DOJ: Trump Can Accept Foreign Payments For His Businesses
The Justice Department asked a court to dismiss the lawsuit brought by a watch dog group alleging that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution’s Emolument clause.
The filing from the federal government on Friday argued that neither the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW), nor the businesses that have joined the lawsuit, have the standing to bring the legal challenge, while asserting that the Emoluments clause does not apply to the sort of profits Trump is benefiting from through his businesses while in office.
“As explained below, the Emoluments Clauses apply only to the receipt of compensation for personal services and to the receipt of honors and gifts based on official position. They do not prohibit any company in which the President has any financial interest from doing business with any foreign, federal, or state instrumentality,” the court doc said.

EPA moves one step closer to upending Obama's climate legacy
The Trump administration moved one step closer Friday in the process to withdraw former President Barack Obama's Clean Power Plan climate regulations, according to the White House.
The Environmental Protection Agency sent its draft proposal for changing the climate plan to the White House, where it will begin the final interagency review process to scrap the regulations
The proposal went to the Office of Management and Budget a week after President Trump announced he would be withdrawing from the Paris climate change agreement. The Clean Power Plan represents the centerpiece of Obama's plan to meet its emission reduction commitments under the 2015 climate deal.
Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., the chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which oversees the EPA, praised the procedural step as the beginning of the end for the Obama-era climate regulations.
"The so-called Clean Power Plan regulation would have closed power plants and hurt Wyoming's energy workers," the environment chairman said. "I am glad the Environmental Protection Agency is beginning the process of removing this punishing regulation."
Barrasso said he will continue to work with the Trump administration to find "common-sense policies to keep America's air clean and economy growing."
