The Offseason is On now!

no one said he's not allowed to be frustrated, but no one else is half assing it on the field like he does, no one else is saying I didn't want to try because I didn't want to get hurt, no one else is blaming the snow.

And no else is making crazy highlights reel plays and providing any explosiveness to the offense.

Elite guys have always and will always get away with more

If you're afraid to get hurt then he's in the wrong line of work, when is the last time you heard a player openly say, I stopped because I didn't want to get hurt, I'm sure his teammates loved hearing that.
There's not many fans that want Wilson back.
His teammates did address it, and a few even understood where he was coming from. Especially since he tore his ACL in college. And a lot of players think the same way, it's why they want guaranteed money in their contracts.

As for Wilson, get on facebook...hell I had a discussion with a guy who thinks Wilson is better than Mahomes.

I don't remember any elite guys getting away with not trying on the field, quitting mid play, being late to games and meeting all season.
He averages 58 catches, 947 yards, 4 TD's per season, he's not considered elite.

In fairness, look at who his QB's have been and who he has had for coordinators. There aren't many WR's in the modern game that are going to be overly successful on this team in this offense. In fact, I'd say very few.

I definitely don't disagree with that, I'm firmly in the camp that the QB makes the WR, not the other way around, but having said all of that, show me WR's on other ****** teams that are doing the things he's doing.
3 of the top 5 players in terms of catches play for the Giants, Cardinals, Raiders, none of them were playoff teams.

Do you watch all of their games like you do for the Steelers? I remember Randy Moss having a reputation for taking plays off. I know it might seem like a ridiculous statement, and we may laugh and scoff at the idea, but what if there's truth to the Chad Johnson story? I've seen his podcast, I've seen him working with today's WR's, it's not out of the realm of possibilities that he did have a heart to heart with Pickens.

I do know that no one has ever commented about his work ethic during practice, and he has plenty of teammates coming to his defense, so clearly it's not like he's disliked in the locker room.

I don't watch all the games, but I don't see any of those WR's being brought up on ESPN, called out by Shannon Sharpe, etc.

Maybe he did have a heart to heart, and if Ben were here, I'd be all for signing him, but we're going to give him 30 million and not use him, and not have anyone that can get him the ball, I don't want to give big money to any WR, not just Pickens until we have a legit QB, and even then is Tomlin going to allow him to actually throw the ball downfield.

What do you think we are gonna do:

Cordarelle Patterson (2,700,000) maybe restructure to vet min
(A couple extra million could be freed cutting seveal of these guys post June 1st and splitting half their dead money into next season)

Free agents:
Quarterback
Russell Wilson 36 gone
Justin Fields 26 re sign 3 years 50 million
Kyle Allen 28 re sign 1 yr

He averages 58 catches, 947 yards, 4 TD's per season, he's not considered elite.

Look around the league
Happens EVERY Sunday
Especially with WRs today

And those are elite numbers if ya consider the bafoonery that is the Tomlin “offense”

Averaging 1000 per under Tomlin’s shackles and the QBs of last year and this is downright amazing. Simply don’t get many opportunities in the run/run/pass/punt game plan.

On a team with a QB and legit passing attack he’s absolutely lethal

Justin Fields will be the best QB on the roster come game day 1. He can throw down field, but JUST AS YOU say, Coach Tomlin can and will stand in the way.

I don’t want to bring in some ancient old QB who might be able to counter Coach Tomlin, not the future like a younger up and coming with ceiling potential. Fields just happens to be what I think the Steelers feel is the best option.

Fields is for sure untapped potential still. IF he resigns with us, and I really hope he does, it'll be the first time in his career that he's had the same offensive coordinator in back to back years. His longest pass of the year was in line with Wilsons longest pass of the year. And he had at least 2 if not a couple more long passes to Pickens called back due to penalties.

This is one I love to reference. This video is about Pickens, but at 4:37 you see a ridiculous pass from Fields wiped out by a ticky tack holding call on Jones. But it also highlights the biggest difference between Fields and Wilson, Fields still has escape ability. Pickens makes a great cut on a scramble drill here as well, just an FYI

I remember that play very well. All for it. Fields has shown improvement during his short part of the season last. I hope he himself takes it upon himself to shack up with a QB guru coach all off season. That could do wonders for him.

53 Million in Cap room now. with a ton of moves that can be made. Steelers could have a good off-season. please do not mortgage the future!!

Well, that’s nice amount of cap space with more to be gained.
I’d explore some trades that’s for damn sure. I’d start with seeing if there’s a market for the much over payed Minkah. Not worth anywhere near what they’re paying him.
Now we will see just how good a GM Omar really is. Personally I’d rather see Andy Weidel be the GM and kick Omar back to what he does best, handling the cap.

I think we are on the hook for about 14M between prorated and signing bonuses. I also think he will play his *** off to try to get a new contract given he is 28 and has 2 years left. I'd keep him and trade him mid-season or before next.

Just a thought on Pickens - does anyone really think the diva will show up or will he hold out. I definitely think he holds out for a new contract. If they do get through this season and decide to tag him, he will definitely hold out then. You either think he is so good that they can deal with his nonsense and sign him to a huge contract or you trade him for maybe a 3rd round pick if you are lucky.
Well if they truly want him....they usually sign him now to an extension.

I thought watching that lard *** Patterson run back kicks was the most entertaining aspect. Like it epitomized everything. Like if you can't see the other teams are purposely forcing him to return the ball.......what more needs to be said.
I personally loved seeing him getting carries late in games when the game was on the line......

I think the main difference is the other teams at least try to throw the ball more than 2 yrds. We are just so conservative guys barely have chances to make plays.

That's a huge part of it. Why pay Ferrari money for a car if you're going to drive it like a Prius.

DK Daily Shot said 55.7 mil, 9th most available in the NFL.

Close enough for me, but where to spend it and on who……………???

Fields is my 1st priority at somewhere between 11-18 mil. / 4yr end 2 cap friendly. I’d bet you get him closer to 12-13mil.

If I'm Fields, and they put a 4 year deal averaging 13m, I turn it down. I might sign a two year deal with that average, but I'm betting on myself. Minshew signed for 12.5 per, Darnold was one year 10m, I'm thinking more in the Geno Smith range, 3-4 year 20-25m per. He's currently the cheapest non rookie contract starter in the league right now.

They can save roughly another 15m in extending Watt, and another 16ish by cutting Patterson, Holcomb, and Larry O. They could be BIG spenders in FA.

Other than our own guys, these are guys I look at throwing some money at:

Milton Williams DL Eagles
Osa Odighizuwa DL Cowboys
Tershawn Wharton DL Chiefs
Paulson Adebo CB Saints
Charvarius Ward CB 49ers
Byron Murphy CB Vikings

It's slim pickings for WR, TE, RB...So I look to the draft for those positions.

We really don't have a lot of cap space when you look at who still needs to get paid. Watt - new contract; GP - new contract; QB - new contract and eventually paying some QB $40 million+, etc.

Extending Watt will lower his 30m cap hit. I don't think they plan on extending GP (as much as I hate it), and there isn't a QB out there for US worth $40m. With 55m right now, extending Watt, and cutting the above mentioned players, that brings it to around 85m. That's plenty. And we are finally free of the dead cap from years and years and years of bad restructuring.
