The "Way too early" Playoff picture

damn I'm just hoping we beat the Jets Sunday night. thinking about the playoffs gives me a headache.

We'd probably go to KC right now and get steamrolled. Too many injured on the Steelers right now to contemplate playoff victories.

I'm hopeful they'll have their **** together by the time KC comes to town on Christmas. **** who made this schedule?

They can't lose on Christmas at home. That would be a suck *** memory.

Like I said, sad that you can't start a thread because there are always a handful of clowns with one hand down their pants and nothing to do but crap on it. Enjoy ignore. You earned it.
you can start a thread, but man put some thought in it beforehand please. a personal request,
1. No Tomblin suz threads
2. No AB threads
3. No teams that are crossed out but not eliminated, just crossed off a list threads.

You just got crossed off his Xmas card list.

a shirtless wrestler is standing in front of a crowd in a ring .

Browns and Patriots done already is highly satisfying. Love this thread.
Tuna fish, chopped egg, spritz of olive oil, dash of black pepper, teaspoon of Duke's mayo and a squirt of Heinz yellow mustard. Mix it all up and put it between 2 slices of multigrain bread---oh, one slice of gouda.

Lunch was yummy!!!

So here is our current playoff picture if we didnt win the division...

First off, there are 4 division leaders. Baltimore is the most vulnerable... but that is to us... and we are assuming we are looking at wild card scenarios here, so here tgey win the division
Buffalo has Miami 1.5 games back, but already beat miami at miami.. so its probable they win the division..
Houston and KC are running away with their divisions... so lets take those 4 off the table
That leaves 3 playoff spots

Lets also remove the 3 1-5 teams Cleveland, NE, and Jacksonville... they would have to go 8-3 just to get to 9-8 then hope both indy and denver go 5-6 or worse and nobody in between them went 7-4 or better... for any of them to knock us out we would need to lose so much its not worth worrying about...
lets lump the titans in that mess because they are 1-4 but play at Buffalo and Detroit the next two weeks

The current 3 teams in the WC are
The steelers at 4-2
The Chargers at 3-2 ( we have the tiebreaker)
The Colts at 3-3 ( we lose the tiebreaker)

The next two out are
Denver at 3-3 ( we have the tiebreaker)
And Miami at 2-3

At 2-4 we have Vegas, Cinci, and the Jets. Cinci remains the biggest threat to us in this group, but we will sort that out when playing them later in the season.
With the head to head win, we hold a virtual 3 game lead on Vegas. So if we go 5-6 from here out, Vegas has to go 8-3 to knock us out.. not a likely scenario
That leaves the Jets.. ..

If we beat the Jets on Sunday.. it most importantly knocks them to 2-5 and we have the tiebreaker.. this pretty much eliminates them from our playoff picture.
It also is big if we end up tied with Miami by some chance... Miami's common opponents with us are:
The colts, whom they face this week
The Browns
Las Vegas, whom we already beat
And the Jets twice..

which is why beating the Jets gives us a big leg up on miami if they were to make a run when they get tua back...

A win this week makes our playoff competition dwindle significantly

Especially if Miami falls to Indy.. in which case we would just have to beat the Browns twice or have the dolphins lose to either the jets either time, vegas, or the browns to more or less tank most tiebreakers with us..

You would be looking at us with a one game lead on the wildcard field and Tiebreakers over all but 1 of the legit threats, (plus the darkhorse threat of Cinci, who is two games back before the upcoming game at Cleveland)

ok I will take your advice and celebrate. 5 teams are not mathematically eliminated in the AFC but are behind the Steelers. **** yeah!!! Shots are in order!
who would have thought on 10/14 in the year of our lord 2024, that things would look so amazingly positive!

Excellent way to see things / the world.!!!

Salute the nation

Great contribution to a fun and stellar thread. Thanks for ignoring all the internet trolls. Will we win next week? Tomlin has laid an egg in a big game at home so much that you don't count on it but hope for it.

Nothing to think about really. We show up, get outcoached and give up 40+. The only real question is do we miss the playoffs all together or just get slobberknockered once we make them. Let the horrid coaching continue. Yeah!

It's not too early. I think 6 out of the top 7 teams in AFC are playoff locks.

Looks like Flacco may continue to start in Indy. Jets or Phins could sneak in but I doubt it. Rodgers doesn't seem to be a leader. Tua may or may not be right. The rest of the teams can't compete.

Injury to a starting QB is only thing that changes any of this

Many years...( id have to check but i feel like it is most) a team that starts 5-2 will miss the playoffs.
There always is a second half riser who starts playing better when injuries clear up or a new player adjusts to the system and teams collapse for a myriad of reasons... schedule difficulty, injuries, or teams just figure out a weakness

Id feel comfortable betting that one of the top 7 teams right now in the afc will be missing the playoffs entirely.

Im worried about Miami, the Jets, and the Bengals all as teams that could go on a run
As well as denver, who is extremely good on D and still clearly in the playoff race...

The Browns, Pats, jags, and Titans are out of tge playoff picture, but could become late season spoilers if certain factors play out...
Teams like that who are going to start offloading expensive, known talent occasionally find younger options that perform better than vets.. which leads to extremely improved second halves.

Teams have high probabilities of making the playoffs right now, but its like the win probability stat.. its not really telling for a few more weeks

Bills improved and Jets picked up Rodgers favorite receiver. I have 0 faith in Rodgers, he reminds me of Ben in that he has all the football skill in the world but is intellectually and emotionally disabled.

I'll be surprised if Jets make playoffs
