Cheaper QB3 than Mason.
Again perhaps they didn't want to compete for a free agent QB?
He helps the Steelers in camp. He is who they wanted to help. Obviously they see something they like about him. Otherwise they wouldn't have drafted him.

I think there were just better options that might have helped the team be better. Such as Walker from Penn State. The few draft reports I read had him going in the 3rd round. For some reason, he fell. Of course there could have been a red flag of some sort. Possibly getting a starting tackle or backup that will dress weekly vs a QB that probably won't make the team and if he does it will be the PS is the question.

That's how this club does business they scout who they like before the draft and who they want at the end of it. I don't always care for the approach but it is what it is. Perhaps it will change when Colbert flies the coop.

It isn't like undrafteds historically haven't made the roster. Which is one of the reasons I don't sweat the late picks. This club is set in their ways. They will take value at need from 1 -5. Then who they target before the draft "usually" takes over.

My thought was that none of us KNOW that such and such player won't make the team or will be on the practice squad. We have a guess that it's possible with some players. But absolutely KNOW? Nah. The kid may come in and impress with his work ethic and skillset (even if raw).
I'm not counting any of them out.
Hell, I didn't like the Pickett pick. Bitched a little and moved on to hoping it works out. Because, like it or not, he's "ours" now. And I hope he becomes the best QB for the Steelers that he can possibly become.
If Carson strong was available why not him as a extra arm stuber or walker are the big run mauling ol that would of pushed chukes and in sure run downs like inside the 5 you could of subbed chukes out like when banner came back saw a lot of that In the chargers game
Exactly. Players make teams that nobody expected every year. They didn't pick the guy blindly they targeted him predraft as a QB that captured their interest.
They went sort of O heavy and I would have preferred a Dline Oline heavy draft.
But as you said we now wish them well and hope for the best.

I simply think there is more upside to Walker for our team than there is the QB they took. That is all. I am not saying I am right. This is a message board. Relax a bit. People are throwing out their opinions right after a pick that some deem bad to horrible. Again. Just my OPINION.

Yep. And also teams are wrong probably just as much as fans year in and year out. As a fan though we don't invest the $$$$$ that the teams do. So dollar for dollar I think we as fans come out ahead.
I'm plenty relaxed. So relaxed that I'm not going to ***** about 7th round players and act like I know they would have been available as UDFA and CHOSE to sign with the Steelers.
Welcome to the draft every year right? Usually a pick or two where I think player B had more upside than player A.
I can't think of a draft where I liked every pick, but I usually understand why they drafted who they did.

They said prior to the draft they wanted to go into training camp with 4 QBs. Haskins passed so they were left with three after Kenny was picked. They simply picked the UDFA they wanted over the others to complete that 4th desire

I am relaxed too and realize you aren't as smart as you think you are. Plenty of your posts have shown this to be true. I am relaxing as I think about it with one leg on the sofa. I just love this relaxing sh!t.

And as a few have stated if all they wanted him for was an arm it was a bad pick. There would be 100's of ARMS available after the draft. Walker had more upside as a possible backup or eventual starter than a QB that at best be stashed on the PS. Believe it or not. The team can make a bad pick every year or so.
They have bad picks every year. And it still might be one of them. Doesn't change their approach. Didn't this year, last year, the year before that.
Not like I didn't list Walker in another thread I did as a list of availables. I just know this team is set in their ways for better or worse. That is why I understand the pick, as I knew what they wanted and knew they were going to attack it like they wanted to fulfill that want.
They have a blueprint they follow. Which is one reason I said before the draft it would be good in some ways for Colbert to retire. To see a fresh approach.
