The Coronavirus thread

Pot meet kettle.

Peaceful protest

Dude, come on that's different. Everyone knows the Rona isn't spread at or during diversity protests, Walmart, or at the grocery store. Only by Republicans and at Trump rallies. Duh.

Well isn't this special? The WHO, who the Left bows to (as of this year), now says the following. Flogged is NOT going to be happy.

WHO official urges world leaders to stop using lockdowns as primary virus control method

The World Health Organization’s special envoy on COVID-19 urged world leaders this week to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method.”

“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr. David Nabarro said to The Spectator’s Andrew Neil. “The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather

Nabarro went on to point out several of the negative consequences lockdowns have caused across the world, including devastating tourism industries and increased hunger and poverty.

"Just look at what’s happened to the tourism industry in the Caribbean, for example, or in the Pacific because people aren’t taking their holidays,” he said. “Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. ... Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”

Earlier this week, thousands of medical health experts signed their names to a petition calling for the end of coronavirus lockdowns, citing the “irreparable damage” they’ve caused.

"As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists, we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection,” read the petition, known as the Great Barrington Declaration. "Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health."

In the United States, lockdowns have been tied to increased thoughts of suicide from children, a surge in drug overdoses, an uptick in domestic violence, and a study conducted in May concluded that stress and anxiety from lockdowns could destroy seven times the years of life that lockdowns potentially save.

Hey Flog...I told you the cure was worse than the virus. Now the WHO states it's already happening.

Caught some of the "released in" July 2019 action movie Hobbs and Shaw starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. In the movie, the 2 meatheads are trying to save the world from a novel, deadly virus. The virus is first hyped as the end of days plague that in short order destroys your internal organs, but then is "reprogrammed" by the elites for "Phase 1...to only attack the weakest among us and...remove all people who object to policies that combat the virus.."

At a point, Johnson phones home to his young daughter and says "stay home...stay in your house..it's the safest place for you.." While he's on the call, another CIA spook is monitoring the call and joins in while sitting in a deserted restaurant and remarks on how strange it feels with all the dining in options closed down.

Sounds to me like we're in "Phase 1" of Bill Gates's, Chicom's, and DNC's plan for world domination. Billy Goat came on CNN last week and said this will run through 2022 --- so there will be a "Phase 2" and a "Phase 3." In other words, like his Event 201 plandemic simulation model said it would.

Have said this over and over, but Satan is an imitator. The Lord God does nothing without first revealing his secrets to his servants the prophets, while Satan and his ilk do little to nothing without first revealing their secrets IE "Script-ures" in Hollywood film through predictive programming.

Saw that as well.

Thanks so ******* much, W.H.O. Might have been good for you to report this undeniable truth SEVEN MONTHS AGO.

OK, when Fauci said “We had a super spreader event at the White House”, that’s NOT something he told Trump to do.

Okay, so Trump is responsible for comments and 23 cases of Chinese flu - no fatalities - in October of 2020.

Got it.

We're close to the election now and the damage has been done....Nothing to see here, you all can go about your way now.

Oh, and about those masks ... 89% of those who get the Chinese flu report wearing masks "often" (14.5%) or "always" (74.2%).

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/pdfs/mm6936a5-H.pdf

Huh, look at that - wearing a mask will NOT ******* PROTECT YOU FROM GETTING THE ******* CHINESE FLU.

Seems some of us have been saying that for months. "Follow the science." Unless of course the science does not help stupid, nitwit, greedy little politicians get and keep more power and money.

Masks were just another way to slow the economy because there are a lot of folks who don't want to wear them and thus will not go out if they are mandated.

We all know this, including Dr Fraudchi, unless you wear an N95 mask, you might as well be wearing a sock over your face. Aerosols that the virus hitch a ride on are so small, they will travel in and out of a typical mask like **** through a goose. If that was not the case and cloth masks do the job, you'd see virologists wearing a cool Steelers mask when they are at work.

Today 3 schools in my immediate area, but 3 different school districts have shut down for a week due to COVID. We now have 2 sick residents in my nursing home for the first time. One is really sick and touch and go as to whether he will survive and the other one is mildly sick. A couple others have had minor symptoms. Seems like there is a hot pocket around this area at the moment.

Jitter can you explain to myself and those who avoid nursing homes like the plague the difference between the effects of COVID on your patients vs the standard run of the mill flu at your work? Is COVID an automatic death sentence?

Have you seen where there are there characteristics that cause it to be more deadly, like heart disease, diabetes, etc?

Does regular flu have flare ups throughout the year or does it come in and stay for a few months or is it pretty rare?

When there is an outbreak of regular flu (assuming there are outbreaks) does it usually mark the end for most residents or do most make it through?

Do most or all of your residents get the flu shot and year to year is it pretty effective?

What do you wear for PPE?

