You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Superman again.
There was a similar play in the Penn State game. Waiting for an unwarranted flag that thankfully never came. It was refreshing. College football is much more enjoyable to watch. Even though they eventually adopt most of the NFL rules, it seems like the refs at that level are more willing to let the players play at this point.
I'm part of the "target" group, and I am pissed off at what the game has become. I've been a fan since birth....almost 41 years. I grew up watching hard hits and all that. I feel like it's part of my blood. To see the game that I love(d) so much become a ***** league has soured me. I don't want to see all this fake pandering about breast cancer and bullshit like that. I want the old, smashmouth NFL back. I put games on now, but only as background noise while I clean or cook....or nap. Next week's game vs. Carolina is on at night....I will probably go to bed before it's over. That's not how I used to roll. I feel like a part of who I am has seriously changed/left, and it kinda hurts.
Excellent post. It seems that even the almighty NFL is guilty of the true American pasttime. Shortsightedness.I understand trying to reach a broader audience, but you can't just cater everything to attracting the casual fan. It's great at first but the longterm effect is that the kids who are just becoming fans will also end up being casual fans because that is how it's marketed to them.
More and more, you hear younger fans who are just fans of players and not teams. This is terrible for the game. There is no loyalty.
The NBA has gone down that path and the result is there's only a few teams that pull ratings. Lebron went from Miami to Cleveland, so now nobody will watch Miami anymore. The NBA takes ratings any way they can get it, but it's not good for their league overall.
Excellent post. It seems that even the almighty NFL is guilty of the true American pasttime. Gambling / Betting.
On the plus side, my indifference to the NFL is making my wife very happy. I should get more nookie as a result.
Exactly. World wide, soccer is the most popular sport with thrilling final scores such as, 1-0 or 2-1. You don't see the soccer organizers trying to change the rules to get big time scores. The game works for their audience and they don't **** with it too much. The Penn State game was an exciting, low scoring defensive game. I hate that the NFL equates high score with great game. It just doesn't work that way. The PSU Rutgers game was 13-10 and it was an edge of the seat game the whole time. There were great defensive plays that kept the score low. .
What I am seeing from the casual fans that I talk to is, they can't stand watching the game due to all the ******* flags being thrown on almost every play.Don't apologize. I didnt realize my disdain for this league was so widely shared. Imagine what a national survey might reveal

which suburb? I'm in the metroplex too.. Wouldn't mind watching with a fellow Steelers fan every once in a whileI am not part of the target group, I am the old school long time viewer. I used to drive to the steelers bar 90 miles away to watch the game with lots of other fans in a suburb of Dallas TX. Not really sure I will make the trip this year. My favorite sport has become rather ho hum thanks to the rules changed in favor of high numbers on the board. I began to loose some interest when the cheatriots were given a pass on cheating and every year a bit more of the game slides away.
There are harder hits on this message board than get put on guys in the game. I used to follow lots of sports but the games have changed a lot and no longer interest me. This sport seems to be going the way of the industry that used to populate the ohio and mon valleys.
Aggie, just goggle Austin Avenue II. It is right close to the area dividing Richardson and Plano. It is also the base of operations for the Southern Steel fan club. Last time I was there the place was full of folks wearing the black and gold. Lots of folks been going to the place for years, I have been going there for at least 4 and maybe 6 years.which suburb? Tonight was the finale of Masterchef- on at the same time as MNF. Used to be I'd DVR the other show and watch MNF. Tonight I watched MC...and didn't even change the channel to check the score of the MNF game. I have it on now but I am ready for bed- will put me to sleep pretty quick.
I read an article today that said Colin Kaepernick was flagged in last nights game for allegedly saying a slur towards the other team. Unsportsmanlike Conduct, I believe. He says he never said anything, and his teammates agree. The red who threw the flag wasn't sure of what was said, or who said it( if ANYTHING) but because he THOUGHT he heard something, he had to throw a flag. WTF is this league?? After reading that this afternoon, I am beyond flabbergasted. However, I am available to comforting Colin should he need it...
