My key point here is whenever somebody who's a bit younger starts touting the important values of socialism in American society and how it can help us, I immediately point out that the single greatest instance of socialism we have in American culture is social security which we all know is absolutely failing. Yet somehow they feel like if we do MORE socialism somehow it will work out. And then I bring them back to social security and ask them how is it that you think the rest of socialism is going to work when this shining example of socialism is proving to be a complete and utter failure?

I'm 62, when I was a kid people who were 62 were old. I'm still going at it in the gym thanks to modern medical technology. If not for that I'd be a bent-over old man walking with a cane too. Surgery on both shoulders, both elbows, both thumbs, and new knees coming up. When my mother's father was 62 he'd already retired early from the steel mill because he had his right lower leg amputated due to bad circulation and diabetes. I'm off work today to take Mrs. Burgundy for surgery on her foot later. As long as they can keep patching us up we'll keep going.

Have a funeral for my second-cousin on Wednesday. Only 66 but he'd had a number of health problems in recent years. I last saw him about four years ago and he looked like he was 80.

Not really. When appropriate I will introduce myself as a fellow funeral director but otherwise I let them do their thing and don't worry about it.
If I'm a pallbearer at another funeral home I just go along and don't tell anyone else what to do.
Bud of mine is the general manager at the place where my cousin is, he used to work for the company I'm with. It's a large combination funeral home and cemetery and where most of my dad's family gets buried.