Appreciate the inside info as my 94 year old stepdad is in a nursing home/rehab center and we really worry about him. Sucks that we cannot visit but its probably for his own good but every time I talk to him it sounds like he is just ready to cash it in. He's tired of being lonely and sees no end in sight.

Thanks!

I really cant say because this is the first time anyone has really been sick with COVID, but I fear this may only be the beginning. Next 2 weeks will tell the tale. He is in rough shape though and would compare it to a severe flu w/ breathing troubles. In general we do not have a lot of cases of flu at my place. I would say less than 10/yr. I can not recall anyone dying or being deathly sick from the flu and would say pneumonia is more serious than the flu. We have had several people die from that in the 14 years I have been there. As for PPE it is standard precautions (yellow isolation gowns, gloves, surgical mask, and face shield if you choose). We do usually have an outbreak or 2 of norovirus / year which is highly contagious. With norovirus I would say at least 20 residents end up with it each time We have 4 wings and I think every time we had norovirus it made its way into each wing. Luckily it only last a couple days and is not too serious. We do shut down communal activities and dining at least for the effected halls in both cases of flu / norovirus.

As for the flu shots they are offered to all residents and believe almost everyone gets one along with staff. They do have a right to refuse though.

My home is a long term care place so a lot of people that come in are there have many issues. I still say cancers are the worst a lot of pain and long term suffering.

We have residents who are very happy, some who are very lonely and sad, some are just mean and miserable. Just have to do the best you can to keep them entertained.

Thanks Jitter. Is Norovirus spread more by surface contact than aerosols or both? Surprised they do not have you all wearing N95s. Surgical masks won't stop the little buggers.

For corona we have full gear. N95, plastic gowns, eye protection. We have to wear them at all times everywhere. We have been wearing full gear for months even without cases. Of course all it takes is a small slip-up for the outbreak to start. I imagine this will change the way we handle flu and what not as well....Norovirus is spread through coughing / sneezing / vomit / fecal matter etc etc....

That Norovirus is a mean *****....Thanks for doing what you do.

Can I ask, what is the medical intervention upon the results of a positive test? And what is the timing? I presume you test after symptoms are confirmed, or spot test?

You know what else is a mean *****.........the shingles vaccine.I got it last Thursday, and the pain is starting to subside today. ************.

I’ve never had the shingles vaccine, but I’ve had shingles. I think I’d take my chances with the vaccine.

No we were required to do mandatory testing by the end of June or July. If you go 2 weeks w/o any positives they consider you clear, you can move into the next phase, and then you test only if symptomatic. If positive then the whole process starts over. In our case our baseline returned a couple positives so we have been stuck in the weekly testing cycle because someone has always came back positive. We have made it like 11-12 days then back to square 1. We have been getting test results back in about 2 days. If staff tests positive then you have to be off for a min of 10 days if you dont have symptoms. If you have symptoms I am not 100% sure but i think its 14 days and a negative test. For residents we have a few rooms dedicated as "red" rooms we immediately move residents to. Until last week the most residents we had test positive at once was 2, but none had any symptoms. Last week we had 10 pop and 2 with mild/severe symptoms and 2 with minor things going on. We have had a few staff (around 5) with symptoms in the past. This time around we think a couple staff went on vacation together and brought it back with them.

Jitter, you mentioned that N95s were only required when working with COVID patients. Do all the staff have to at least wear surgical masks as soon as you walk in the facility? Surprised they don't make the N95s mandatory like they do in my wife's dental office. Regardless if they are working on a patient or not they have to wear them. Even front office staff. So far it has worked. My wife has been told that three of her patients tested positive but she has not been affected fortunately. If she does catch it, shes on the sidelines for at least 14 days after a negative test.

No we wear N95s + gowns + eye protection as soon as you enter. We are only supposed to take them off when eating. Even office people are supposed to keep them on. You have separate gear for the red area as well

Did she and her staff get medical evaluations to wear a respirator and also do the fit testing?

We did fit testings and had staff fill out a medical form. We have a few with medical clearances that don't have to wear them

Assuming you got Shingrix, as Zostavax is phasing out. Injection site pain and swelling are pretty common, but a small price to pay for protection. I made sure to tell that to anyone I gave it to.

You do realize another dose is given in about 3-6 months, don't you?

I'm at that age where shingles could be a problem and my doc wants me to get the new vaccine once was available. Guessing it is available now at their office but was not available last Spring when I had my physical.

Sarge what sort of hell did you go through when you got the shingles, I'll be honest I'm not up to speed with it. I remember hearing it is very painful and usually affects one side of the body or the other.

I got shingles 5-6 years ago and it manifests on one side of the body -- for me the neck and lower scalp area in that case. Maybe my case wasn't too severe, but to me if felt like a bee sting that would not go away. The welts felt about like a yellow jacket sting feels about 30 minutes after. I had stinging or itching as I recall for a few days before the welts broke out. I just assumed I had been bitten by something.
