make that Trump ignored about "ppe defense fund"? Whatever the hell that is.

Oh, so Trump spent billions of tax dollars getting American manufacturers to produce face masks, N95 masks, respiratorts, etc.? And the "shortages" date back years, decades, and are a LOCAL responsibility but Donald ******* Trump is to blame? Nope.

Strike three.

early testing delays

You are blaming Donald Trump for "early testing delays"? Really, why don't you explain how the President is responsible for "early testing delays"?

What, he ordered the navy to sink a ship bringing Covid tests? Oh, not that. He shut down American facilities manufacturing Chinese flu tests? Huh, seems actually he dedicated a **** ton of tax dollars to American companies for testing and the problem was a ****-up by the CDC.

Coronavirus tests were delayed by contamination at CDC lab, report says
Apr 18 2020
Dan Mangan

  • A delay by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in quickly making coronavirus test kits available was the result of “a glaring scientific breakdown” at the CDC central lab, The Washington Post reported.
  • The Post reported that CDC facilities that assembled the testing kits “violated sound manufacturing practices, resulting in contamination of one of the three test components used in the highly sensitive detection process.”
  • James Le Duc, a virologist and former CDC officer who now heads the Galveston National Laboratory in Texas, told The Post that the situation was “really a terrible black mark on the CDC, and the impact was devastating to the country.”

You are blaming Donald Trump for a "glaring scientific breakdown" at the CDC central lab?!? Really?

Strike four. I think you're out.

The worst **** regarding the disease was in New ******* York and New ******* Jersey, with lockdowns, distancing, masks, etc., with one-party rule (Dims and their dummy accomplices, who took time off from burning and looting to ruin our economy).

Lot of ******* good that did. New York and New Jersey basically killed the most vulnerable.

Also, for the love of God, who thinks that the goal was to "stamp out" and prevent all from getting a virus? Hundreds of millions worldwide have the ******* virus. It's here thanks to China, which you NEVER ******* BLAMED, ONE ******* TIME, for the virus.

The point was to lengthen the curve so that hospitals and ICU units were not overwhelmed.

Also, California is the worst location now, if you hadn't noticed. You have not been to California in years; I have. California had the most stringent lockdown imaginable, masks, including not walking on dry ******* sand, for **** sake.

What good did it do? None apparently.

Finally, leftist liars are not going to have Donald Trump in power forever, but their bottomless pit of hate knows no bounds. You maniacs are going to turn your hatred towards average Americans who don't toe the party line, much like your heroes in the Soviet Union, Lenin and Stalin, and the great hero, mass-murderer, Mao.

We have less and less patience for the lies from the left - a universe of lies that makes the number of stars in the universe shrivel in comparison - because we know those lies are going to be aimed at us very, very soon.

Like now. Read your rant.
