The Steelers Are Legit Super Bowl Contenders

Not going to get into very specific details here, but I will say that the new president of the university, Neeli Bendapudi, is much more football-friendly than her predecessor, whom she replaced in 2022. Penn State's new athletic director, Pat Kraft, also came on board in 2022. He is an excellent AD with a modern approach to department spending, recruiting, the importance of NIL in today's current landscape, and most other areas of his job. These two important people work very well together, and they are a positive influence on the football program. I feel that Franklin was handicapped for years by an out-of-touch administration who were living in the past. He will continue to benefit from and build upon the newfound support, and I believe that his record against the best opponents will likely improve drastically moving forward.

You're welcome.
can i still not like Franklin?

Tomlin had massive influence in acquiring Wilson and Rodgers.

As has been said already he interviewed Kahn. He claims firing Canada and inserting Wilson over Fields mid season was 100% his decision.

He’s the biggest and most influential figure in any football decision, including personnel, and owns the putrid playoff results

Tomlin is in charge of in season decisions and I'm sure has some input in draft and free agency, but there's been a clear change in philosophy under Kahn. Or do you think Tomlin just got much smarter in player evaluations the last 2 years?

His gut will still make stupid gameday decisions, he'll still use the replay board to decide to throw the red flag, and they'll probably fly overseas just a few days in advance like a normal road trip then get beaten by jetlag.

All of that will happen and the roster improvement is still real and the biggest factor for the future.

out of curiosity, if you don't see the ravens as contenders, who do you see as a contenders? Just Eagles and Chiefs?

I consider Chiefs, Bills and Bengals contenders for the SB in the AFC

The only reason I don’t consider the Rats one is Lamar.
IMO he is Dak, a regular season QB that won’t ever get a ring…**** I doubt he even gets to a SB.

Could be I’m anti Rats biased but just don’t buy them.
The Steelers suck vs good teams and have owned the Rats…so obviously the Rats aren’t good by my biased anti Rats Lamar sucks crooked logic.

I think the NFC is a bit more wide open with the Eagles, Lions, Commanders as legit contenders.
GB and the Rams could be fringe contenders imo.
Hard to put Min in the mix with JJ taking over.

Until Lamar goes on a legit run I’m just not a believer. Take out the layup vs the chumps he played last year and he’s 2-5 in the playoffs never having won consecutive playoff games. To me he’s just not the guy that’s gonna take the Rats anywhere…and that’s just fine by me.

What if Aaaa-Ron wins a WC game, then gets blown out in the divisional round due to poor coaching and game planing………..?

Then he decides he wants to come back another season to right the ship………… do you sign him ???

Yes. Then i draft a QB first round

You can not like whomever you choose, homie.

Like Franklin said, all he and Penn State need to do to change the narrative and shut people up is to start winning those games.

Some fans twist themselves in knots to avoid giving props to the competition. They also have short term memory loss when it comes to what happened a few months ago. Baltimore is good enough to beat any team in the league and they were close against an excellent Buffalo team but couldn't hold on to the ball.

Jackson has proven himself but some people just can't admit he is a top QB because he plays for rival. Ravens will be a problem again this year. They're stacked and experienced.

I’ll give you Zach Frazier and Deshon Elliott were good additions with exciting futures, but neither of them made the oline or secondary respectively even average for an NFL playoff team so their impact was limited in most important times: against playoff caliber teams

There were also failures in adding players: take Wilson, Queen, Patterson, and Fields

Most of the draft picks in the past 2 years obviously have the jury out on them

Not sure where you get smarter decisions from.

Then of course its a real possibility Rodgers, Metcalf, and/or Ramsey blow up in Tomlins face if there is adversity this year or if they’re unhappy with their role-because they all have a history of it. Then there’s Tomlins history of having veteran players become “hostages, not volunteers”

It’s pretty common knowledge Tomlin pretty much overruled every one else in letting Fields walk, then personally pursued Rodgers for months. Khan might have ideas but Tomlin has proven to the final say and drives the bus on personnel too

You give a very possible scenario

1) you wait around while he hems and haws about whether to hang them up after dealing with the pathetic game plan given to him or just retire
2) the draft comes without a definitive decision, just hints of maybe one more year as he mull it over
3) draft a QB early
4) Mike goes in a begging mission fearing the rookie could jeopardize the Tomlinship
5) A Aron finally makes a decision a couple weeks before camp…hard to say where that decision lands, likely related to the absurdity of the gameplan that cost him a run at something worth winning

My guess is this year is it no matter if they miss playoffs, get blown out by halftime of the WC (the standard), break the drought or even win the SB

All scenarios point to his last year, but maybe that really strange thing happens…the unbelievable happens and Mike has learned something and changes. As a result the Steelers get to the AFCCG and lose a nail biter. Mike and Aaron work great together and the fountain of youth was found. Being so close to a legitimate goal all parties wanna run it back. A true long shot but probably the only scenario where we see another year (or something very similar)

Maybe Ayahuasca A-Ron is experienced enough to have already had conversations about the Steelers falling off the cliff last season, the arc of this new season, and his expectations for late season/playoffs.

I cannot imagine that he is back, with a paycut, and expecting to leave it all on the field in pursuit of success.

In this scenario Drink it would lead to a new 5 year contract extension for our beloved HC.

Yahoo has us at 20, ESPN has us at 19, USA Today has us at 10, Bleacher Report has us at 13.

You and I, with many others know that power rankings don’t mean ****.

Although we all like seeing our beloved Steelers at or near the top of said worthless rankings.

Agreed which is why I posted a few, to show the wide range of guesses, Rodgers said he thinks we're in the 10-12 range.

I think the Steelers have an above average roster with a bunch of very talented individual parts. What we haven't seen from the coaching staff in recent years is getting all those individual pieces to consistently play well as a unit.

Heck yeah. 2 years 150 million with 149 million guaranteed.. I kept pretty quite on AR signing but actually I'm pretty excited about having him here. he may just be the guy to to actually make Tomlin change his attitude about the way he does things.

I love Ben and he is my all time favorite player, I wish he would have stayed one or two more years BUT he did not have the same attitude that Rodgers does, AR will do what he wants to0 and Tomlin will never pull him. I actually can't believe Tomlin wanted him AR is they guy to make EVERYONE see what a fraud Tomlin is..

I’d say 6th overall means you’re a legit contender.

Looks like the stains and bungles were just forgotten......lol
I can't believe the Steelers rank ahead of the Lions; after the top 4, there seems like a reasonable group of 10 or so teams in the mix, but I'd have to put the Lions near the top of that group.

can i still not like Franklin?
You can like him but don't you dare question him and his record! :ROFLMAO:

As others have mentioned, Penn State football has been a frigg'n mess since the Sandusky ****. I personally know a few prominent people who have been involved in that re-building effort and there have been a lot hurdles, politics, and influence at play. I'm sure it's affected Franklin and his ability to recruit and retain some players but there is something in his coaching style or culture that makes his teams choke harder than Supe eating Soup. He's friends with Cael, perhaps something is beginning to rub off on Franklin...I hope so. WE ARE!!

I didn’t even see Cleveland on that list…………………

Maybe the rankings originator hasn’t heard yet, they drafted the Sanders kid……………………

I’d say Ralph Vachiano is smokin’ some crack

6th overall…lmfao
Yeah they’re ahead of the Commandes and Lions

Ralph been hangin in Richard’s closet, lotta teams in really weird spots on that list

The last Vegas win totals I saw had 15 teams with a higher number than the Steelers 8.5 and 4 even with them which would put them in the 16-20 range which seems to make way more sense than 6th.
